  You opened a can of worms!

  And security Suites(Norton, Trend, McAfee) are just Bloatware.
  They try to be everything to everyone and fail.
  They also use a lot of your system resources to run.

  I do not use one of them; AVG or MSE.
  There are bad reports about the compatibility of the 9.0 AVG and MSE is a new kid on the block.
  I'll wait and see how MSE pans.

  To return to the home screen, you must slide up from the bottom of the screen. You need to make the same gesture, using your mouse when you use the Simulator. Drag the mouse with the lower edge of the screen to the top.

  Microsoft Security Essentials NOT came with the firewall, you can use the Windows Firewall in your firewall. You must use the Windows Firewall.

It's 2012, and it's terribly disappointing that Microsoft only has not ironed out all the imperfections in these services now.   Sometimes the icon simply does not appear due to a start along with many other process resources and the part of MSE to load the icon to not load damage. If you can open MSE and it signals that all is good, it's probably what happened. Sometimes rebooting resolves it.

  If you do not use a login ID and password for Windows, this can happen more frequently, especially on an old PC, but even a new. Windows Journal and journal of back and sometimes the icon will appear for you.
