Outcome of recovery Dell USB Direct

I got a new XPS 13 (9343 - early 2015) and played with Windows 10. Before playing with 10 Windows, I created a USB recovery in Windows 8.1. When you attempt to restore I get an error message indicating that the recovery environment has been corrupted.

I've reached out to Dell and then sent me on USB recovery media. When starting the Dell USB, it goes directly to standard instead of going to the Dell Restore interface and recovery Windows 8 Installation screen, as shown in their video.

When you attempt to install using the standard installer of Windows 8 it you cannot install over the existing partitions. I could erase all partitions and start from scratch but I would go back to "factory condition".

No idea why the Dell Direct USB is not Dell restore and recovery as shown in their videos and FAQ?

Thank you

MOSI

MOSI,

I just had the same experience!

the answer from dell as below:

Q. is the key USB Direct from Dell available for all systems?
A. Click here to check taken computer platforms supported.

http://www.Dell.com/support/article/au/en/aubsd1/SLN179156/en

According to this link only the dell technical support can tell you if this modal ha a key usb supported. So, based on my internal information the XPS 9343 has not a USB direct with the features above

I guess we just have to wait for the Live usb to create XPS13 2015, perhaps after the windows 10 be released? No matter the media certainly does not justify the price tag of the lighthouse.

see you soon

I was not able to complete the full implementation of the solution Dell Direct USB key due to various problems.  .    Dell ended up sending me a new Windows 7 HARD disk image.   I have now the laptop up and running again with Windows 7 and have various applications installed.   That's all pretty well.  But now how do I get my data files restored?   Basically, I want to connect the external drive to backup and complete step 19 of the solution, as described below.

Here are the steps OS using the Dell USB key:

    1. Boot from the Direct USB Key by tapping F12 at the Dell logo, then select the
USB Memory Key option from the boot device menu.

    2. Accept the Dell End User License Agreement (EULA) by clicking the box next to
Accept, scroll down till the end of the license agreement and then click on
    continue.

    3. On this screen, the usb key gives an overview of the process it is about to
perform, click continue when ready to proceed.

    4. The Smart Repair solution runs a surface scan on the system to identify any
errors with the boot record or the startup files. If any errors are found, they
    are automatically corrected.

    5. Once the process completes, there will be an analysis summary, in this case,
there is no issue found by the smart repair, click continue.

    6. In this window the user can select what data they would like to back up, they
can either go with the default backup solution or they can click select more to
select more files for backup, click continue after selecting files for backup.

    7. If user clicks on select more, they will get the screen below, they can go
ahead and select the necessary data for backup by checking the box next to the
respective folder, sub-directories are selected by default once the root folder
    is selected.

    8. The user will be prompted to attach a USB hard drive to the system, user
needs to connect the USB Hard drive at this point and click continue.

    9. Once the solution detects the USB hard drive , it goes ahead with file
    backup.

    10. Once the files are backed up, the solution will back up the user personal
    settings.

    11. The Direct USB Key displays a summary of the data and personal settings
    backup. Click continue.

    12. The Direct USB key then proceeds to install the operating system image on
    the system.

    13. Once the operating system image is transferred, the drivers are also
    transferred.

    14. After the operating system image and driver transfer, a summary page comes
up giving the user information as to what process was performed successfully and
what failed. The user needs to remove the USB key at this point and click
    restart.

    15. The system restarts and comes to a flash screen on recovery and restore.

    16. After the flash screen, the applications start installing.

    17. Once the applications are installed, the user would see a summary screen
informing them that the Operating system has been restored, connect the Direct
    USB Key and click restart.

    18. After the restart the user will be prompted to connect the data backup hard
    drive and then click continue.

    19. The files and personal settings are then restored from the USB backup drive.

    20. After the files are transferred the system comes to the desktop with a pop
up window informing the user to check the device manager for any exclamation
marks, the tool also guides the user to download the drivers from the support
site and the applications from My Dell Downloads and Dell Digital Delivery. User
needs to select the check box to prevent the message from being displayed again
    and click close.

  • Problems with Dell USB - C (DA200) to the HDMI, VGA, RJ45, USB3 adapter

    Hi all

    I guess I'm a little desperate at 01:45 haha...

I just got my XPS 13 9350 and it's great. I bought the USB - C DA200 adpater USB3, RJ45, VGA, HDMI. Unfortunately, I have some difficulty with the device. They are listed below:

    (1) plug, computer does not recognize the device. If I right click and uninstall in Device Manager and do a scan 'new material', it works again - but not for long.

    (2) the device and the Realtek gigabit portion to connect and reconnect every second in Device Manager and it's annoying.

