Opening reassociating/merger with Photos library: help

I did my due diligence by reading the previous posts on this topic, but I stay confused because I found enough previous posts about my specific question/situation.  So, here goes.

When first Photos are out with Yosemite, I chose to continue using Aperture and my main application. So when I first launched the pictures, I said 'no' to the opening of import process.  In opening, part of my library is on my Mac and the other is referenced on an external drive.

I have now decided to cut ties with Aperture (d * mn you Apple...) and go with Photos (and storage iCloud). (I really tried to warm up in Lightroom, but it's just so... so...) Gly).

Currently, in the Photos, there is a folder called "iPhoto events" that contains the file structure that seems to be the same there as it is in the opening.

My questions:

How can [1] I now say Photos to import my Aperture library (given that this option is not officially presented once you launch at the start of the pictures for the first time)?

[2] as I continued to use the opening for awhile, I reason that changes to the photos I made it do not appear in 'iPhotos events' in the Photos?

[3] for the photos referenced in Aperture, should I - Interior opening - first turn them into photos managed (assuming my SDD as being the ability - all photos, or should I leave it as referenced and can say Photos where they are (using the 'show referenced file in the Finder... "Command.

Silly question...

No reason not to blow your library of existing Photos and simply re - import into your Aperture library?  You don't mention using Photos at all then perhaps there is nothing worth keeping 'current' library who would come again if you simply re-created.

The answer to Question 1 is similar to what I mentioned above, delete your current photo library and then drag and drop your Aperture library on top of the icon of Photos or simply revive Photos and he will complain that it can't find your just deleted photo library and asks you to find it and you could point to your Aperture library.  Where things could get complicated, is if you have made changes / updates / additions in opening and Photos.  These would be quite difficult to reconcile if you did it manually much less waiting for your Mac to understand.

The answer to Question 2 is exactly what you said - stuff that you did in Aperture rest in Aperture and stuff you did in Photos rest in Photos

Do not have enough experience for the #3 answer, but I suspect either Photos it will handle or your suggested plan would work.

  • Release of the place on iPhone photo library

I confess that I find the Apple handle iCloud and photo libraries really confusing way.

Currently, I only 2.8 GB of available storage on my iPhone and want to free up space. So, if I go to settings > general > storage & use iCloud > manage storage (in storage), it tells me that Photos & camera uses 893 MB of available space.

    Yet.

If I go into settings > Photos & camera, set to iCloud photo library and optimizes storage and Upload iPhone to my photo stream are all enabled.

Which does not mean that all my pictures and videos should be stored in iCloud and that therefore my storage should be 0 (or near enough), no 893MB?

I tried to delete the photos and remove about 100 old and new (I don't take photos if often from new ways a month ago), but this does not seem to make any dent in the 893 MB (and yes I removed them from the recently deleted folder).

This is how it is supposed to work or is it possible to recover this 893MB?

iCloud library isn't Cloud Computing to check-in service. The primary purpose of iCloud photo library is to provide a single source where your pictures taken leave of any device will be automatically shared with all devices and computers signed on the same with iCloud library iCloud account signed in.

iCloud photo library manages your dynamic storage. Removal of the photos from your camera permanently deletes in the world. But if your global library is more than 893 MB (which is likely), the number will not come down. iCloud provided as many pictures optimized for your device as possible, the rest is miniatures.

  • How to create the new library of Photos to iCloud without it merging with the former?

I started my iCPL in January 2015. It is now 104 Gb/8000 photos. In a year I need to upgrade my plan of storage iCloud.

So I think I would make the existing one a regular photo library, and start a new photo library iCloud.

If I start a new library now and make the iCPL, merge it with the existing iCPL. I want to replace the existing in iCloud.

    I could do (I think): -.

    1. make the existing a non-iCPL and rename it.

    2. create a new lib Photos and make the library system iCloud.

    3. the new library (empty) will download and merge with the former in iCloud, so it contains now 8000 photos of the original lib.

    4. delete all the 8000 photos in the new.

