  • Creation of Oracle ASM agent - collections allow the BONE?

If an agent has already been created for a given instance of Oracle and an agent has already been created for the host operating system that the Oracle instance is installed on, then creating a 3rd agent to monitor Oracle ASM on the same host, you are given the option of 'collections Enable OS' on the host operating system platform.

It is not clear to me that the impact is to select Yes or no here, given that I've already created other officers. Does anyone have any idea on this?

    Thank you.

It seems that in your case the operating system is already be montiored so you don't need to create the home screen again. If you enable it, it will create another agent of the OS.

  • Need help for Oracle ASM

    Hello Experts,

My name is Rohan and I work as an Oracle DBA now, I fell on the ASM and I want to learn it.

I have a knowledge base of Oracle ASM and I also configured/created an instance using DBCA.

Now for the best understanding I want to create the same with the command line.

Everyone please give me the great tutorial for the same?

I'm using oracle 11.2.0.3 on windows.

    Thanks in advance.

CREATE DATA base should be with the ORACLE_SID set to the desired database SID, not the SID of the DSO.  Also, if you have (as in 11 g) two separate ORACLE_HOMEs for the ASM and the database, the DATA CREATE database must be run ORACLE_HOME database.

Dbms_metadata can help and if you have EM (GC or CC), which has a nice, create like option, may help as well.

Can someone point me to a doc that says that Oracle ASM 11.2.0.1.0 is NOT supported on Linux (Red Hat) 6.5?   I looked and looked, but can't this particular doc.

Is Oracle ASM 11.2.0.4 supported Linux (Red Hat) 6.5?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello

Thanks for your reply. I'm not an Oracle client. I'm just a student, try to install it and learn Oracle.

In this case I suggest you use 11.2.0.1 database on OEL 5.7/5.8

  • Oracle ASM or not?

    Hi all!

I just read document VMware, titled "Oracle Database on VMware best practices Guide"... It is a very good document, but I wonder why it only addresses configuration using Oracle ASM database.

I understand that for better flow, it would be preferable to use ASM...

(I also understant as raw device mapping is the best configuration for performance - BUT I certainly would not recommend using RDM for the complexity of management he added..).

It seems simple to implement ASM here because of responsibilities (sysadmins vs s/n).

    So my question is:

1 - at - it someone * NOT * using DSO for their Oracle on VMware database successfully?

What I mean by that, no instance ASM, data files on VMFS file system...

2 - does anyone actually measured the performance difference (between ASM and DO NOT ASM use)?

    3. I know that it is recommended as a best practice (for the best flow) to separate online redo logs and data files - but not really NOT bad to do?

In other words, how is harm to merge the logs with data files.

    All thoughts/references are welcome...

    Jocelyn

    See https://community.oracle.com/message/12273470#12273470

1 & 2: ASM or non - difference performance wise is not that big

2 - reasons to log files & data separate are for caching of the locations (i.e. EMC Fast Cache) & recovery.

  • Cloning of Oracle ASM disks

    Hello

We will virtualize a server physical Linux having an Oracle ASM database.  The physical server will remain intact and the new will be virtual under test.  How to meet the LUNS / volumes on which the DSO has database of data?  I guess we can clone them via SAN, but do not know what's next on the virtual server.

    Thank you very much.

Since you are using ASM, the SPFILE is also the ASM.  You will need to clone the operating system disks, trees and ASM software and introduce them to the VM Oravcle.  This will give you admin/diag directories as well as password files.  The TNS files and the listener must exist as well.

On the oracle VM, start the listener.  Then start ASM.  You need perhaps to remove localconfig and localconfig add tips to clear clusterware and reset the ASM.  When you start ASM, if the ASM mount is the same, the asm_diskstring shall not be changed.  He should see the clone disks ASM and climb very well, otherwise change the asm_diskstring to indicate where are the disks ASM, ASM bounce and they are expected to rise.

Once the DSO is started and starts up, you should be able to start the database without any problems.

  • Oracle ASM, SAN and VMware

    Hello

I have a question about using Oracle ASM. If I only have a single physical disk of SAN (2 disks mirrored) IO isolated for an Oracle VM is there anywhere in the ASM application in file system VMs by creating several virtual disks to support ASM so everything is still really only to access physical disks? It's the first time that I have to do an Oracle VM install and I want to ensure that the directors have the info just to set up the DB.

I see it's #14 tip in the doc of advice Essentiual deployment using Oracle ASM, but it says nothing about the assumptions... for example: is there more than one physical disk? I think the DBA doesn't want to bother with ASM as there is only a single physical disk under this virtual machine, but we are in a virtual world now and I think that the same would be true for a physical server are necessarily the case for a virtual.

    Thank you

You only have a drive and a 100 MB database?   In this case, ASM is probably an extra layer of complexity which is not necessary.

ASM is much more suited for the dissemination of data piles of many, and in cases where the management of database space is a consideration.

  • Resize the space Oracle ASM

    Hello

My use of oracle ASM database, I use the storage of DATA (data files and Archives...). my storage autour to be complete, so I want to add the new storage space (new hard disks).

So my question... on the side DBA is, something needs to be done? new hard drive then added to the disk group as fdisk? or the space will automatically be added to the total space?

My storage admin told me that it can re-size space on its side without doing anything on my side as a DBA, a problem this way? again is the same as for an old hard drive.

    Please advice,

    Kind regards
    Awad Awad

    There are two options.

    1. your store admin can expand a LUN, and then you can resize the ASM drive in the extra space.
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/server.112/e18951/asmdiskgrps.htm#sthref282

    2. your store admin can give you another logic unit number. When you add this logic unit number to a diskgroup, ASM will automatically use and therefore to increase the size of the diskgroup.

