Windows 8 is really bad, I HATE it.

I would like to point out something that you may not realize: Windows 8
has two interfaces; the modern/Metro Interface (which may be all the)
you have looked at) and the traditional desktop Interface. That
Traditional desktop interface is almost identical to Windows 7
interface; the biggest difference is that there is no Orb start
Click to bring up the start menu.
But note that you can get the ORB start by using one of the many
third-party programs, are free or very cheap (the classic interface
http://classicshell.sourceforge.NET/ and debut8 to
http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/; my personal preference is
Debut8, but they are both very good).  And goes from an interface to
the other is very easy; There are several ways, but simply by pressing
the Windows key is perhaps the easiest.
Just install one of these two and using the traditional desktop computer
interface may be a better choice for you than going to Windows 7. I have
use Windows 8, almost exclusively with traditional workstations
the interface and with 8 Start installed. If you were to look at and use
my computer, you would have a hard time realizing that it is not
Windows 7.

I suggest you to install the program in compatibility mode and check.

Make older programs in this version of Windows

Most of the programs created for earlier versions of Windows also work in this version of Windows, but some older programs might run poorly or not at all. If a program written for an earlier version of Windows does not work, you can try to change the program compatibility settings, by using the program compatibility problems or manually choose compatibility settings.

  • Installation of an older program (Mathcad 6) on windows 7

I am trying to install an older version of Mathcad (version 6) on windows 7 Home premium.  The program was very well under XP (SP3).

The compatibility tools fail.  The program will not install and I get an error message on the incompatibility of a 32-bit program running in a 64-bit environment.

Any thoughts?  Upgrade to Win 7 pro and installing 'XP mode' will do the trick?

    Thanks for any help

    Mike o'neill

    Success!

Although I couldn't get Mathcad 6 to install in the usual way, I had to run using an old method (that didn't work).

Basically, I installed it on a machine running XP (I used XPsp3), then copied the entire repertoire of Mathcad 6 (default is WINMCAD) on the Windows XP machine.  After a bit of spot test last night, I can tell you that it can create, modify, open, save, and print files, which is all I really need.  Interestingly, the program also runs the USB that I used to do the transfer.

    Sometimes, take you a break.

  • Microsoft Image Composer can run on Windows 7?

I installed Microsoft Image Composer apparently successfully on a Windows 7 computer. However, when tries it to open it, the error message is server.dll is not loaded. However, I can see this file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Image Composer. Is there any solution for this?

If it is an older product there is not much chance of the same race in W7. What version of W7 you use? Whether it is professional or ultimate edition, you can use the Windows XP Mode and use the Microsoft Image Composer.

  • What startup programs can I on Windows 7?

How to choose the programs I want to start?

First of all, note that you should be in * all * programs that
starts automatically, not only those who enter in the system tray.
Not all the programs auto-start manifesting by an icon in the
    Status bar.

On each program, you don't want to automatically start, check its
Options to see if he has the choice of not start (make sure you)
Indeed choose not to run, not just a "don't show icon.
Optional). Many can easily and better be arrested like that. If that is not
work, run MSCONFIG from the start. Run the line, and then click the Startup tab.
Uncheck the programs that you do not want to automatically start.

However, if I were you, I wouldn't do it just for the application of
the minimum number of running programs. Despite what many people say
you, you should be concerned, not with the way * a lot * of these programs
you run, but * that *. Some of them can degrade performance severely, but
others have no effect on performance.

Don't stop all programs to run willy-nilly. What you need to do
is to determine what each program is, what its value is up to you which
the performance cost is its running all the time. You can try
Internet search and ask questions about the details here.

Once you have this information, you can make a smart informed
decision on what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.

  • I can run vista windows on an external hard drive?

Hi I was wondering if I could run windows vista Home premium (64 bit) on an external hard drive...

and how would I do it?

I was reading around and found some info that said that I need to start from the main internal drive, but I think that my internal drive has some errors and im not sure how long it will last... Although I did have too much problems with it since my last restore full on a month and half ago.

any suggestions or steps I must take to be able to do this?

I don't think that this is possible. It is possible to install/boot from a HDD external bootable with some revisions minor http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/07/15/how-to-install-windows-7-or-vista-from-bootable-portable-usb-flash-memory-key-or-hard-disk-drive/ (assuming that your BIOS supports this)-say if your CD/DVD has not, recovery or reinstallation, but it is not the same as Vista from the external HARD drive.  I think the biggest problem is the drivers who won't be loaded until the Windows startup and Windows could not start without the USB already loaded if it was located on an external USB drive (and the other drivers as well) and there may be some problems with the boot files.  There may be other issues - I think XP and Vista are INTENTIONALLLY DESIGNED to work this way (for reasons of piracy among others)...

I read a post from Carey Frisch MVP, who says flatly that it cannot be done.  Here is an article on the topic which also categorically states that it cannot be done with XP or Vista http://computer-drives-storage.suite101.com/article.cfm/can_you_boot_from_external_hard_disk_drive.

I read a few articles that say it's possible with XP using the appropriate BIOS and a whole bunch of changes in the registry (changes that have not been identified), but I frantly in doubt.  Too many other articles argue against it.  In addition, it would be MUCH slower (no matter how fast the hard disk) due to the method of connection - you do not use this way on a daily basis.

Many of the dismantled external when hard drives are compaatible with and will fit inside the computer case and work as internal drives - maybe you can try that as an alternative (assuming that you do not want to buy another drive HARD internal for now).

To test your hard drive, check the manufacturer and then get the diagnostic utility of: http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/hard-drive-support/302602-hard-drive-diagnostic-utilities.html.  If she failed the test, replace it.  If she passes the test, then it's probably nothing wrong with it.  You can also run chkdsk /f /r from the elevated command prompt and see what happens - happens to you lots of bad sectors and a lot of corruption, then it is time to replace the drive before it will totally fail...

I hope this helps (although it is probably not the answer you were hoping for).

    Good luck!

  • How do you get older games to run on windows 8, which are made for xp

I tombraider games from 1998 to 2010 and none of them play also have Indiana Jones makes any game I tried failed, it will load, but within seconds, he locks upwards and the only way to get my computer going again stops

Try the click with the right button on either the shortcut for the game or the actual .exe.  Select properties, then go to the Compatibility tab.  Then go to the section "Compatibility Mode" and check the box that says "run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select the option of Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Hit then just apply and exit the window and try to run the game.  If it does not so inform the community.

Illustrator CS5 is 32-bit and Windows 10 is a 64-bit OS, unstable kind of compatibility (as appropriate).

Illustrator CS5 is not officially supported on Windows 10 and there are not too many people in this forum has been to get it to run, so you're basically on the search of your own stuff.
