  • The upgrade of the internal SATA HARD drive for HP Pavilion dm4

    Hello

I have the HP dm4 - 1150 bought ea I think in December 2004.  It has intel core i5 and 500 GB of HARD drive.

It works very well.  I ben hae wanting to upgrade the HARD disk but hard drives SATA 2.5 inches for this ability were not available.

drives internal SATA 2.5-inch 2 TB for laptops are now available.  The OEM version seems to be available for about £80 in the United Kingdom.  Has anyone successfully updated your laptop HARD drive?  Does anyone know if I buy and install the new 2 TB SATA HDD if it works.  If not why?

Would appreciate a response from anyone who has tried this on dm4 or similar computers HP laptop

    Thank you

If it's the original drive it is SATA-II as SATA-III was not then invented. Confirmed here:

    http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/Eng/2879-701275.PDF

You can replace it with a SATA-III disc without any problems. They are perfectly backwards compatible. Your motherboard is a SATA-II at best and could even be SATA - I have but I do not.

I avoid the biggest current disks because drive manufacturers must invent new technological tricks to squeeze more and more zeros and ones in the same size box and it takes time to work on the kinks. Right now, 1 TB is the sweet spot for the readers of the laptop and 2 TB or 3 for desktop drives. Stay with a 1 TB drive 7200 rpm or still a hybrid drive of 1 TB would not a bit of extra money.

  • Can I eject my usb devices connected internal SATA hardrive...

OK we know that when you plug in a usb flash drive, you can click on the usb icon in your taskbar and then eject the device... Well well my internal sata HDD my OS running on shows in this list as well! I think it's a bug. Just a thought.

    Hi, the fireballs
I don't know if this is a bug or not, but it is interesting.
I think that I him would NOT eject just in case. He'll probably just a mistake.
But as I said, I wouldn't do it. It could make your system unbootable.

If you want to report to Microsoft and see what they say, I included a link to a site for reporting something 'interesting '.

  • 400 GB external hard drive USB (PX1273E - 1 40) is internal SATA or IDE?

    Hello

I consider burning this external hard drive (PX1273E - 1 40) and would like to know if the disk inside has a SATA interface or an IDE interface, in the case of the latter in I decide to open, take the drive and connect it to the computer internally.

    Anyone know this information?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Unfortunately, I didn't find all of the information on the interface type of the enclosure.
In my opinion, it could be an IDE interface but I m not100% sure.

But never fear, you can buy a 3rd party SATA to IDE adapter and was able to connect the HARD drive if it will support different interfaces.

  • How to activate the faults COMMITTED to an internal SATA hard drive, but not the other, on Vista Home Premium 32-bit?

I have a set of 17-inch laptop 2008 which contains two hard drive bays internal, purchased in June.  It came with a single hard drive (traditional spinning disc).  It is running Service Pack 2, Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

My SATA controller is an Intel 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M family); I think it's a first-generation SATA controller (1.5 Gbps).

I received recently a 160 GB Intel X - 25 M SSD (second generation SATA, but it is fully compatible with the first generation controllers, without additional or jumpers configuration) as a gift from my wife.  I removed my first hard drive completely, installed the SSD in the main Bay and installed Windows, drivers and the Intel SSD utility.  I then reinstalled my HDD original in the second span, completely wiped and reformatted it as a partition; It currently contains my music and other multimedia files.

The utility Intel SSD tells me I should activate DIPM for my SSD as opposed to HIPM.  This seems to take a bit of tinkering to make Vista, and my situation is further complicated by the presence of my HARD drive (original) secondary, which prefer to use HIPM.

I read the article on the Microsoft Web site on editing the registry to activate the misconduct, and it's something I would feel comfortable doing. However, I don't want my SSD to use DIPM, my HARD drive is expected to continue to use HIPM, and I was afraid that the proposed fix would allow the misconduct for all readers.

Could someone let me know how I can activate DIPM for my SSD while continuing to use HIPM to my HARD drive, I'd be very grateful.

EDIT: My Maintenance of SSD utility said simply that the State of the settings DIPM/HIPM "could not be determined." if Vista automatically selects the correct setting and the SSD utility does not just understand that, which makes my life a lot easier. but it would be nice to know for sure, so I can forget it all (if Vista already defined for me) or change the setting (if Vista did not automatically choose food appropriate for each disk management mode).

You will need two SATA controllers: both on board or an edge and the other on PCI - E.

Configure one who does not need TRIM/DIPM (do not use a SSD) as non-AHCI (compatible IDE/ATA-6) in the BIOS and the other (where TRIM/DIPM will be used) as AHCI.

Connect the drive to which you DIPM AHCI controller. See http://www.abxzone.com/forums/f155/tip-how-enable-dipm-ssds-windows-120968.html for more information.

    Hello everyone!

I intend to put the ssd to the second slot, and I would like to know my laptop supports sata-3.

    Hello

The following image shows my machine (dv7-70xx) which is SATA III:

Yours should be the same, BUT you can check yourself by using the following program:

  • Windows XP Pro SP3 does not include 1 TB WD internal SATA drive Green even if it is marked in the Device Manager doesn't work properly

Using motherboard Asus P5N - D, the Sata drive is displayed in the bios.  I use a Maxtor IDE drive as primary and I just wanted to add more disk space.

