OptiPlex 755 CPU Upgrade
I did research on this during more than a week & my brain is mush.
My current setup 755 is
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
2 GB memory
Radeon HD 4650
160GB - Windows XP SP3/All current & updated updated drivers
1 TB SATA
2 TB SATA
BIOS - A22
I tried to see the fastest processor for this motherboard (OGM819 w/Q35 chipset). I found a ton of information, but no definitive answer. I think an E8400 is the fastest & in my price range. Yes 1a. What is the fastest CPU, can I go too? 1B. will be the stock radiator & power or will they need upgrade also? If so what power do I need? To add to this, I found a thread somewhere that said I might switch to a 64-bit CPU, is that OK & what would you recommend?
2 memory - the software I downloaded from Dell - "my Dell' States that I can spend to 8 GB, but looking further my current setup, 32-bit will only see 4 GB, correct? The only way to upgrade to 8 GB so via a 64 bit CPU, good again?
Why I do this. I'm ripping my Blu - ray collection to this pc which is now my HTPC. 3 TB seems huge, but not when you rip iso uncompressed. What I run, it's that I'm some of this isos to BD25 compression to save space, but the process takes up to 11 hours with the current configuration. Suggestion of any & all are extremely welcome. While my 755 is just sitting there I want to accelerate the process as much as I can.
Thank you in advance.

With a 64-bit operating system, 8 gb (4 x 2 GB modules) is supported.

OptiPlex 755 memory upgrade - which slots to use.
I just upgraded the memory on my Optiplex 755. He originally had 4 512M memory locations and I replaced two 512M sticks with 2 G sticks.
(Perhaps mistakenly), I put new memory in the slots of alternative, so that memory is now as:
1 2 DIMM
DIMM 3 512 M
2 2 DIMM
DIMM 4 512 MEverything seems to work OK.
Can someone advise please if this is the correct configuration and if the configuration is incorrect, there is a significant success in performance?
Thank you very much.

Hello I have a Dell Optiplex 745 and I'm looking to upgrade his CPU. I did searches for days check the specifications of the system and watching other messages from the forum. But nobody seems to have the same motherboard as me. My computer details are below. I want to upgrade to the best possible processor. Please be sure to go over the details and have an answer with certainty because I don't want to destroy my PC.

Greetings Andrewpleter4,
Fact some digging for you. Basically my documentation states that the Optiplex 745 supports Presler
series 9xx processors, as you already know since you use one. The thing important here in my opinion, it's that my documentation is wrong in any warning about not supporting any processor specific 9xx.I went to our list of Dell parts and found the part number: WM347 Presler P4 processor, 960, 3.6 G, 2 x 2 MB, FSB800, D0.
It seems that everything is the same as your 925, except the clock is higher. I am very confident that the 960 works in your system. This is the highest clocked processor taken Dell supported on the 745. You are the latest version of the BIOS, so you should be fine.
Please report if you have comments or questions about my answer.

Dell Optiplex 360 CPU Upgrade Qeuestion
Hello. I've owned a Dell Optiplex 360 Mini-Tower. I made a few updates already as a 500W what ATX PSU, 4 GB of RAM and a dedicated PCI-E graphics card but I want to upgrade the processor that comes with it. He is currently running an Intel Core 2 Duo Duo E7400 and I would like to an E8600. According to the service manual Dell Optiplex 360, it is the maximum CPU I can http://www.citgrup.ro/pdf/Calculatoare/Calculator_Dell_Optiplex_360MT_specificatii_tehnice_citgrup.pdf my question is should I also upgraded the heat sink housing / owner Dell fan or can I use the same one that came with my case? You want to make sure that I have no overheating issues as well and the heat sink is enough for this upgrade as this CPU is listed on the technical guide. Also, someone has done this before CPU update can give any feedback as well? Thank you.
They are the two Wolfdale so must use the same heatsink / fan of the case. Don't forget to clean the old paste and apply the new paste.

OptiPlex 755 processor upgrade
I'm looking for a few more years on the 755 that I use in my office and I have a few questions to upgrade. This is a minitower with a Q6600 processor configuration. Is there a chart that shows which processors can be used with the mobo 819 0GM? Any other series motherboards will fit the 755 chassis?
Table.
No other motherboards do not fit or work with the Ribbon on the front panel cable.
After the update to the latest version of the bios, I would say up to 45nm Q9650 for Mini lathe.
You will need to make sure you get PC6400 DDR2 Ram, if you do this.
UPDATE THE BIOS BEFORE trying to install a newer processor.
10/26/2011 2:11 AM 2239507 O755-A20.exe The Dell spec for the desktop version lists the Q6600, Q9450, and Q9550 CPUs.http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/opti_755_techspecs.pdf
The Q9650 has worked in my bios minitour A20.

