Oracle Rac on San storage

Hello

We are at the heart of the definition of a process for installation of 2 node to a san storage device.  Oracle 11.2 on Rhel 5.

What is the process of implementation recommended for shared storage.

We want the mirroring to stay at the storage level.

* NFS without ASM

* NFS with ASM

* LUN with ASM

* LUN without ASM

All other as appropriate.

I went through the documentation, it gives options, however, does not tell best practices.

Thanks in advance everybody and apologize if there is already a post about this and I repeat it.

The only choice, I will focus on what is LUN (fiber or Infiniband fabric layer) with the ASM.

And no ASMLib. (optional, not required)

Set the devices property LUN via udev. Configure logical device for ASM using MPIO.

I'm going to call any other method, below.

    Hello Experts,

I design an implementation for RAC Oracle 11 g 2 on AIX 6.1 with IBM's SAN storage. My drawing do not include Oracle ASM, I know, it is recommended to use Oracle ASM, but my purpose is not included

I read the Guide of Installation of Oracle Grid Infrastructure and I have below questions about storage configurations:

    1. do I need a special configuration to replace the DSO?
    2. is it compulsory to use HACMP (IBM's Clustering solution) because I don't use ASM? Since based on the infrastructure Grid section 3.2 Installation guide (the Storage Configuration shared): [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e17210/storage.htm] there is a section 3.2.7 "Configuration HACMP multinode disk Heartbeat (MNDHB) for Oracle Clusterware" so my question is it is mandatory to use HACMP if I don't want to use ASM?
    3. in the same above installation guide, mentioned in section 3.2.8 that "to use the raw logical volumes for Oracle Clusterware, HACMP must be installed and configured on all nodes in a cluster." what is raw logical volumes? is it compulsory to use it? Since I'm not on ASM?
4 installation guide, in sections 3.2.3 to sections 3.2.9 are these prerequisites sections sections 3.2.10 to 3.2.15? or I can simply ask section 3.2.10 to 3.2.15 without applying 3.2.3 to 3.2.9?

    One last Question:

ASM is integrated with the cluster software, do a separate license or license the license of the ASM cluster cover?

    Kind regards

    Hello Levi,

the information provided is very useful. But what I heard in the installation guide network infrastructure that the raw device needs HCMP while GPFS need not of HACMP, GPFS is a cluster provided by IBM file system.
    Your input please?

    Hello

Raw disk device (RD) is the LUN (disk) storage mapped on AIX.
Raw logical volume (RLV) is the LUN (device) created the LVM of AIX.

If you use devices of raw disk that you don't need HACMP, because AIX (core) has only receive instructions from Oracle to read and write, AIX does not support concurrency control in the raw disks, this control is managed by Oracle.

If you use raw logical volumes (CLVM) HACMP must be installed and configured on all nodes in the cluster, volume logic is a feature of AIX (IBM) to enable simultaneous mode, you install HACMP, Oracle not manage concurrency control because Oracle does not know that there is an LVM behind.

You are right, that the new version of GPFS are usable without HACMP.

  • Oracle RAC and replacement of equipment

    Hello world

next year our Oracle RAC (hardware) servers will be is more supported. We have a 2 node RAC (SE) running on Linux 5. For you, what is the strategy easier (and safer) to replace the equipment:

    • Reinstall complete with database exports / imports.
    • Adding new nodes to the cluster with new servers and delete 'old' (but it seems that the same version of operating system is required in accordance with the documentation).
    • Clone of the cluster according to the Oracle documentation on news servers.

Thank you for all your ideas. I googled a bit, but I've not found much info.

    Carlos.

    • Adding new nodes to the cluster with new servers and delete 'old' (but it seems that the same version of operating system is required in accordance with the documentation).

It's what I strive for. If your time with new nodes in the cluster is short (less than 24 hours), and you stay on the same distribution (i.e. OL5 to OL7), then several times, this isn't a problem. If you still have concerns and do not feel comfortable with this recommendation, then I'll recommend another avenue. I often used it when I was doing something similar for the production system was too critical to take no risk.

