  I have a question:

  Recently, we have improved a number of virtual servers in Windows 2003 to 2012. In fact, in each case we installed a new virtual machine, detached the data of the old 2003 VM disks and tie then the new virtual machine to 2012. Of course, this way the VMDK file remains in the folder of the old virtual machine. When I then deletes the old VM, a new has his record with his normal config files and the VMDK where the OS is installed and THAT VMDK data remains in the folder of the old virtual machine which is empty otherwise.

  To a suitable opportunity (restart Windows updates) I would like to stop the new virtual machine and physically move data VMDK private new virtual machine folder, and then restart.

  Unfortunately, when I do it with the browser of the vSphere client data store, it acuatlly copy the VMDK to the new folder and then removes it from the old folder.

  Since this is a large amount of data (several hundred GB), I would avoid it, of course.

  I have not found a really _moving_ "GUI" method a VMDK from one folder to another folder in the data store even without copying.

  I can't SSH in an ESXi host that has access to the data store, and then use 'mv' at the shell level. This seemed to work very well with a few small trials VM (s).

  But is it safe to do this way? Is there another way (official)?

  Hello

  The vmkfstools command is a command to run at the server command line, no windows.

  as:

  vmkfstools EI /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/foo/test.vmdk /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/bar/test.vmdk

  I do however am 100% sure that the mv command is not supposed to be used to move the virtual disks.

  There are several reasons:

  The vmkfstools command was specially written to create/copy/clone/rename virtual disks. This command takes the hosts management resources into account. Also will write that the blocks are written more optimally. It is also the command which is fully aware of the mechanisms such as thin and sparse disks.

  It is also the only command that VMware will support if you end up getting in trouble.

  I do not understand why the Photos shows the name of the file twice.   These fields are not labelled, but I was under the impression that the top line was the Description, the second line is the name of the file, and the third line is the Date.   Because only the first line is displayed under thumbnails, I try to have as much descriptive information appear in this area (as in the past, we could do with iPhoto or Aperture).

  In other words, when I run the script I hold my keywords to replace everything in the top line completely, eliminating the name of the file. Is there something wrong with this approach?  I would still have the name of the file to the second line, right?

  Remove the file name of the title field, and then run the script. You will have the chance

  You can manually delete the "-" at the beginning or modify the script.

• Why will my reading to capture video in movie maker plays high speed like an old silent movie?

• Windows Live Movie Maker: What happened to the function "Capture Video Device" from the good old Windows Movie Maker?

  I am running Windows 7 (64 bit) and Windows Live Movie Maker 14.0.8091.0730. Good old Windows Movie Maker that came on Windows XP, I could add video capturing directly from the video device (my webcam). In this new version of Movie Maker extra in Windows 7, I can't.

• Tax records from old computer movement; which directory should I put them given that Application data is just a junction point?

  By train to move my old data files from my PC to the new laptop, I found the files that resided in the Application Data (XP) cannot be moved to Win 7.  The year next Turbo tax will get my files in C:\Documents and settings //Applicaton data and will conclude not just her.  Where should I put my old Application data for future use because I can't access the request data AND don't know how to load if I have access under the new configuration?

  I see two answers to your question:

  • Check the Turbo Tax FAQ or ask their assistance service. A lot of people would have been in your situation.
  • The hack by creating a symbolic link to the new location. Not recommended because it is not robust.

• ESXI 5.5 move SQL vmdk

  I have a SQL 2000 VM server that has the following provision:

  An OS VMDK

  a vmdk of data (with the sql on database)

  a backup VMDK (also the log drive)

  It runs in Server 2003 R2 standard

  I need to move the database to a new virtual machine that is running Server 2003 Enterprise R3.

  What would be the best way to move it to the new virtual machine? I need little time as possible to the bottom.

  How big are the discs you are trying to move?

  My gut feeling would be to test it by cloning the VM SQL then existing tests to pass this clone disks, so that offline (off-grid) on your new server and pointing the SQL DB and the files on the disks that have been added. See if the DB fires upward in a off-grid, stand-alone environment. If Yes, then you are in business and has a process to move forward.