What is the fastest dual-core and quad-core CPU OptiPlex XE SFF can handle with the heatsink of the stock and the stock PSU?
Motherboard: 01KD4V, Q45 Express
PSU: 280 wattDell technical guide lists E7400 bicoeur as the fastest CPU compatible (no quad-cores) but I see a lot of ads on eBay for OptiPlex XE with CPU E8400. This leads me to believe that the most recent BIOS (A05) supports CPU with FSB 1333 MHz.
I'm looking at the E8600 and Q9650 CPU in particular. I also see that the Q9550S is rated at 65 watts. I would like to know if one of these three CPUS can be used without problems of temperature or power as well as the E8400.
Thanks for reading!
See you soon,.
Jeff
E8600 and Q9550S, Q9650 were not tested by Dell on this model. I can show you what the Dell tested page the parts list for this model.
4HF4Y Wolfdale E5300 2.60 GHz, 2 MB, 65W, R0

Upgrade CPU OptiPlex 755?
I have an Optiplex 755 of sff with the q6600 and Im thinking about buying a mini tour with the q6600 as 755. I know that I can move to the q9650, q9550 or q9450, no problem. But what about the xeon x 3350, x 3360 x 3370 3380 x, x 3353, x 3363? Specifically the x 3363 because his 80w so I can use the hsf stock; and you can find them for really cheap.
I know that they are not officially supported by dell, but I saw references it will work online.
And it would be a possible upgrade being the q6600 2.4 ghz, 8 MB L2, 1066fsb, 105w. 3363 x is 2.83 ghz, 12 MB L2, 1333 fsb and 80w.
My PC is used for folding at home, General internet surfing and use htpc. I want just the processing power as much as possible of my old system.
@FATPHATBOY88
Recently installed a LGA 771 Xeon X 3363 CPU in one of my computers Dell Optiplex 755 with a LGA 771-to-775 adapter: http://valid.canardpc.com/dxczhe
Very happy because the 3363 X is faster than the Core 2 Quad Q9650 and the Xeon E5450 evaluated!

No POST after CPU Upgrade OptiPlex 755
Just try to upgrade CPU of my Dell OptiPlex 755 Celeron to Core 2 Quad 9650 430. After swapping CPU, CPU fan runs, light on the card mother and some long deep, but not post. Help, please.
Are you sure it's a CPU supported?
You upgrade to the latest version of the BIOS before you swapped processors?
Are you sure that it is positioned correctly in the socket?

CPU Upgrade for Optiplex 755 - Core 2 Quad?
Hey guys!
I have a Dell Optiplex 755 desktop computer. It's a SFF, and I picked up the recycling room in my office. It just need a HD fan, and it runs great. He got a Core 2 vPro 3.0 ghz in there at the moment, 4 MB of cache and FSB 1333.
It works well, but I would like to upgrade to a slightly faster processor and I am considering my options. I watched the fastest Core 2 Duo, I couldn't, and they offer only a 3.33 ghz, however, it's something like $350 dollars for the processor.
I started thinking maybe I should see what there is and realized that there is also the Core 2 Quad and the Extreeme of 2 Core that are available with one cache of FSB 1333 mhz, and PGA775 (or other).
I'm curious, but you guys don't know if it is possible to install a Core 2 Quad or a Core 2 Extreme in my Dell Optiplex 755? This PDF shows on Page 10 to take a Core 2 Quad. http://www.Dell.com/downloads/global/products/Optix/en/opti_755_techspecs.PDF
Which is the maximum that the BIOS will recognize / support? Can I use a QX6850?
Thank you guys!
Todd

Through the Optiplex 780, the chassis has remained the same - that said, you're better off buying a new (or a more recent version) upgrade of the system.
You will find all the systems in the range of $200-300 - not much more that it will cost for a single pension + CPU + RAM.