My preference is #2. It of less work and less risk.

  • Oracle ASM rebalancing Exchange rowid?

    Hi all.

The BP is 11.2.0.3 on a linux machine.

I use ASM for storage management.

When oracle ASM rebalancing occurs, change the rowid of lines?
In my production environment, some modules of the application depend on lines rowid.

    Have a wonderful day.
    Best regards.

    Hello

When oracle ASM rebalancing occurs, change the rowid of lines?

No, the load balancing is Zaribat by moving data files extensions IE (synonymous with the BONE blocks) of ASM units of other volumns physical allocation within the same diskgroup to make the data spread across all volumes in a balanced way. It has nothing to do with the ROWID and you shouldn't worry about this.

  • Oracle ASM support without installing ASMlib in Oracle11g r2 RAC

    Dear experts,

We want to use the Oracle ASM for Oracle11g r2 RAC.

Partitions raw storage (SAN) shared can support for ORACLE ASM for storage of OCR, voting and DATABASE and LOGS of ARCHIVING?

    In Oracle10g RAC
ASM is capable of referencing of discs as raw devices or using the ASMLib software.

Is any alternative for ASMLib in Oracle11g CARS or that mandatory!

Please help clear the understanding of Oracle ASM with Oracle11g r2 RAC.

From raw devices 11 g is not supported for the storage of the OCR + vote but you can present the raw devices for ASM. in 11 GR 2 OCR and voting can be stored in ASM

    Hope this helps

  • Make Oracle ASM is supported via the Protocol of the TCPS?

    Hello

Make Oracle ASM is supported via the Protocol of the TCPS? The connectivity of the ASM is supported via SSL connection? I'm not able to get documents appropriate for this setting. Could you help me find the configuration related to this?

    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards

    Bjoern Rost says:
I have no idea what TCPS is supposed to be, and I don't know why you would want to use SSL when connecting to an instance of the DSO. ASM communication takes place between an instance of Oracle (database) and an instance of the ASM on the same host, and I simply don't understand why you would want to encrypt it.

    Agree with that.

The ASM and the database are always on the same host. They communicate with each other directly through a CRS daemon.
It is NOT possible to have the ASM remotely on another server. Discussions about protocols is therefore not useful

  • Oracle ASM on Windows

I think I have I need help to get my right to ASM storage. Recently I changed businesses and the new place is a House of Windows, so Oracle databases are all on 2008 R2 machines. I run Oracle RAC on both physical and virtual before, but only in Linux/Unix environments (up to now, I still prefer) so I'm still learning some of the ins and outs. This company seeks also to travel to the RAC, ASM is in the mix. To start my tests, I have implemented an ASM instance for a single host that will eventually become a pole of development taking into multiple databases. However, before I set up data bases, the host is locked up. I think it has something to do with the configuration of the disk, because while the entrapment took place while the virtual machine is idling, several crashes occurred when I try to drop a disc from the asmca utility. I followed the Oracle documentation for Windows platforms, but this documentation does not offer overview of storage on vmware virtualization.

    Here is my configuration:

    VMware: vSphere 5.5

    OS: Windows 2008 R2 Standard

    Memory: 12G

    Storage: OS: 60G; ASM: 20G, 5G, 5G

Oracle Grid: 11.2.0.4 (more January 2014 CPU)

Oracle database: 11.2.0.4 (more January 2014 CPU)

Other details (perhaps important, perhaps not):

    (1) I have a large pages activated

    (2) drives are supplied thin. Note, I always thick-stocked my ASM, but our admin SR records. HE made a policy that all disks must be supplied thin for efficiency. I don't know if this could cause a problem.

    (3) the 3 ASM disks are running using the paravirtualized SCSI driver

    (4) the host also has an OEM 12 c Agent installed and running.

I'm new on the Windows platform when it comes to Oracle (I managed a lot of SQL Server DBs), blocks do not appear to produce any type of data in the logs.

Just for someone who comes across this post on the forum, update the ESET software kept interfering with the DSO, so I'm back in business. In response to the previous notice, I am the first full-time, home s/n they hired, and what I learned to work with is regardless of the parade of consultants put in place in recent years. Sometimes you gotta work with what you have. It's kinda a mess overall, to say the least, but I'm slowly getting it resolved. Linux is in the cards, but not in this series of changes.

  • Oracle ASM normal, high and external redundancy

    Hello

I have some doubts in the levels of normal, high, and external redundancy in the concept of the DSO.

External - any group fail. No mirroring.

Normal - two way mirror. Group of failure.

Top - three way mirror. Group of two failed.

    1. I hope that my understanding on above mentioned 3 types in good.

    2. my main question is what is the minimum number of disks required for the establishment of normal and external redundancy disk group? We cannot create disk group with the members of a single disc?

    Kind regards

    007

Normal - two way mirror. Group of failure.

Top - three way mirror. Group of two failed.

This is false. You need at least two failure for normal and three groups of failure for high redundancy.

By default, each disk or logical unit number is a group of default, but you can also add more drives to the same group of interlacing of the installation failure. The configuration depends on material available, disk space requirements and the needs of redundancy. ASM provides redundancy between groups of failure.

Remember that ASM is not disk mirror. It is not RAID. ASM from mirrors of the level and allocation of file units. He knows about Oracle database files and can therefore use optimum and variable block sizes based on the patterns of files. You can add and remove disks to reconfigure your drive grouips online without having to re - initialize your storage, which you can not do with RAID or external redundancy.
