NTVDM. EXE error because Windows Update yesterday

Since the last version of Windows XP update yesterday, two of my eight computers will not open my program back. I get a message: NTVDM. EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close. AppName ntvdm.exe. AppVer 5.1.2600.5512. ModName kernel32.dll. 5.1.2600.5781 ModVer; Offset 00012afb. This problem is not consistent on all my computers, but is still a big problem for me. Love some tips.

I want to thank all of you for your time and your thoughts. This is what took place:

(1) before I dive deeply on the question, I did an image of the hard drive in question. I took the original disc, step by step repair of Windows, and on the last restart, the system could not load anything on the desktop, or pull up the Windows Activation Wizard. I then proceeded in the service of Microsoft's response and intensified in grade over several sessions and many hours. This path has never produced fruit.

(2) I took the other disk "image" and had two technicians to address them without success. I also did all of your suggestions.

(3) Finally, I made a new image a month ago since my last Backup Exec from Symantec. I did a scan of the CFS and installed 17 updates one at a time. The KB2707511 was again the culprit, and it is removed and hidden. I found it interesting that KB2707511 was not part of my series of update of original disc, but it appeared on this reconstruction of the hard drive.

Lessons learned:
(1) never delete restore points.
(2) not to do a Windows repair without corresponding to the level of the disc at the level of the windows installed - ala remove Service Pack 3
(3) Although the software is a pain, stand the Symantec Backup Exec.
(4) you tech guys are very generous and a great help.

Thanks again,
gfgman

Also nothing. Along with a check disk hard I did not find much either. What end of the lifecycle for this computer, now about 3 years? He was one of the first available vista computers. • error 8007005, windows update does not (yesterday administration permission to delete Pending.xml was resolve))

    Try this first.

Ensure that the pending operations are completed

Try a reboot. Before restarting the service (installer of Modules of Windows DisplayName) trustedInstaller to automatic started. Normally it is manual, except if an operation such as windows update requires an installation of starting time.

Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - right on command prompt and choose run as administrator. Type (or copy the below line and a line empty below and right click in the command prompt window and choose Paste).

trustedinstaller sc config = auto start

    Then restart

Then remove the type in a command prompt as above

    del c:\windows\WinSxS\pending.xml

or Start - All Programs - Accessories - right click, run as administrator - Windows Explorer.

It's my full post on WinSxS

    WinSxS folder

The WinSxs is the central repository of records for Windows. All installed files are placed in the WinSxS folder, including updated files up-to-date. So, you will have a lot of different versions of each file, allowing you to roll back service packs and Windows updates to a previous state.

The current version of a file is hardlinked to the appropriate place in the rest of the file system. A hard link is a file name. All files have at least one hard link. Windows system files (usually) have two links in hard, one in WinSxS and one in c:\windows\system32. The two names pointing to the same bytes on the disk.

As the files have two names, they are counted twice by Solution Explorer, once once of WinSxS and System32.

There are other uses for it as well. It allows several programs to use different versions of DLLs.

    The system update tool

Ensures the consistency of the folder WinSxS (Side by Side).

    For 32-bit Windows

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=504

    For 64-bit Windows

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=1540

To see the results click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - right click on command prompt and choose run as administrator. Type (or copy the below line and a line empty below and right click in the command prompt window and choose Paste).

    Notepad %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

Then delete this folder to recover the 100 MB.

    del /s "C:\Windows\CheckSur".

    Start the scavenger

Add or remove a feature from Windows Control Panel - programs and features launches cleanup on Vista.

The sizes are not what they seem

Generally, WinSxS files are hardlinked. A hard link is a file name. Each file has at least one hard link. Files in WinSxS and system32 usually are hard links to the same file. Therefore, you count twice the same file in system32 and WinSxS.

Spending a day to try various fixes posted on the internet. A Microsoft Fixit said that he there had errors in the update and fixed all but one saying registration number was bad (said he couldn't fix that). Despite everything, still the same problem.

On the same day, an error was unable to update the definitions of virus on MSE, but for some reason, the next day (14) updated crossed.

Update: some progress: I leave svchost cogitate on the webpage update from Ms. After about 1/2 hour, the updated hotfix list showed. I tried to install it, but not updates managed to install. I am currently re - try, as suggested on the Web page.

Also tried the command "net stop" method mentioned in several places, as a tool of Malewarebytes Anti-Root running. Nothing.

Tried the fix for IE8 security as suggested, nothing.

Tried system restore, but I must have something wrongly configured with it because it was not able to restore any earlier date, I took. Bad luck.

Never had a big problem with my set-up in all the years I've been running XP sp3, until now.

Next thing I'll try is Park on the side of Windows Update for an hour or two, with the idea that maybe my processor is in need of more time to digest something.

I see that others have had this problem, but not necessarily with patch release on November 12.

UPDATE: some progress, perhaps. 1/2 hour parked page update of Windows, with SVChost churning away, and I got a list of patches. I tried to install, but all of them failed to install. I try a re - install, as suggested.

Let me propose a summary of how to fix the MSE / Windows Update problem and the svchost problem:

1st thing to do is to disable the automatic updates window. This will keep your computer against svchost.exe freeze for now.

2nd, follow the instructions in Xircal to check that you have "BITS" listed in your list of "services". Correct it if not.

3rd, IE remove it from your list of programs, and then reinstall it, making your first update of the IE rollup, as suggested previously.

That he "should" do and you can activate the automatic updates on svchost.exe should return to normal. Proceed with the update of Windows and MSE as usual.