    5. start put new photos in the photo library now empty iCloud.

Is there a better way? I do it too difficult?

I can see what I've described above taking a long time to settle on all devices, even if I can avoid 30 day waiting by removing the deleted record recently.

    Thank you

You use "Optimize Mac Storage" on your Mac? Then, you will need to make sure that all the photos to download to your Mac before you copy your current library corresponding to your backup disk and start deleting iCloud.  Is there enough free storage on your Mac to do this?

I would also like to than my thin iCloud library. My iCloud library has only my favorite photos of many years, I want on all my devices as well as the most recent photos that I'm still trying. Because the iCloud library must be the library system, only in iCloud library photos are available in the media for other applications browser, so I keep all the photos here that I can use in other applications.

What I do to save bandwidth and download time is to have two libraries:

    1. A large library where I keep all the photos I want to keep - it's my photo archives. This library is on an external drive that is supported by Time Machine and is currently still an Aperture library.
    2. A smaller library iCloud in my pictures folder.

I import new photos first to the iCloud library, remove all the bad moves that do not need archiving, then I export the originals at the library of the archives.

And then I start editing the photos in the library to iCloud and learn by removing and keeping only the best photos.

  • Photo library on mac was emissions additional no duplicated and then imported into Lightroom 6 PROBLEM: all duplicates appear (capitan OSX). Help me with this please!

I imported all my photos in photo library on macbook OSX capitan. The photos were additional emissions not duplicated using power foto and gemini. This in the photo library. After checking, I have 48,000 photos, 80,000 duplicted >. After that completely eliminate the unwanted duplicate photos I import to LR6 by drag and drop the trump card in the library. Then all photos, including the deleted ones appear.

Any solution or another way to import? photo for mac contains all my data being sought.

This file did you import into Lr?

And I would say you will find the duplicate in Lr, note the file name and then search the photo library to see if you have multiple instances of this photo. You cannot use Spotlight; you will need to use another utility like find easy.

But you are right; If you have deleted them permanently from the "recently deleted" album they should be in the trash; you could confirm that as well.

And use 'Show in Finder' alleged images duplicated in Lr to see where the copy is stored; that should also give you an idea of why it did not work.

  • How Merge iPhoto, Aperture, library of Photos (and avoid duplication)?

Hello, I had several iPhoto and opening libraries which were badly named and who had no doubt duplicates. I have now opened and Photos created new libraries. Then the Photos seems to have renamed some of the libraries, I think that each of my old iPhoto/Aperture libraries has a corresponding photo library (except one).

I would switch to a lightroom finder-hosted workflow and I want to get all my photos in a big file (or a folder with subfolders dated), with all duplicates marked for deletion. Ideally, I'll end with a master and a modified version of the final files, but if it's too hard, I'm OK with a few masters.

Is it possible to automate this process?

  • Library of mobile Photos with iCloud library enabled

TL; DR: Library of Photos while using iCloud does not merge, but adds the entire library to iCloud, once again, in my case upgrade my plan of storage while plenty of space for this merger

    All,

I have been using iCloud photo library for a long time now to synchronize photos between devices, and.

I'm running out of space in the drive of my Mac, and I wanted to move the library to the SD card, so I followed the steps to copy the folder and then selecting the alt-click on the Photos icon library.

It works, all (or most) of the exhibition of photos very well.

When I go into Preferences > iCloud he says "iCloud for Photos features are available in the library of the system", so I go to Preferences > general and click 'Use as library system' which I think is the correct step since I don't want to spend the entire hard drive and SD card is always connected (it's a Transcend JetDrive Lite 330 enough to store things I don't usually work) (such as photos, music, files ISO and VMs). ICloud options are available click on, so I check 'iCloud photo library' and then it starts to redownload my entire library

Since the library is the same, I wasn't expecting to download and let me upgrade my iCloud-storage plan. I did, for fear of deleting something, but I have always received a lot of space in my 50 GB plan that I can see in system preferences > iCloud (using the ~ 37 GB).