    (3) disabling the wireless card/connection really seems to help the unit to connect and it works 100%. ONLY when the wireless adapter is disconnected.

Basically, windows is to have a real time hard keep this adapter plugged... almost as if he can't recognize it. I tried to install the drivers for the card - nothing. I've updated all the firmware from Dell crush (including the chipset) and the BIOS... nothing. Same thing. If you do a search on google, there are a few discussions on this problem. There is a nice size on Reddit.

Someone has an idea, what happens? It's a real shame that a beautifully designed and expensive adapter does not work with a Dell computer.

    Thank you, AJ

In another thread ("XPS 13 9350 - SSD USB C 3.1 - very unstable/not usable '-I can not add links), the following fixed my XPS 13 9550 problem using a drive HARD USB 3.0 with the Dell USB - C for HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB3.1 adapter:

... the adapter USB - C and WiFi are kind of material and power wise. If you go to the options of the advance of the WiFi adapter and change the WiFi output at 75%, this solves a lot of problems with the connection / disconnection of USB - C questions. Exit at 75% reduction does not affect your connection on wireless networks.

My HARD drive kept connect/disconnect when you use the adapter, but this correction took care of her.

  • Installation hangs at the backup data when reinstalling Win8 recovery Dell & restore USB

I need to clean and reinstall Windows 8.1 because the administrator password has been lost, no password recovery disk is available and that newspapers now only machine in the guest account and you can't run the Dell recovery and restore from a guest account without login as administrator

We have no data that needs backup machine is assigned to a new person in the company and we don't need all the programs installed, so we bought the Dell OS recovery and restore USB of the machine with the conviction that it would restore the first day.

I was informed that the version of Windows that will be restored is 8.0 and then require the upgrade again after... no problem

  • Run Dell Windows 8 recovery on USB support?

Hello! I have a Dell 15r and recovery for Windows 8 on DVD media.

I wish I could install Windows 8 (UEFI) from a USB key. I tried the usual methods (Microsoft and also some tools 3rd party to create a bootable USB support), but I had different types of errors. It seems that the image is not compatible with these methods.

  • HP 2000-2b09WM Notebook PC: Recovery DVD/USB for HP 2000 - 2b09WM, laptop, 320 GB hard drive.

    Greetings.

I want to restore my laptop HP 2000 - 2b09WM to factory settings, using a restore disk drive or USB.

Where can I find the disc, iso image or file?

I can't find on the site of HP, although I found it there before.

The best solution is to download an image of a DVD, burn myself.

The next best is to get the HP recovery disk, I can't seem to find it.

    Thank you.

    RCline7

    Hello

    There are two options available.

    1. you can order a set of replacement of the recovery media using the link below - it will reinstall the operating system, all the drivers, and almost all of the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office).  They will also recreate all of the original scores, including the recovery Partition.

    Order HP recovery disks.

Note:  If the link above does not work (it is not for me at the moment), try calling HP directly.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

2 another option would be to download the Image of Windows 8 on the following link - Note this Image file is subject to a ceiling of download, you may need to try over a period of a few hours before the download starts correctly.

    https://docs.Google.com/file/d/0B0W9PBigPy94aVJWSndyTFNFMzg/edit?PLI=1

Use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn offerings) to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here.

If you instead create a flashdrive bootable for this Image, try the free app below.

    http://Rufus.AKEO.IE/

The product key for Windows 8 is encrypted in your bios chip and read automatically during installation.

Software extra and you may need drivers are by entering your full model number or Nr here.

  • Hard drive does not start after the use of the recovery on USB Manager

The hard drive on HP G62t - 350 CTO Notebook to my newphew failed. I could create a USB recovery in the Recovery Manager. I installed a new 120 GB SSD. The original hard drive was bigger, do not remember now but 250 or 500 GB. I know that the recover the system after the hard is replaced (Windows 7) said "to avoid problems, install a hard drive as big or bigger than the replaced hard disk", but that's a question for later.

Computer started fine of USB (in fact, is set to boot from USB if present by default). Recovery Manager starts. I choose minimum installation. He goes through the process of partitioning the SSD and copying files. Said so to remove the external media and restart, the computer will restart several times during the process, blah, blah, blah. I get out of USB and restarted, but after POST I get "no bootable media present.

If I try to reboot, leaving the USB in, it starts in USB and that we are at the beginning. I am able to confirm with a rescue disk, the SSD has an NTFS partition that had Windows files copied to it and a large amount of unallocated space. (Something like 60% / 40%).