    1. Up new servers in a cluster. You can even start with the version of grid Infrastructure more later/more big who can save a future update maybe you.

      1. It will take a new OCR and voting disk new configuration.
    2. Attach the storage shared on the new cluster. For a short period of time, you will have storage mounted to both old and new.
    3. Install the RDBMS software on the new cluster. Wear on all the config files you might need more... tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora, etc..
    4. When you are ready to drop the database on the old cluster, cutting on the new cluster.
    5. Use "srvctl database add" to add the database to the new cluster.
    6. Use 'srvctl add instance' to add the instances to the new cluster.
    7. (Optional but normally a good idea), use 'srvctl add service' to add services to the new cluster.
      1. Steps 5 and 6 above usually use the same name of db, same instance names, same service name.
    8. You now have the database running on the new hardware. Stop the old servers

The only other sticking point would be handling the SCAN and traditional VIP. When I made this drive, I usually my network guy change the SCAN VIP and traditional dignitaries to be alias in DNS that point to the new VIP.

If you do your homework and have everything ready to go, the downtime can be less than 15 minutes for this approach.

    See you soon,.

  • Oracle RAC (physically separate buildings)

    Hello

I would like to know who already had this experience to prepare an Oracle RAC in separate buildings.

We have two data centers, and we intend to prepare two separate nodes physically in this building (each node in one building).

Data centers are in the same city.

    Could this be possible?

    Thank you!

This looks like an extended cluster, alias "stretched CARS." It's a reasonably normal environment, although there are some considerations. You'll need storage on each side with ASM mirror and a third independent unit (a NFS server is good) for a copy of the file with the right to vote. A 10 GHz ethernet link should be more than enough. If you need assistance configuring her, let me know

  • How to install Oracle RAC using GR 11, 2 on Win 7 32 bit from scratch?

    HIII,

    I am a cool and I have a win 7 32 bit with oracle 11 g 2 system.

I want to install RAC with two servers or more, but I don't know too much about.

I tried searching on google but all they give information into pieces (for win 7) or Linux on (please tell me why its all Linux everywhere not Windows).

Please let me know if there is a site where I can find installation step by step from scratch.

What are the basic requirements (/ software if necessary).

    Thank you.

    Hello

Firstly forget Windows! Oracle is mainly designed for Linux systems. Oracle as a true process runs multiple on the Linux machines while under Windows, it runs as a single process with multi-thread.

Using memory - huge pages, single CPU run queue, drop-outs, storage... etc are a lot of concepts.

Also Windows is one of the most poorly designed operating systems, you must use only for watching movies of cute kitten on youtube... Believe me, you don't want to learn Oracle on Windows...

Install virtualbox and then configure Oracle Enterprise Linux on it at first... By the way you have to deal with the DNS server of version 11.X, RAC, you can start with 10g for now.

ORACLE-BASE has all the installation steps explained detailly, search for "oracle rac install base" on google.

I also explained on my blog, but it is a little more advanced installation by using the ZFS storage Simulator. The DNS server installation is also explained: http://ilkertaysi.com/2013/11/11/oracle-rac-installation-with-zfs-storage/

  • SAN storage for db to single instance on Windows

    Hello

We plan to install Oracle 11 g 2 (11.2.0.3) EA (no CARS) on Windows Server 2008 R2. A SAN storage has been attached
    and 4 LUNs created.

R: unit number logic of database and data files
    B: LUN Redo logs
    C: MON control files
    D: LUN Archive Log Files

I remember well, the DBCA asks for the location of the data files and of the newspapers to check-in at the time of the creation. Thus, the storage location for
the redo log files and control files must be configured later if I'm not mistaken?

    Thanks for your comments!

Yes - you can reconfigure location if necessary after creation of the database - or anytime actually!

  • Oracle RAC ASM issues SQLLoader

One of our clients wants to use Oracle RAC ASM for our application, I just want to know if there will be transactions of validation in two phases and SQL * Loader broadcasts in ASM.