This is the expected behavior and what I need to download again, all my photos? They're all here already!

Are there additional steps to follow when moving the library AND iCloud is activated? I sure miss what is obvious, but I followed all the steps described in official documents and other internet resources, nothing helps, that is: no way to avoid the double space in iCloud so spend my iCloud storage plan.

    Yes.

Photos will download the library once again, because it cannot be sure that the library has moved is completely identical.  It is downloaded again and check for duplicates. Once the download is complete, you use more storage than before iCloud, but it will take a lot of time.

But it shouldn't be necessary to upgrade the storage plan. You should be able to demote him again as soon as the download is complete.

What I do, when I want to move the library to a new location is to create a new empty library on the new drive and then turn on the library empty as the iCloud photo library. The library will be downloaded icloud in the empty library instead of download. It's faster and avoid the prompt to upgrade storage iCloud. But the drawback is that I need to name all the faces again, given that the faces does not synchronize to iCloud. And the projects will be missing.  I'm keeping a copy of the original library in the new location, so I can use old projects and can find faces in the event of doubt about a name.

  • MAC - impossible to find "Pictures folder" / Iphoto photo library and open the Iphoto Application at all

    Hi all

I have Apple devices for a few years now, but I still find it difficult to understand the system. I want to put an end to that, so I finally registered.

I try to look at the tutorials and read the forums, but I can't find concrete answers to my situation.

First of all, in my application of Photos of my MacBook, I remove hundreds of photos and videos, then I go to recently deleted screen and I delete them all permanently.

However my disk space is the same before under 'Storage' summary when I check "to about this Mac". I restarted the Mac and waited for days, the space does not release upward.

Then I read in a forum and found the following answer:

Your photos has not deleted because they still exist in iPhoto or Aperture, whatever you use. Photos saves disk space by creating links to the already existing files in iPhoto/Aperture, rather than duplicate. This means that if you want to delete a file, you must make sure that it has deleted all.

If you can live without ever using iPhoto/Aperture once again, go to your Pictures folder and delete iPhoto Library and Aperture Library . In this way, the only copies of your photos will be those photos, and removing free space on your computer.

    The questions are the following:

    (1) after reading this, I decided to look it up in my pictures folder in the Finder to locate the iPhoto library, however it is not there on the left side, after reading the forums, I still cannot locate the iPhoto library anywhere.

    (2) in case I finally find my iPhoto library and delete it, are the images that I see now in the deleted Application Photos?

    (3) another curiosity, when I try to open IPHOTO, the following message appears:

And then after trying the 'search App Store':

I did not need to actually use my iPhoto or App Photos in particular, I do not yet fully understand the difference. I want to just my photos to be stored in ONE place and when I take hours to remove them permanently, get my rear space and do not learn, they still exist elsewhere (iPhoto library).

Also please help me understand what am I supposed to do with the iPhoto application now that gives me these error messages.

    Thank you very much!

    (1) after reading this, I decided to look it up in my pictures folder in the Finder to locate the iPhoto library, however it is not there on the left side, after reading the forums, I still cannot locate the iPhoto library anywhere.

The images folder must be manually added to the sidebar.

    Open the Finder preferences:

    • Click anywhere on the empty office to bring the Finder to the front, then go to the Finder menu in the main menu bar, open "Preferences".
Click the tab of the sidebar and add all the items to the sidebar, you want to see.

Now, open the images in the sidebar folder in the Finder.  Is your photo library in iPhoto there?

Then drag it to an external drive to make a backup copy, then delete it and empty the trash.  Accidentally delete the photo library.

    (2) in case I finally find my iPhoto library and delete it, are the images that I see now in the deleted Application Photos?

No, the photos in your library of Photos and the iPhoto library are separate files.  It was created by hard links.

Hard links are new files, which use the same entry in the table. They store the contents in blocks of same on the disks, so the entries are not duplicated, but if you remove one of the linked files, the others will remain. The storage will be released, when the last linked file has been deleted.

See this link: Six colors: the (hard) link between iPhoto and photo
