Outlook Express help?

Cannot receive messages by roadrunner via outlook express. I checked the incoming server address and I can send but receive. Any help?

I suggest that you remove the account completely, restart and re-add. I can only assume there is something wrong with the settings, but without seeing the machine, I don't know what it is.

Make sure you that you do not enter the address of response and never hit the space key after an entry. For example, when you type in the name of the incoming server: xxxxxx (at) rr.xx.com, if you put a space after the com it won't work and you won't know there is a space just by looking.

In addition, some security program you use, make sure that it does not scan messages.

  • I lost 16 months of emails when I click "Compact Messages" in Outlook Express - Help!

I searched on the internet and made the following to address my problem-

. Working offline with Outlook Express

. Open Recycle Bin on the Windows desktop

. The '.bak' file located I wanted back

. Clicked on the file '.bak' with the right button of the mouse

. Restore selected in the menu

BUT now, I can't locate the file in Windows Explorer and open the folder that's in.  How can I find the file - I did a search for all files and folders, and anything else that is listed, but it comes up with zero results.  HELP PLEASE

In addition to Bruce's response, go to tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Storage folder and that will show you the location of the message store.  Copy to this location.

Then go to control panel | Folder options | View and uncheck Hide extensions of known file types and check the option to show hidden files and folders (the message store and its files are hidden).

Then, open Windows Explorer and paste it into the location you copied into the address bar and then you should find the dbx and bak files.

Then see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 to re-import the bak file in OE.  If it doesn't matter, then you may need my DBXpress (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) program to retrieve messages.

  • Cannot delete emails from Outlook Express. Help, please!

OK, stuck in my Outlook Express again. Someone sent me 2 emails that I can't remove. Help, please! I'll save the news this time, since it seems to happen more. Why? Beyond me!

Don't worry about what Vijay suggests until you move all messages from the Inbox you want to keep.  His suggestion will scan all messages in your Inbox.

If you are unable to delete e-mails, your deleted items folder go corrupt.  Move anything out of this folder that you want to keep, then close OE and delete the deleted items.dbx file.  OE will create a new.

Outlook express deleted at random 2 years worth of my emails. Is there anyway to get back them. ? They are not in the deleted section

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

    Recovery methods:

If you are running XP/SP3, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Note: If you have new messages in the folder you are go restore, move them to a folder first created user, or they will be lost. They can be moved once the old posts have been restored.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
    http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently.

  • With the help of old Windows CD to install the optional component deleted Outlook Express and I need to get it back!

We have received a Windows XP laptop from a friend and use Outlook Express for e-mail. We had a number of other things such as pilots with the laptop but not the Windows CD.  Then we wanted to reduce the size of a jpg image and I wanted to use MS Photo Editor to do what I then read on the Microsoft site that I could get by installing from any Windows CD.  Therefore, I used an old Windows XP CD from another PC, choose to install an optional component and chose as accessories to the next screen, ensure that all other options were struck down, assuming that so they would simply not be installed.  One of them was Outlook Express and Internet Explorer.  Instead of THIS the wizard DELETED Outlook Express and Internet Explorer.  When I tried to get him back by checking these options, asked me for the 2nd day of the original installation CD - which of course, I did not!  I have managed to re - download IE8 from Microsoft Download site, but of course do that for Outlook Express - and we don't have Office on this computer: (.)  Help!  (a) is it possible to reverse this process to remove/uninstall Outlook Express? (b) we now lost all our emails? (c) I already tried to go back to a previous good configuration, but that has not worked.

Thank you in advance for advice, answers or help.

First, make sure that OE has actually disappeared.  Go to start | Run and paste this and see if OE starts:

    "c:\program files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe".

Including the quotes and see if OE starts.  Very often "withdrawal" OE removes just the shortcut to it.

If this does not work, you can try reinstalling XP SP3 (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/learn-how-to-install-windows-xp-service-pack-3-sp3), but you should probably uninstall IE8 first and then reinstall it later.

You can also go to the c:\windows\inf directory and locate the msoe5.inf file and right-click on it and choose Install and see if that fixes things.

    See if that works.

  • Computer crashed and has been restored. I can't find my address book Outlook Express or Outlook Express folders. Please help me.

Computer crashed and a computer store restored our operating system. However, I can't find my address book Outlook Express or Outlook Express folders. Please help me.

Kewl! Did you find a folder named Outlook Express which had a number of inside DBX files? And there a file called Folders.dbx? If so, that's fine.

Write on the way and in the new identity of OE: file | Import | Messages. Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and then point to the folder that you have found.

  • can receive messages but can't send on outlook express, need help

Was just good with this computer that uses windows XP and have added my name is outlook express account. Things were going along fine until it tries to send a response to a current e-mail was greeted with an error message "secure (SSL). ' No, Error.10061 Socket error #0x800CCC0E ' and my message is stuck in my Outbox. Am at a loss to know how this can be resolved and of course need help...

Check: File | Work offline and in: reviews | Layout: uncheck the preview pane and you should be able to delete the message.

The account is probably not configured correctly. Double check your settings and if you don't get developed, after back and say EU your e-mail server and send an error message in its entirety. You can left click on it to highlight then right click to copy and then paste in this thread.

  • I use Outlook express. Telephone support to the Mirosoft says I have a corrupted Inbox. Can you help me?

I phone supports microsoft says I have a corrupted Outlook Express Inbox. I use Windows XP Home Edition in option 2. Can you help me solve this problem?

Error number: 0x800C0133 = a corrupted Outlook Express Inbox.

Move any message you want to save to a local folder that you create. Then, remove the problem of Inbox as follows.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the box of Inbox.dbx and delete it. Another will be created automatically when you open OE.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program.
