Search on the start menu does not remember recently opened programs and files
"" Search programs and files "bar in the menu 'Start' to remember what has been typed"
Is it really possible that MS desinged this search bar without the ability to remember what has been typed recently? I'm sure this isn't, so can you help me find the option that allows me to turn it on. In the contrary case, retype repeatedly repeated orders in the bar!I found a way to save at least research. Why all my programs and files open with Microsoft word?
All my programs and files open with Microsoft Word and I need to know how to change that?
I've seen that happen before when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After Word selection using the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file, the Word document referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in Word, as it should.
The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the browser will want to be opened by Word. This is known as a file association. . The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely.
This has happened enough that a small utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is a registry hack to do this, but I recommend the utility unLNK for its ease of use.
I used to send people on another site to download this utility, but this site has become confused with all the ads and fake download links. I put a copy on by SkyDrive own here.
Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new default.

Function "search programs and files" Windows 7 no longer works
Function "search programs and files" my windows 7 does not work anymore. When I type "notepad" for example on the field "search programs and files" Windows 7 and press ENTER, nothing happens. It is same when I open my 'Computer' windows and try to 'Looking for work', I have nothing. I tried to stop "Windows Search" and turn on again from the Control Panel, programs. It did not help. If anyone knows the number, please help. Thanks in advance!
Press the Windows key + R > type services.msc and press enter > find it on the list: Windows Search , it must be started and Automatic (delayed start)
Had installed something before that happens? Perhaps it was caused by a third-party application.

Windows Server 2012 does not seem to recognize the space between the program and files
I installed 'R' in D:\Program Files.
Then I need to install another application that must refer to this path and validate during its installation. Installation of the next application saying that there is a "Invalid Version of R.If I install R in the following directories, it is recognized and my next application installed successfully:
C:\Program Files
Files S:\Program
D:\RWindows Server is not recognize the R application properly installed in "D:\Program Files." Windows runs into the space between "Program" and "Files" and put an end to the execution of this order.
The application I am trying to install the message 'Invalid Version of R' returns because he can't run the command check correctly. Because nothing is returned from the R.exe, he is unable to continue. This issue seems to be related to Windows and once R.exe can be run correctly D:\Program files, I would expect demand to continue to install. Is anyway getting D:\Program Files to be recognized as the other 3 directories I mentioned?

Can I upgrade to vista without deleting my xp programs and files?
upgrade
Can I upgrade to vista without deleting my xp programs and files? I don't want to lose my programs/files downloaded, but I don't want to argue with remove them and reinstall later
Yes, you can perform an upgrade "On the spot" and all your personal data and software applications will be available in Vista (provided that they are compatible Vista).
As always, you should create a backup Image in XP before you begin the upgrade, just in case. Also check that you still have your XP product key. If this isn't the case, then use one of the below product key finders.

How to recover programs and files that have been written too by a full system restore?
Original title: data recovery
Is there a program that will allow me to recover programs and files that have been written too by a full system restore? I had to do a complete system restore, because the computer has been locked up in a start of the closed loop cycle.
Hi Apmech9,
1. don't you restore the computer to factory settings?
2. do you just restore the computer to an earlier time by using the system restore feature in Windows XP?If you restore the computer to its factory settings, you will then get in touch with the manufacturer of the system for more support options.
If you had just restored the computer to an earlier time using System Restore, you can undo the system restore to revert back the changes.
See the article "How to undo a restoration of the system after performing a system restore" in this article of theVisit our Microsoft answers feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

Migration to Vista Home Premium programs and files for Windows 7 Ultimate
Hi guys, I just want to know if there's no possibilities
to migrate from installed programs and files in my Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate
--------------------------------
Also if I have Vista Home Premium should I switch to Windows 7 Home Premium too. I want to Windows 7 Ultimate!
Hello
You can upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium or ultimate; the choice is yours.
«Compare the editions of Windows 7»
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/compare
If you go from Vista 32 bit Home Premiun 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate, you can do an inplace upgrade.
The same goes for Vista 64 bit for Windows 7 64-bit
This will keep your programs and data intact.
But ALWAYS make a backup of data when you perform this type of work on your computer.
"How to do an Installation of upgrade Inplace of Vista to Windows 7"
http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/1818-upgrade-install-Windows-7-a.html
And before you buy Windows 7 read and check to see if your computer is able to use Windows 7 to its best advantage:
Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.
If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.
Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=20
Check if your specifications are compatible for Windows 7:
"Windows 7 system requirements"
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/system-requirements
"Windows 7 Compatibility Center" for software and hardware:
http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx
Windows 7 upgrade paths:
http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd772579 (v = ws.10) .aspx
And the Microsoft Store where you can get an idea of the price of Windows 7:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/en_US/list/CategoryID.50726100
See you soon.
p.s. If you want from 32-bit to 64-bit, or 64 bit to 32 bit, upgrade facilities are not available.
You will need to do a clean install.

MS complete PC Backup and Restore for Vista Ultimate backup programs and files?
I'm new to computers and there is still a lot to learn, I have an OS Vista Home Premium and I think to upgrade to Ultimate and I read that the complete PC Backup and restore can be used with MS Virtual Server to back up the computer. But what I read didn't specifically tell me if she saves some programs I downloaded, it says full backup but computer language being what it is I don't quite mean it as programs and files, which is what I'm interested in. So I can save my programs and files with this system? I don't want to go all the time, trouble and upgrade costs if I can only do half of what I want to do. Thanks a lot for any help on this idea.