  I'm not a SQL, so there may be other considerations when moving from DB and files I don't know. Another sure way of fire to do this would be to test the existing SQL DB with a full backup of backup and restore just in the new server. This could take a little longer, depending on the size, but it is actually a restoration on a new server. Who I'm sure there are many SQL items on the internet for.

• GUI shows again the old size after expansion VMDK

  I extended VMDK using vmkfstools, extended successfully got drive and my windows VM has detected the drive extended and used diskpart to extend the volume.

  Now when I see the size of the disk hard in VC it still shows the old value of disc size. Even my free size of the data store has not been reduced. I did a rescan and got reduced the size of my data store. But the VM disk size still old.

  We use esx 3.0

  Please help on this...

  Restart the services mgmt and vpxa.

  Or remove the virtual machine from the inventory and add it back again.

  I don't know what you're trying to achieve, but you can get the latest version of Flash Player here:

  I strongly do not recommennd that you try to install different versions of Flash Player on the same PC.

  You should also know that Flash Player 6 is very old and will have security vulnerabilities and, possibly, the compatibility issues.

• Going Old School - ADF 10g on JBoss 7

  Yes, I know it is not supported.  Yes, I know it's old.  Yes, I know you're wondering why.  Because there was a voice from above, "moving our ADF 10g to JBoss applications!  Such are the ways of the senior management.

  Now it's the epic of the week 4 and I reached a major obstacle.  For some reason any (I think) is not generated javascript code associated with the components of 10g.  The components are rendered, but not compressed and command buttons would order.  I can start JBoss and the app without errors, but when I insert a page in Internet Explorer, I get many javascript such as these errors:

  Turns out in my web.xml file, I need to put the version = "2.4" in the section.  That triggers JBoss to use the correct version of the JSP (I think).  Previously, I had 2.5 in there, what components of 10 GB ADF are not compatible with.

  * Edit * while that may have something to do with it, I also had two version of the adf faces - impl.jar.  One had underscores in the 10_1_3_x removed from the files.  Otherwise, JDeveloper would not compile the program.  However, it also caused the previous problem.  So I have two sets of jars, one for compiling and one for the deployment.

  To elaborate a little bit on the title, I installed a second hard drive in my ESXi 4 server.  All my VMs use discs finely put into service, however, after that I moved the files of the virtual machine to the new data store (using mv) and readded the virtual machine to inventory, the disks are provided are thinner but are thick.  This behavior is expected?

  This is behavior expected - don't use mv to VMDK!

• Move a vmdk attached to a virtual machine

  We have two Equallogic 4000 s in a group and three ESXi servers attached to them by a network of dedicated storage.  ESXi servers have essentially more license with HA activated.  I have a virtual machine that is an Exchange 2007 server.  It has 5 VMDK attached to it.  I want to spend one of them in a different data store.  It is install the vmdk that hosts the Exchange 2007 application.  I want the rest of the VMDK to remain in data warehouses that they reside currently in.  How can I do this so that I do not destroy the installation of application Exchange 2007?

  You must power off the virtual computer, then use migrate / change data store / advanced.

  Unfortunately the most essential edition doesn't have the SVMotion license, so you can not with the virtual machine.

• Snapshots moves my vmdk files

  Hello

  I created VM with a system disk and a disk temp on separate data NFS storage to avoid having to temporary (i.e. snapshot of storage) backup data. However, when I create a snapshot of the virtual machine, the delta file is created with the system disk, the path to the disk in vCenter (change the settings on the virtual computer) changes its data store and he stayed even when I remove the snapshot and merge the vmdk files. Is this really EXPECTED behavior?

  It is on VC 2.5 U3 and U4 of ESX 3.5.

  Hi, can you guarantee that the VMDK files are named differently in data warehouses. By default, VC will give eponymous to a second VMDK if it's on a different data store. This causes problems with some instant operations. Make sure that VMDK have different file names.
