OS can not find Gigastore external HARD disk.

Hello
I have a problem with my new Gigastore external HARD drive.
I have a windows 2000 and the operating system can not find the Gigastore external HARD disk.
One of the systemrequires is that it is compatible with Windows 2000.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely
Luis

You don't give much info.
I would first go in "Device Manager" and check that there is not a question mark with "unknown device" beside him. If this is the case, highlight it and delete it, unplug your HARD drive and restart your computer. Check the Device Manager again, you will need to repeat the process without the connected HARD drive. Then follow the instructions of the manufacturer install the driver. In some cases, you will need to plug it in the first place, in others, first install the driver. The order is important.

    Hello ShamedMonkey,

Thank you for your message.  The problem you are having is because of differences in formatting between PC and Mac.  You can, however, transfer your files between the two.  I will set out what must be done under and limitations of each.
First, you will need to format the drive on your PC.  When you format the PC, you can format it in FAT32 or NTFS.
(You mentioned that you do not see the drive in the computer) To format drive:
Click 'Start' > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.
    Click on "disk management".
In the right pane, you should see your drive > you can then do a right click and 'format '.
    FAT32:
This format will allow you to easily transfer files between the two.  This format becomes problematic when you transfer files more than 4 G.  There is a limit of 4 GB in FAT32, etc. of many movies are bigger than that and cannot be transferred using this format.
    NTFS
This format has no size limitation, however, in its normal state it will be 'Read only' on Mac.  If you will not be able to transfer all the data itself.  While doing some research on the web, it seems that you can use a program called MacFuse on your Mac to change to NTFS files.  I have not confirmed this, but you can give it a try.  If this program works as planned, it would be the way to go.
Please let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.

I do not use homegroups, but 'true' to share, so I don't know how this is supposed to work with homegroups. But usually he should share a drive or folder, first before you can access it from another machine. (for example, click on the drive/folder properties and go to the sharing tab)

  • I can't find my external hard drive

    Hello

I have a drive hard new, not used externally. It has its own drive system and goes into USB.

A friend got for me (he knows computers!), it's a drive hard there, for which he bought coverage.

He says that it's compatible pc and mac and my friend tested, and it worked on his windows pc. He said all I had to do was of gives it so it would be mac compatible.

Today, I wanted to do, but I can't drive anywhere on my macbook! It does not appear in the disk utility, or anywhere else that I checked.

So I thought maybe it was automatically conferted in windows format, when my friend plugged to test. Who is right why I tried my husbands laptop windows-computer, so maybe I could set up here to something my macbook can read. But the disc is nowhere on my husbands laptop as well!

The hard disk is turned on, the little green light says it's on...

What can I do to find it?

p.s. I'm still under OSX 10.6 (this is why I need it. I want to back up my documents before updating to the new OSX)

    Thank you!

    Jelka

If the external hard drive is not readable by a Mac or a PC, then it is either corrupted or it has not been partitioned and formatted yet.

Because it is not found in disk utility, I think at this point it is the first and will not be usable. However, if it worked on your friend's PC, told format to FAT32. You should then be able to access it with disk utility and reformat in HFS + for your Mac.

  • Can not backup on external hard drive - "snapshot could not be created...» »

Cannot back up the external hard drive "snapshot could not be created, please check the VSS application log and the PSP" "details - the shadow copy provider had an error" error code «ox81000019» I want to buy a new laptop, but how can I transfer all of the existing computer if I can't do a backup?

As you go only to transfer data from one to the other files, here's a good option...

Remove the old hard drive and connect it on the new computer using a USB to SATA connector like this...

    http://www.TigerDirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3276554&CATID=11527

It is a very useful device to have some kicking around when you need to get data on a drive that does more boot.

You must get permission to access folders on the old disk to the new computer and this is how you do it.

Download the zip on the site below...

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/add-take-ownership-to-Explorer-right-click-menu-in-Vista/

.. and it is there that find the link to the zip on the site...

When you run the zip file, it places a new item in the right click menu called 'Take Ownership'

To use it, you highlight the file or the folder on which you want the property, right click and select take ownership.

Then a window will appear and many data authorizations through pretty quickly. When permissions have been granted, the window will close and you will be able to easily access data in the file or the first selected folder...

  • User with limited XP Home Edition privleges can not access an external hard drive

I can't set up an external hard drive in Windows XP Home Edition so that a user who has 'Limited' privleges can access.  The user receives the access denied message.  I tried to configure this by starting in safe mode.  I shared the unit with everyone.  If I'm the administrator user then it can access the drive.  The troubling question is that this system has been configured with the user having limited privleges as well as access to the external drive in the past.  I recently removed Norton antivirus and replaced by MS Security Essentials and I'm so glad I did.  But now it's problem arose.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You probably just need to change permissions for access of the disk and/or subfolders.  The following article describes how to do this:

"How to set, view, change, or remove special permissions for files and folders in Windows XP"

The bad news is that this article was written for XP Pro and you have XP Home.  This means that the 'Security' tab, which is at the heart of the management of permissions is not present during the implementation of the properties of file or a folder on your computer. (Or y at - it an option to disable Simple file sharing).  The good news is that if you start your computer in safe mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when your computer starts) and log on as a user with administrator privileges, you can then obtain access to the security"" tab.  Once you have access to this tab, you can give "Everyone" permission to all of the disk if you wish.  Once you set the permissions as you like them, you can restart your machine in Normal mode.

  • Find my external hard disk Firefox profile?

My old laptop was damaged, but I managed to save my hard drive. Now I have this hard drive is connected as an external drive to a new computer. I need to restore my old profile bookmarks. However, when I type %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in the search (Windows 7) it looks only in the C drive. How can I find the profile folder and especially the places.sqlite file on the external hard drive containing the data recorded on the damaged computer?

  • Can not find why the startup disk is almost full

I got the message "Boot disk almost full" and began to go through the folders. I did an EEG info on my user folder and it says 240gig, my drive is only 250 gig. But when I go through each subfolder that I can't find anything even close to that of grand. I deleted everything that I don't need but can't find where this huge amount of file space is used.

Simple answer - don't count on the Finder.

The Finder hides just pieces of the file system that are not relevant for most users.

When there is only a big gap between what the OS reports is used (240GB) and what you see in the Finder, is most often due to some errant logging process that fills the system logs, with mostly useless data.

You can view the logs (and other 'hidden' data) using the Finder go-> go to folder... menu and entering: / var

You can also use /Applications/Utilities/Console.app to view the logs to see if you can identify what process is at fault.