    Oracle 10 g database is

ASM works only at the level of the storage layer and has nothing to do with:
    -the distributed transactions
-executable client that connects to the database instance: SQL * Loader, SQL * Plus, etc.

RAC has also nothing to do with distributed transactions: a RAC database is a single database with multiple instances, but always a single database; There is no need to use distributed transactions because you have a RAC database.

  • Installing Oracle RAC: Unix, Windows ASM nodes

I have a question about the Oracle RAC configuration. I never did no prior installation RAC or ASM. Maybe a stupid question to some of you.

Is it possible to install Oracle RAC with following options?

2 node RAC with Sun Solaris
Shared storage using ASM in Windows server

Any additional information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

In very simple terms, when using ASM, database server process read the CRUDE device and process DBWR write devices ROUGH containing tablespace information. With ASM, these processes simply ask ASM 'where the disk read/write. Therefore, ASM provides simply a "table of contents". (It is much more than that, but this seems to be a good way to start the discussion.)

ASM MUST run on the same computer as the database instance that is to use it.

In your scenario, the Windows computer may be Server iSCSI providing raw devices to Solaris machines. These devices would then be managed by ASM and reading/praav1s directly by database processes.

  • NFS supports Oracle RAC with TAF?

    Hello

NFS does support Oracle RAC with TAF function. ?

If so, please point to a valid document to prove the same thing.

    Concerning
    Sumit

TAF so nothing to do with the underlying and is storage architecture 'argued' with your choice of asm, raw devices, cluster file system and NFS. NFS is supported on some platforms. For more details, check the tab certifies in metalink. Some information can be found here

TAF will be available on any rac installation, but not all drivers support it (thin jdbc for example)

  • Turning to Oracle RAC to the only Oracle database

    Hi all

We are responsible for "make a copy" of Oracle RAC database a customer and our plan is to finish with the FCAC and allows you to host a new unique Oracle database. Very few of us familiar with CARS and looking for suggestions on how to do it (without affecting the source JAR).

Can take a full expdb of the source database and simply use impdp to import into the standalone database server?

    Comments/suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Can take a full expdb of the source database and simply use impdp to import into the standalone database server?

It is an option. Data pump does not care if the source and/or destination is CARS or a mix. If the database is too large, it can take a lot of time to complete.

Another option is to use the DOUBLE of RMAN feature. And another option is to restore the database from a backup.

  • Redo command of journal online in Oracle RAC

    Dear,

If I have 2 Oracle RAC nodes:

Node 1:2 Online Redo log groups (Group 1 and group 2) - each Member of a group

Node 2:2 Online Redo log groups (Group 3 and group 4) - each Member of a group

Would like to know when the switch occurs on the redo log groups, it moves the Group 1 to group 2, then return in the Group 1... or

Group 1 to group 2, and group 3?

    Concerning

    Claude

Each Instance has a Thread.  So the Instance on node 1 has 1 wire that consists of groups 1 and 2.  Redo all written by instance of node 1 will always be to groups 1 and 2 only.  Never to groups 3 and 4 (except if they fell and added to 1 thread)

Similarly, the instance on node 2 will write for groups 3 and 4 only.

  • Oracle RAC

    Hello

We have an Oracle RAC (11.1.0.7) with two active nodes on AIX 5. We plan to build a third node, working as a passive node.

    This is may be possible?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Yes, you can add the third node to the cluster and keep it operational without any purpose. As Richard-1 mentioned, it is best to offer 3-node RAC and extend services through them. Unless you want a kind of DR? Having said that what you try to achieve?

    Hello

A CCR node does not mean that you install the grid infrastructure in a single node and install a base of a RAC data on this node.

Basically, a concept CAR is similar to active passive clustering to provide high availability. To have a node database RAC upward and launched, you will have to install clusterware on at least two server by selecting the option during the installation of the IM.

Pls follow the below post for detailed answer
