notification area icons change to "Show icon and notification. »

For some reason, the "Windows Task Manager" notification icon continues to change its behavior.  I had put the behavior "Show icon and notification" to the Manager of the tasks, but when I right click on the taskbar and select "Start Task Manager", I get the up arrow icon icon rather than the Task Manager.  I go to the arrow and click on customize and change the behavior to return to "Show icon and notification.

Is there a reason why it keeps changing to "display only notifications?

Hi Artoo,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand from the description of the issue, your computer task manager notification icon continues to change.

I appreciate if you could answer a few questions:

1. What is the brand and model of your computer?

2 have the Windows Task Manager before notification work?

3. the question has started recently?

The task manager has two different views. For the display that includes menus and tabs, double-click the border of the Task Manager window. To return to the view without menus and tabs, double-click anywhere in the border around the tabs.

I suggest you follow this Microsoft article below which will help you to solve the problems of Task Manager, under article is also applicable to Windows 7:

You can also see this Microsoft article for more information:

    2 ways to recover...

1 do a system restore. Use a date where the icons were present on the notification as your restore point area.
Start button > Search box, type system restore > press the Enter key > uac prompt > click on choose a different restore point > next > select dates as your restore point, until the click > next > finish
To sit and wait. The machine restarts when it's done.

    Hello

If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.

    There is nothing to worry.

Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.

If you are using one of the above AntiVirus programs, this Information from David O - Support Engineer shows you how to manually enable Windows Defender (disregard information from uninstalling; not possible in Vista):

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_vista-security/how-do-i-manually-start-Windows-Defender-in-Vista/dab845b2-9ba5-47F3-9518-c4c6781e7d5b

"Go to start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Look for Windows Defender.

Right click and select Properties , ensure that Startup Type is automatic.

Once modified, click apply and OK.

Quit and restart your computer. Check the back take the same path to confirm that Windows Defender has started"

    .

If you want to have additional protection against malware using the version FREE of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:

  • The wireless in a yellow dot greyer notification area icon bars well im connected to the internet.

I used to have adapater Netgear WNDA3100 v1, when I am connected to internet icon wireless in the notification area showed me the signal strength, I recently updated the netgear to the v2 WNDA3100 adapter. the icon now displays the shaded bars and a yellow asterisk as a dowry, I hear this means that im not connected but there's available networks. Also when I start my pc I have to manually connect even though I checked the auto connect box. It is really annoying because I know when im connected or how strong my signal is also to connect manually. I tried a handful of things, talk too much.

I have a desktop with Win 7 Ult 64 Bit. I have not changed my router information, and all drivers have been updated including adapter with Win 7 driver.

I have the software that comes with netgear but I utility windows in network load, the netgear software starts to the top that has never done before, but his red, which means that its scanning and will stay like that until I connect manually.

I guess that's the Netgear software as well. Try to recreate the same problem in Mode safe mode with networking:

Method 1: Put the computer in safe mode with network and see if the problem persists:

If the problem is not repeated in safe mode, there is probably a startup item or service is causing the problem. Follow the steps on the following link to locate the item or service responsible for the error:

  • How to change the space between folder icon and the text on the personal toolbar?

I have some files in the personal toolbar with just a letter to indicate what they are, but on the theme that I use, the letter is too far from the record, it belongs to and partially falls under following folder icon. I don't want to increase the space between all the icons to show the full letter, as this decreases the amount of icons that you can have in the toolbar. Instead, I want to reduce the space between the file and the text belonging to him, so he is right next to him instead of 5 pixels away.

I found various entries to change the padding and margins in userChrome.css, but it's always around the icon, I don't know where to look to close the space between the icon and the corresponding text.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Did you check the value of the left margin of the text?

You can set if necessary negative margin values.

    #PlacesToolbarItems .toolbarbutton-text { margin-left: -2px !important; }

Add .bookmark-item [container] If this enough for the items in the folder

    #PlacesToolbarItems .bookmark-item[container] .toolbarbutton-text { margin-left: -2px !important; }
  • On 3 levels notification area icons, not one

Suddenly, the notification area icons have been changed a line at the bottom of the screen to 3 levels, thus shortening the screen. I tried dragging them to the original format using the arrow cursor/up-and-to the bottom, but nothing would move.  I have windows XP sp3

The task bar are now resized.  In addition to on three levels notification area icons, I noticed later sections of divider taskbar [thin line of vertical points between the 'missions'] were on 2 levels, instead of one.
I was able to drag the low divider to the same level as that of top, [including the task].

Then and only then, [for a reason any] did the arrow cursor/double head decide to work on the upper part of the task bar and I was able to resize.  However, I have left clicked on the mouse to drag, not right click.  Previously, I had clicked left and right click, but nothing has worked.  Now, I've locked the taskbar, so that I won't in the future.
    Your help is appreciated.

Have you done any software or changes to the material on the computer before this problem?

Method 1: First of all, I suggest you perform a virus scan on your computer online by visiting the following link:
    Microsoft Safety Scanner
    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Method 2: Run the following Fix - it and check.
Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

If the problem persists, then follow hide icon to rebuild the steps mentioned - below

    b. now, click on Folder Options to open and select (dot) show hidden files and folders.
    c. open a Windows Explorer window.
    d. go on C:\Users\(User Name) \AppData\Local
    e. right click on IconCache.db , and click Remove.
    f. click Yes to confirm the deletion.
NOTE: This removes the file to the trash. It is safe to empty the trash when you are done.
    g. close the window.
    h. emptying the trash.
    i. restart the computer.
    j. When you come back, you will notice the size of the file IconCache.db is reduced, and the update is now the current date.
NOTE: If for some reason any IconCache.db isn't there or the size has not much changed then you can just restart the computer again. You may need to restart a few times in some cases.
    k. icon cache will be rebuilt.

Method 3: If the methods above do not help, you can check if the link helps you solve the problem.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950505

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
