• OBIEE Upgrade question

  Hello:
  We are having OBIEE 10.1.3.2 version now and we intend to update.
  
  We are currently it works on 32 Gig RAM Windows 2003 server.
  
  However, the main reason to upgrade is that sometimes BI Server process reached around 1.8 - 2.0 concerts and it just crashes. So it does not use all 32 gig.
  
  My question is, have we not the versions that use more than 2 GB of memory?
  When this process hits 2 GB, it is not possible to open a notebook on this server. Even if it's 32 gigabytes and the CPU usage is low.
  
  Please let me know.

• OBIEE - Starter questions

  Looks like there is some interest in my work in Oracle Business Intelligence Suite of Foundation.

  Looks like it is made up of:

  -Oracle BI Enterprise Edition 11g

  -Oracle BI Publisher

  -Oracle Essbase

  -Oracle card scorecard and strategy management

  -Analytics link

  Trying to understand what Essbase is exactly and where Hyperion fit this?

  By documentation "Oracle Essbase is an OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) server."

  What does that mean? It is a product that once installed would deposit a database of Oracle (OLAP configured?) and some FMW?

  Deployment options would be:

  -deploy all products of our own infrastructure

  -Oracle platform suggested be Exalytics machine

  -What is the use of ODA? Anyone done this?

  To install OBIEE (and give it a try), you configure your linux machine (good choice, for me it works better on Linux than on Windows, fewer problems...), and if you do not have a DB somewhere in your COMPUTING environment where you can deploy some patterns, you also need to install the DB (same box or one, if that's the test can be made on the same as that of the other).

  Then you take the UCR and create the required DB schemas and run directly the OBIEE Installer. The Setup will install Weblogic, ask you if you want RTD (real-time decision, I guess it is not included in the license OBIF and will require an independent license if you want to use) and Essbase.

  It will be also set up directly.

  You have 3 options for installation:

  -simple, or no idea how it is called, will deploy OBIEE on the admin server in OBIEE, not now it's a managed server.

  -installation company, is the installation of weblogic and all the config as a normal real installation

  -software only, this one is one that you can deploy on your own weblogic installation or in the case of clusters, etc.

  Installer is one for all versions, it lets choose you component such as Essbase, or just install, then it s up that you know what you will be allowed to use based on the license you have (but everything will work, so if you use it, you need to make sure you get a license for it by yourself).

  Can be interesting because it contains everything (and more) with a lot of example (included essbase).

• JavaScript in obiee 3 questions (Export, page width, same page refresh)

  Hi all

  We have 3 numbers in javascript used in narrative mode to generate a hierarchy report.

  (1) for export to PDF, it's showing the JavaScript instead of report data.

  (2) when the hierarchy is that the bar of Internet Explore horizontal scrolling, it is truncating the remaining data. Is there a way to increase the width of dashboard page depends on the data?

  (3) and finally we need to update the javascript display the result in a new window... Is there a way to update it by clicking apply in time?

  Question 1 and 2

  (1) for export to PDF, it's showing the JavaScript instead of report data.

  Fixed part. We can use the export as an .mht file to view the report with javascript.

  (2) when the hierarchy is that the bar of Internet Explore horizontal scrolling, it is truncating the remaining data. Is there a way to increase the width of dashboard page depends on the data?

  Increase in the number of lines in the story at the default of 1 500... Now, it is not truncate the results and display completely...

  A third one is still pending and will inform you if I could find any workaround.

  Our user tries to select all in a products command prompt by typing "< <" icon in the quick selection of dashboard. But as soon as he selects ok, the prompt clears the selection. Is it all a question similar to face?

  It is a known issue. Check if your quick list is ' null ' downstairs. If the Null value is selected in the command prompt, it will eliminate the selection.

  You can check http://www.oracle.com/us/obiee-11g-technical-overview-078853.pdf for the OBIEE 11 g architecture. With the separation of the DB and the application layer, I would say Yes and also try to make them in the same region to avoid too many jumps network and overload of netwrok cross-region routing performance.

• Add Server BI as ODBC connection using free tool

  I am trying to add a native ODBC connection from my PC under Windows XP, the BI server.
  
  I want to use this option to write native SQL against the BI repository and as a source of data of BI Publisher increases it.
  
  We were able to accomplish this using TOAD, but our trial license has expired.
  
  I was hoping that other people might have done this before and help with advice.
  
  We hope to be able to do this with any FREE tool, but more specifically Oracle SQL Developer if possible.

  Several things here.

  (1) for Server BI of the query editor, you define a jdbc data source in Publisher. You don't need ODBC in the middle. Configure your data source as this:
  Data Source name:< you="" choose,="" "oracle="" bi="" server"="" makes="" sense="">
  Database driver class: oracle.bi.jdbc.AnaJdbcDriver
  Connection string: jdbc:oraclebi://yourbiserver:9703 / (if you have configured your BI server to use different ports can change 9703)
  Click on test connection to make sure you did it right.

  (2) If you still want to set up an ODBC connection (but you must if you configure as above, which is standard), then you create your ODBC DSN as normal (lots of docs on this on the web).

  (3) you can't question a source ODBC using SQL Developer as far as I know. You can use nqcmd or the Client ODBC OBIEE to question it or other tools like Excel. You can also consider Tora, who can question ODBC (enter the DSN "Database") and is free.

• Question of RPD OBIEE 12 c

  Gurus,

  My question is perhaps stupid please help.

  I installed OBIEE 12 c. I was able to connect to oracle and create a new RPD. When I try to open it in online mode its asking about a configuration of ODBC driver. I tried to set up the connection to the OBIEE server for the local host. It shows 4 instances OBI OBI SERVER 1 2 and 3. Which should I use and what is the purpose of having these in there?

  Do you have an example of RPD content as we get for 11g - sampleapp. If it doesn't there please help me find a way to connect to my system. If this isn't the case, please correct me. Thank you.

  You must create a new system DSN to connect to the RPD in online mode.

  1. go in ODBC data sources.

  2. create a new system DSN

  3. Add the server of Oracle's BI.

  4 specify the name and the Server (hostname), and then click Next (http://hostname:9502/analytics/saw.dll?bieehome).

  5. Please provide the connection information and the port 9514 (default).

  6. click on finish.

  You should now be able to connect the RPD in online mode. It will be useful.

  We were faced with the same problem and could solve it with the following steps (change your insatnceconfig):

  Try first with step 1 only.

• OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1 - research question

  We went to OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1. When you click apply in the quick bar to generate one of our dashboard, reports appear 'SEARCH' forever.

  When I check the status of the 'Administration' - 'Manage the Sessions' report, I can see that queries are completed in 5 sec.

  The issue was found. There is a bug in the version 11.1.1.7 with Internet Explorer.

  The '11.1.1.7.140114' patch is to fix the problem.