Is a processor upgrade Optiplex 755 worth the cost and effort?
I have a 755 core 2 duo 3 Ghz 1333 FSB running Windows 7.
Is the cost and effort to upgrade the processor to a quad core is worthwhile, given the age of the computer?
Would be a quad core overclocking more slowly or more slow FSB no improvement in speed over the 3 GHz Core 2.
Looking at eBay and amazon Q9650 (3 GHz) runs around $100, the Q9550 (2.83 GHz) about $75.
The slower Quad cores are $30 - $40, which I wouldn't mind if it makes a noticeable improvement.
Not sure I want to put another $100 in there, unless it's a very big improvement.
Thank you
You should see an improvement in performance, but I don't know how. On average, what is your current CPU usage in Task Manager? If it is maxed out at 100%, a large part of the time, moving to a quad core should offer a significant improvement. If it is 50-60% most of the time, maybe it's not that big of an improvement. Here is a list of media UC the OptiPlex 755:
3.00 GHz, Quad Core Yorkfield Q9650, 12MB
Yorkfield 2.83 GHz Quad Core Q9550 12 MB, 1333 MHz FSB, E0
2.66 GHz, Quad Core Yorkfield Q9400, 6Mo, 1333FSB, R0
2.66 GHz, Quad Core Kentsfield Q6700, 8 MB, 1066FSB, G0The Q9650 both the Q9550 should work in your machine. I hope this helps!

Video upgrade - business multi-screen on Optiplex 755 MT
People,
Please, let me share my upgrade of success a good end of the Dell Optiplex 755 MT for multi-monitor lease.
If you are looking to use a great system for companies, but want to add multiple monitors (which is fantastic for productivity), so this solution might be nice for you. And do graphics multi-monitor solution that works is easy and difficult at the same time! It's easy if all the material is known to work together! This note is therefore, on this topic.
* With the help of ATI over-pants 2450 in 16th housing PCI Express.
* Four monitors (via VGA or DVI adapters included) OVER the motherboard video still works!
* Updated the BIOS to the most recent.
* Note that this card works PCI 2.0, and it works in what is apparently a PCIe 1 location. on the MOBO 755 0 a. A 2.1 card may not work.
* This is for businesses and all five monitors work fine now, even with YouTube. This is not intended as a game environment.
* There are a few things to try in BIOS in terms of parameters - for a while, there was a mistake of memory and the thing wouldn't start - it took a little time to understand the exact configuration of he.
* WIndows 7 is the operating system used - and Windows Aero works.
* I'm not long seen accidents associated with old Jaton NVidia PCI cards that we used previously.
* The physical slot size are fine.
* Consumption looks very good.
* Cost of ITX Canada was about $250 more shipping, tax etc.
* Here's the Sapphire version of the AMD ATI card, which is very good.
* The AMD reference number is 100-505531.
Five monitors are not identical (three different geometries and two sellers)
* Device Manager lists the latest AMD video drivers for this card as installed and work - I am not quite clear if the drivers have been installed from the download, or later.
Actual installation was required for their persistence and a little hairy. When I reboot, I'll see all noting the exact BIOS settings.
* The system crashed not once now, in a week of constant availability, including browsers open 20 tablets or more periods and use of the physical memory of 80%.
* System 6 GB of RAM, running 64-bit and BIOS A22.
Good luck.

Upgrading OptiPlex 755/heatsink?
Hello. I am the proud owner of a Minitour Optiplex 755 (it's the largest, right?). I would exchange its current E8400 for a quad core CPU. I have yet to decide on which one, but my assumption is that all the quads would be hotter than a CPU dual core. I might be worth mentioning that the PC came originally with an E6750.
Since the Optiplex (mostly Dells?) using a heat sink assembly / fan non-standard Cpu, my question is this: Dell did use the same radiator/fans regardless of whether if the PC comes with a dual core or quad core CPU? Or do you have a heatsink / fan is enough to cool the dual AND Quad enough? OK, that's 2.
I looked online for a radiator that is specifically for a 755 with a quad core, but found only the standard one I currently have in my own 755.
Thank you.
Update the BIOS for the 755 is as A20 I think. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to update the BIOS BEFORE installing a cpu update.
High heat sinks performance on Optiplex towers have a copper heatpipe construction. The Low end ones are a block of aluminium extruded. Low range of Optiplex 755 minitower systems. Compatible part numbers: HR004, J7109, FW209, W5685, W6177
J9761 is the high end part copper.

Dell Optiplex 755 hard drive upgrade
I wanted to update my dell optiplex 755 (a second) by adding a new hard drive, it will suit the original (80 GB) and another to add, what type of hard drive I need to purchase, would need additional cables.
You get an APRICORN DRIVE WIRE and clone the old to the new, if it's a new empty hard drive.
You F12 boot the CD supplied with the kit and clone the old to the new drive.

Norton Ghost works up to 7 also. The latest version of acronis claims to work with windows 8. I love the thread in the car because you get a bootable CD and you do not have to install anything.
