Open a .docx file in Works 8.5

I'm trying to help a family member who still has Microsoft Works. He has a file of an attachment to e-mail that is ".docx". When I try to open a message says there is nothing on the computer that can be read. (Dell w / Vista around the age of 2 months). I have download a service pack that was mentioned in another forum. When I tried to install it, it came back with a message that there are no programs on the computer that allows the upgrade.

Also having difficulty opening files "exlx" (had this right, Excel).

I tried to talk to him by buying just 'word', but the Ebinizer in him will not be here of it. Any other suggestions.

Thank you

    Hello

    You remember recent changes to the computer?

    The program worked very well?

    Follow the methods below to work on the issue

    How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

    Note: After you perform a clean boot, follow these as to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state from the article above.

    Method 2: start your computer in safe mode and check if you can run the file or program

    See the link below to start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Check if you can run the file in safe mode.

    Method 3: Run the system restore to the date when the file or the program worked very well.

    How to restore Windows XP to a previous state

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/306084

    Note: System Restore does not affect personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos. You can only restore files that you have deleted if you have made backups of these files. Programs that are installed after that date will be lost.

    Method 4: Change the password for the administrator account on the computer and check.

    It has nothing to do with what version of Windows you are using. He
    has to do with which version of Word you are using (or if you)
    have installed the compatibility pack).

    The .docx format is the default format used by Word 2007 and 2010.
    Since you are using Word 2003, you can't natively read .docx
    files.

    There are two possible solutions to your problem:

    1. ask your correspondent to refer the file to the old .doc format. He
    can do this by choosing Save as, rather than save.

    2 download and install the free "Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack
    for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats"to

  • Open a PDF file of runtime android application

    Hello

    I try to open a PDF file of my Android app on a phone BB10 Z10 (10.2.1).

    He intended me to use 'File Viewer' with adobereader logo, but nothing happen when I click on it.

    I tried to put files on different storage and directory, but I have the same problem with no error:

    Public warehousing

    public static String getDefaultPath() {
            return Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(Environment.DIRECTORY_DOWNLOADS).getAbsolutePath()+"/";
    }

    And internal storage:

    public static String getDefaultPath() {
            return context.getFilesDir().getAbsolutePath()+"/";
    }

    Here is my code to open the pdf file, it works fine on Android:

    File file = new File(path);
    if (file.exists()) {

        try {
            Toast.makeText(context, "Trying to open " +path+" => "+ file.getName(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();

            Uri fileUri = Uri.fromFile(file);
            Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
            i.setData(fileUri);
            i.setType("application/pdf");
             i.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
            context.startActivity(i);

        } catch (Exception e) {
            Logger.getInstance().LogException(e);
            Toast.makeText(context, "Unable to pen file..." + e.getMessage() + " " + e.getClass().getName(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();

        }
    } else {
        Toast.makeText(context, "File not found..." + file.getName(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();

    }

    I do not see my camera in DDMS, there is nothing, how can I debug to check if the system returns me an error when I try to open the pdf?

    Thanks for your help!

    Best,

    Ricken

    I solved my problem.

    There were actually two problems, the first is I have to use public storage for adobereader is able to access my pdf file, so I solved it by copying pdf to dir public cache before opening it and then I can keep all other protected files.

    The other problem is rather strange and seems to be a bug, I replaced:

    i.setData(fileUri);
    i.setType("application/pdf");
    i.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);

    with a little:

    i.setDataAndType(fileUri, "application/pdf");

    And now the pdf file is successfully opened by adobereader

  • Open extensions Manager * FM, *.pdf,.doc, *.docx files in In Design?

    Open extensions Manager * FM, *.pdf,.doc, *.docx files in In Design?   How does it work? @ !

    Hello, no I'm afraid not. Extension Manager uncompresses the ZXP files as its primary role. Whatever files are located in ZXP file will be unzipped to their specified location, for example, in the folder of scripts InDesign, the office, or just everywhere where the producer of the content specified files should go.

  • When opening .doc website link, FF adds .docx file extention & does not open in Word 2010, with incorrect file format error. Pls Help

    I use Firefox v12 to open a hyperlink to a Web site that points to a door MS Word Document to download.

    Then, we are asked to open the file with MS Word (default), which is our installed version of MS Word 2010.

    Firefox then renames the file by adding a .docx file name for example filename.doc.docx. MS Word 2010 opens with the error "invalid file format", which is correct that Firefox has renamed.

    Is there a fix or a workaround for this?

    You can try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all the actions file.

  • PC will not open DOCX files

    Hi I need to open DOCX files on a regular basis and my pc will not allow me, the msg I get when I try to open these files is shown below as an attachment, please take a look at this msg and I would like to know why and what I have to do, is this supposed file type to be like a pdf doc?

    .docx is the further expansion of Word 2007/2010 document.
    If you have Word 2003 or earlier, please go here:
    http://Office.Microsoft.com/en-us/Word-help/open-a-Word-2007-document-in-an-earlier-version-of-Word-HA010044473.aspx
    and this will give you what you need to do.

    If doesn't help then:

    In Windows Explorer, right-click a .docx file and select "open with...". »
    In the dialog box that follows, select "Microsoft Office Word", or navigate to the location of Office program files and select WINWORD. EXE.
    Make sure that you select the option "always use the selected program to open this type of file".

    If help not the only thing I can advise is to try to restore the database by using Word Recovery Toolbox. http://www.oemailrecovery.com/word_recovery.html
