  Your MP3 player should have 2 settings - MSC that should allow the player to be used as a
  external drive and PSG that is the parameter to use to sync with WMP11. Remove the MP3
  and restart the computer. Change the MP3 in MTP mode - it power off and plug it in.

  Until a week ago, Windows Media Player and my portable device of Sanza fuse got along beautifully when sudden WMP ceased to recognize the device.  This despite the fact that the Sanza is correctly connected and appears in the personal devices from my computer.  The Sanza even shows on its screen that is connected, but it's like OMP no longer sees it?   It seems that the Windows Media Player library database is corrupted.

  Follow these steps and check if they help.

  Step 1:

  To resolve this problem, delete the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:

  a. Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player and then click OK.

  b. Select all files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

  Note you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

  c. restart Windows Media Player.

  Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

  Step 2:

  If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

  If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft and then click OK.

  a. Select the folder Media Player and then click on Delete on the file menu.

  b. restart Windows Media Player.

  Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

  If the steps above do not help, try to uninstall and then reinstall Windows Media Player and check

  Step 3:

  Uninstall and reinstall Windows Media Player first turning the Windows feature then on again.

  Help! Last year, Internet Explore kept closing (Data Execution Prevention) so I switched to Firefox, which is great, but since then Windows media Player will not work.   Take note of the results of the System File Checker.  Then after you run the two, run Windows Update.

  You are able to update of AVG?
  Any other antivirus (i.e. Norton, McAfee, etc.) has already been installed on this computer?
  When you say 'Nothing' that you tried to install?
  If you disable AVG and then run Windows Update you get a different outcome\error?

  Windows Media Player won't play .avi or .mpg files; files which I know to be readable by Windows Media Player. In addition, this program has played these accurate files in the month of August. The files are readable on other programs. I searched other forums, but it is impossible to find an answer to this problem, except the recommendation of a codec - although I don't know how I have "lost" the codec in the past two months. Today, spontaneously and erratically, Windows Media Player recognizes the .mpg files, but not the .avi. Microsoft Security Essentials have installed and up to date, if it is not a virus.
