• Inline with our IPS mode

  Hey everybody,

  We are considering changing our promiscuity of inline IPS, but we want to be careful not to interrupt the normal traffic when we do. We have dealt with pretty well right now, and we do not seem to get a lot of false positives that would be refused.

  So I have a few questions on this topic. Firstly, is it something that I should be careful which can cause people to the top when you do? I know that some of the signatures on the IPS runs to deny without alerting, but most of the people seems to be faulty packages which should probably be this way. Is there something known to cause problems? (This is in general. I know that you guys don't know what is on our network.)

  In addition, we use MARCH to monitor all this, so I would like to define a rule to send an email to a few people, whenever something is blocked. When to create this rule, the events that trigger the rule so the group 'AttacksProtected '?   You can do a number of things for a smooth transition. You can disable the inspection on SPI (software the exception parameter) and then test all network connectivity after placing the inline sensor. Then, you can set a filter event action to avoid the action to refuse all signatures/events OR you can select all signatures and change the alert action for products only. However if you are really confident you can go forward without making any of the two above, but I would'nt :)

  The AIP - SSM will join the MARCH "inside" of the SAA. He knows that the event originated on a module. To receive emails, configure the SMTP domain settings / in the "Admin" tab and then set the action of the rule to the email (by default, you can add the users admin as recipient group).

  I'm trying to understand if it's funny question on our SC8000 6.6 OS or on purpose (and if so, why?).

  Sending packets (ping - l) larger that the MTU configured on the server returns a timeout.
  It doesn't matter if I'll put any 9014/4088/1650. These servers have no problem Ping between them in any scenario.

  So. It's always nice to come back on the forum with the answer.and cannot be the following through the void. So here it is.

  YES. the HDS is not to respond to ping fragmented.  but we had a different behavior that we could not explain, even with the indicator f. instead to get the answer that the packet needs to be fragmented, we got the ping timeout for the size of the packets between 8968 8972:

  C:\>ping 10.1.158.13 f-l 8969
  Ping 10.1.158.13 with 8969 bytes of data
  Request timed out.

  So we saw this as a black - hole.we we are really concerned to find that point, but when you take the packet trace that I found something interesting. on any ping response above 62 bytes the HDS also return four bytes of the trash at the end (well that's the look as it puts even more of the CBA after the image)
  

  We tested it on another system that has a different configuration, on that we that we have had no black hole.  another trace fast package (down at the bottom), we saw that the server receives frames of to1918 bytes (the card configured to 9014 accepts but still above).
  so - two questions, both seems to be with HDS pings to the
  1 compellent adds garbage four bytes to packets of bytes 62 more ping response.
  2 compellent allow the ping response on 9014Bytes that are lost by our NIC (but seems to be only for ping).

  because we dug it good enough only to ICMP. I don't have keep trying and captured anywhere else on the wire.

  This seems to be a known bug that does no work around :/ You should consider upgrading your code if you think it is causing problems. If you are upgrading, be sure to upgrade to 5.1 or 5.2, as the 5.0 code isn't at the height.

  On router R1, you gave the default route as output interface. Instead of using the output interface replace the IP address of the next hop. It will solve the issue of the reduction of ping.

  This golden rule remains immutable. the only exception is the vpn traffic. ASA for example (or pix v7) would act as a hub for traffic between two rays rediect vpn.

  assuming the host to lan 1 to asa as the gateway default, even asa has a static route to the internal router of the point for local network 2, the golden rule will reject this operation.

  If you have the Ethernet cable from your ISP router that is connected to the "O" on the AirPort Extreme WAN port, unplug the cable and plug it into one of the three ports LAN <>- on the airport to see if this will help with the issue.

  However, if you have the Ethernet cable from the ISP router already connected to one of the LAN <>- port on the AirPort Extreme, then you'll need to reset the AirPort Extreme back to default settings and then set up again.

  If you have any further questions, the Airport extreme is defective and must be replaced.