    So:

    1. How make bootable hard drive for, and if it was bootable, recovery processes complete?
    2. What is happening with the partitions? He creates the partition recovery first, and then after the start, the recovery partition installs the operating system? If so, I might have to give up this process because since I'm moving to smaller storage, I don't want to devote half of the drive to a recovery partition.
    3. Official recovery media help? A technician told me that he would do so, but couldn't explain to my satisfaction why the USB I created with Recovery Manager does not work, so I'm suspicious of the assertion that the media created by HP as opposed to media created by me using the own HP software would be better, and since the computer is under warranty I don't want to spend $30 + to find out.

Most of the people who have installed an SSD that was smaller than the reader of the factory were unable to use any medium recovery HP with the SSD.

As an alternative, if you can still read the 25 characters on the COA affixed Microsoft Windows product key at the bottom of the computer, you can install Windows 7 family, by using this key. Please see "how to install Windows 7 without the disc" to get instructions on how to download Windows 7, create the installation media and install Windows 7 using the product key 25 character of the COA Microsoft on your computer. Please note that this facility is not all customizations of HP or HP value-added that was original installed on your computer. Also note that you will need to download and install most of the pilots of the HP G62t - 350 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page.

Windows 7 SP1 can be found HERE and HERE.

  • Are recovery Dell discs - REALLY available?

I have a XPS computer, Windows 10 8900, it received last week. If your Dell printer is under warranty (mine is, dating a week), you can order Dell disks backup and restore here. You enter your Service tag and click on continue. When I do this, I get this message: "sorry, we seem to have a problem with one of our services (ASQ), please wait a few minutes and try again. Well, I tried for a few DAYS (in and out) and still get this message. Yes, I know that I can create the disks (or a USB stick recovery) and I'm going, but I also want to get drives from Dell. Could someone order these discs?

Finally got the recovery of 'media' today. I thought it would be disks (the page to make the request indicates "Backup CD"), but they sent me a 8 GB USB key:

I'm so happy. Only took me a few weeks of the nagging to get...

  • Failures of start-up and recovery Dell XPS 8700

The system is 2 years old.  No recovery image was never created.

    Here are the original symptoms.

    1. cannot start Windows 8.1 on Dell XPS 8700.
    2 OS refresh fails.
    3. OS restore points fail.
    4. OS auto repair fails.
5 restart the failure of Options (Safe Mode, start Debug mode).
    6. command prompt fails (cannot find all administrator accounts).

    Done so far:

Created a bootable flash drive. After changing the BIOS setting to boot using the USB key, first of all, the PC started successfully. Then, I was able to access the command prompt and save the user data files.

Then, I went back into the BIOS and changed the boot order to the internal HARD drive. I rebooted and finally started a reset from the PC (factory restore). After the reset process has reached 4%, I got a reset failure message. A subsequent reboot then gave me an error message file BCD 0xc000000d "the BCD file is missing information". The next restart gave, I can best recall, 'no partition not found on the internal hard drives And I could see no longer the menu of UEFI, just the BIOS (A06) firmware. After change the order of boot and boot to the flash drive, I could see that a lot of files apparently had been marked for deletion on the C: drive as user profiles did not appear. At one point, the flash player had become the C: drive and HARD drive is X:. But which cleared up later. After getting the quick C: folder to the HARD drive, I published the following commands Bootrec /fixmbr and /fixboot, Bootrec scanos Bootrec rebuildbcd Bootrec. After trying to start once more on the internal HARD disk, I had another variant of the BCD file error, 0xc00000098 "the BCD file contains no valid information for the operating system".

Any chance of recovery in this situation?  Otherwise, I guess we will have to get a replacement drive (that is, SSD) and a copy of Windows 10.   Thank you.

    Hi 2Tallinva,

Yes, that sounds like a hard disk failure. You can try this site to download a disc Windows 8.1. Of course, a free update to win 10 is better than paying for an OS you already entitled to.

But when I search the support site and found no custom, image driver, but a recovery for ESXi 5.1 image.

I'm confused with the description written on the download page.

ISO image that ESXi 5.1 Recovery Image Build # 799733 (A02) should be used only to recover/reinstall the ESXi for SD Card/USB Key image on Dell platforms.

    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/product/PowerEdge-R720?driverId=H8X70&osCode=XI51&FILEID=3163313948&LanguageCode=en

So is this the personalized Image of DELL for ESXi 5.1 I was looking for or just a picture for the recovery of card SD/USB Key?

Thank you if someone could give me a hint.

I'm considered pretty new to install VMware on DELL server.

    Eddy,

This is the image of installation for the SD and the readers. The sentence came from previous versions that have been "Embedded" to SD card and the "Installable" for hard disks. This is the ISO image, you will need.

If you have problems or questions during installation let us know.

Let me know how it goes.
