  My Officejet 6500 has more (model CN557A) is connected through the USB port.  My operating system is XP.    I can scan my computer, I can copy and print from the printer control panel, but I can't send anything to print from my computer.  This problem just started about 3 days ago.  I tried troubleshooting but I have not received the case.  I did not add new programs, and I have 194 GB free on my hard drive.

  N ° however, I accidentally discovered the problem.  I had a card reader connected to my computer to download pictures.  Apparently it disrupted the cycle of printing for my printer.  I removed the card reader and the printer works fine now.  Thank you for your response.

  My Officejet 6500 has just stopped printing.  I use a USB connection and my operating system is Windows XP Home Edition.  At first, it was just the text that Wouln't print but the colors would come by, even on test prints.  On a print document the little box comes up showing the data transferred to printer, printer starts but doesn't work with a blank page.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled program, has gone through the full program of the HP Solutions guided, checked all connections, installed the new driver, and yet do not print anything.  Have never had any previous problems since I bought.  I have not recently installed new programs.  Would appreciate any other suggestions.

  After everything I lived, I finally solved the problem.  Although the ink levels showed ink cartridges, I put a new black in one and it works!

I was able to make it work with my HP PC Windows XP (would not work with the radio, but it's probably a problem with this computer - connected very well with USB). But I don't see the option to add it on my Mac (main computer) running OS Lion. I'm completely updated on Mac software. I see my other printer as usual (also a HP) on Mac.

I looked on the HP site to various articles and it seems that I might need to make an update of the firmware on the printer, but when I downloaded the software (on the PC), my printer is gray and so wouldn't let me - or does not need the upgrade.   I don't really know exactly what I did - added to the printer with its IP address and manually the software (added name - I also had a HP update tonight for the printer software, but that only did nothing), then printing I tried and it still would not work.  I used the adjusted IP address, which I found on the dashboard of Verizon. And for some reason, once I put that in manually on the printer, it remained there, even when in desperation I tried to put it back the "detect network" setting. Sorry - but this is not quite logical or in the order.

  Also, I restarted the router, then the printer. Somewhere among all the things I tried, to my amazement, it finally worked! At first, I saw the IP address as the name of the printer (which I had entered it), and then he asked to be changed to the actual model. I did it and it now seems to work.   I need help. my HP Officejet 6500 has more out of print colors.  I changed the printhead twice ($86,00), with new inks, hp 920, (all colors and black) twice ($120,00) has contacted HP tech support and they told me it's a hardware problem and it is irreparable! Prints fine in black ink only.  copy, scan and fax work well. The test to align the printhead fails.  I am running windows XP, sp3 with all drivers up to date. HP makes no more of this model, I really like the way he worked.  Nice picture Wi - Fi and print present works well (black ink only).   Would like to keep this printer and not lose my current investment of ink cartridges (HP920). The current model uses different inks (of fat) can someone help me.  Thank you.

  I don't know how all this relates to MS Windows, but maybe you could try HP support regarding problems with your printer, for example.

I ran the HP Network Config page and it shows an IP address different today that it did. Is the message that I get when I send a document to print wireless: network host 192.168.1.101 is busy try again in 10 seconds.

  I checked the IP address of the printer and it is 192.168.1.100 (not 101). Therefore, they do not speak with each other. I treated all the solutions that I can find on the HP network to see if I can get the two survey periods to match and nothing seems to work.   Something doesn't look good - maybe that I misunderstood... You say above, your computer and your printer had the same IPaddress and, when this is the case, you were able to print. Now, the printer and the computer have different IP addresses and now, you are not able to print. If this summary is correct, that then it seems to me that it should be exactly the reverse.

  If the IP addresses were the same, there is a conflict between devices, a bit like a mailman trying to deliver mail to two different locations which have the same addresses... What place receives the mail? It is normal for all network devices have their own unique IP address - how each device gets its own mail... or data packets.

  From the sounds of things, your printer is 100 but the MAC OS think its 101. Therefore, the print job is sent to 101 and never happens at the printer. You have two options... tell the OS that the printer is located at 192.168.1.100 or that, to avoid this problem in the future, on the IP address of the printer a static address, just guessing anything below 100, as 192.168.1.50 and then specify the operating system that the printer is located to 192.168.1.50.

  To make the choice of the latter, you must use your internet browser (Safari) and navigate to the 192.168.1.100 address. There is a web interface for your printer. Look for the network settings, then you can change the way that the IP address is obtained from dynamic (DHCP) static. And, after that, you need to find the IP of 192.168.1.50. It is also important to complete the subnet mask that will be 255.255.255.0. Finally, if your printer includes "web applications", you should also check the DNS addresses. You can use: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google's DNS servers) or 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS servers)

  Note that when you save / apply the changes, you will lose your connection to the webinterface of the printer as the printer will have a new address. To return to the printer web interface, access the new static IP address.

  With ad-hoc connections, it is really intended more for printing in a pinch without going through the hassle of setting it up on a network.  Or, you have two computers and you have connected it via USB to an and a laptop which is wireless, you can print via ad-hoc of the laptop.

  Honestly, I recommend picking up an affordable standalone wireless router (Netgear, Linksys, etc.) and connect the printer (wireless or Ethernet, does not matter).  From there on, connect the computers on this network and you should be able to install and print without any problems.  You can find the router could be useful beyond just this configuration or may be good to have if you plan to do events like this on a regular basis.

  The printer itself is not a router and communicting with multiple devices simultaneously may create congestion in causing connection problems similar to what you experience when you use ad - hoc for as many devices.

  I am VERY disappointed with HP and its incompatibility with Win7 x 64 drivers. Don't advertise your crap software is compatible, when it is not! I lost hours of my personal time, trying to get HP to work then most of time taking the piece of crap back (I really like the hardware of the printer - software "guys really?"). I will never buy another HP printer. And on the Canon Wireless Setup was easier. A button called easy set up on top of the printer and BAM done. * beep * HP, * beep * indeed.