    Hello

Try to connect the external hard drive on another computer and check if the same problem persists.

I suggest that you set the drive letter for the external hard drive and check if that helps.

To assign a drive letter to a drive, a partition, or a volume, follow these steps:

    1. Sign in as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
    2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click performance and Maintenance.

Note If you do not see the performance and Maintenance, go to step 3. Performance and Maintenance appears in control Panel only if you use category view. If you are using the classic view, performance and Maintenance does not appear.

    3. Click Administrative Tools, double-click computer management, and then click disk management in the left pane.
    4. Right click on the drive, the partition, the logical drive or volume that you want to assign a drive letter to and then click change drive letter and paths.
    5. Click on Add.
    6. Click assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected, and then accept the default drive letter or click the drive letter that you want to use.
    7. Click OK.

  • Internal SATA II hard drive not recognized by Windows 7

I upgraded to the i7 platform today and started with a new installation of windows 7, but I also kept my old 2 disks hard disk 0 (Hitatchi 250 GB) drive (Hitatchi 500 GB) 1 2 (Seagate 1 TB drive) - the 1 TB HARD drive is a new one. However, the BIOS recognizes all drives, Windows 7 does not recognize 1 TB HARD drive... Disk management is. Any Suggestions? I want to be able to use the walk that I have information on the 500, but it is 90% full... (Pulling my hair out trying to find a way for this drive be seen by windows 7).

    Intel LGA 1156 MB
    4 GB RAM DDR3 1066
    Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz
MSI NVIDIA 250 GTS 512 MB video.

I managed to solve the problem. I had EXACTLY the same problem and was able to resolve this down to a bug in Windows 7.

    Windows 7 SATA not recognized

I did a blog post on this subject in which I linked above. However, I will also give you the solution here:

    The answer:
    Start-> right click computer-> properties
    Device Manager (left side)
Click on the arrow of disks to view the list
Find your reader you have installed here
Make a right click on the drive-> uninstall
After the HDD SATA disappears, click on action-> Scan for hardware changes menu

  • Internal SATA hard drive does not come with Windows 7

    It's quite strange.

Computer has 4 SATA and 2 DVD discs.

Windows 7 sees only 3 drives. Does not even appear in disk management... It is not the case to find.

The missing disk is partitioned in ~ 100 GB, which contains a working copy of Windows XO Sp3 and a second empty partition (~ 400 Gb).

It manifests itself in Bios and I can even boot from the WinXP partition (selected through the bios).

In Windows XP, I see all 4 disks in disk management/Explorer, etc..

But when I boot on Windows 7, the entire disk is no where (no, it isn't there with a letter from non - drive is not there).

Have even tried switching around SATA cables, but still no effect.

    Any ideas?

    Thanx

    Solved...

I ran a "scan for hardware changes" in Device Manager and it finds the empty partition on the disk. Curiously, he has not found the XP partition. Scanned a bit more time and nothing that the partition is empty. Restarted (actually shutting down) and re-ran the scan and it found all!

    Thanks for your help :)

  • Windows 7, slow start, after that initial windows backup has been done internally SATA 3 to disk

Any new installation of Windows 7 on a CORE I7, SSD as the first disk, and WD3TB as the backup Z: drive

If the 3 TB is freshly formatted, "starting Windows" takes about 8 seconds.

Copy 150 GB of data on the 3 to, start-up time is not affected.

Then after the initial backup of Windows is made for 3 to on the next restart and subsequent reboots, "Starting Windows" ~ 50 seconds.

Checked on another PC and other tests on a CORE i5 - 3570 K 3.4 GHZ with SSD as C: and WD3TB as the backup.

The fix was to change the windows of formatting of the allocation size of the 3 TB to 64K, the default value is 4 k.

Calculation of the allocation size and time to "starting Windows":

    After a backup on the CORE i5;

    Alloc Time seconds

    2K 85

    K 4, 57 (default Allocation size)

    8K 32

    16K 19

    32K 13

    64K 11

Before a backup: it is freshly formatted

  • DV7 discs, 1 or 2 sata drives?

Repost this question, hopefully better written.

Glancing dv7-7212nr. Chose this one because it is only for the model dv7 showing in full HD.

He says he has a sata drive main, with a 32 GB "high drive".

For not looking on HP, because everyone calls this 32 gb HIDING a player, but as it cannot be used for storage, it is not storage.

So, I have the same confusion as before. Can this cause a real second sata drive? The specs do not mean that it can.

Which is curious, because it is a quite remarkable possibility to hold your two disks. I think it would be a major point of advertising.

What I need, is a C: drive ssd 256 GB, with a second large drive like D: 2 TB drive.

(One way would be to use a disc usb external).

The other way, its two internal SATA drives. Windows and crucial data on the ssd C:.

So, I've set up this way, doesn't mean no cache 32 GB?

It is even possible to fill with two internal SATA drives?

    Hello

I refer to my machine (I hit it now):

    1. it is a dv7-7xxx machine,

    2. it has TWO DRIVES HARD 1 TB each and an SSD (32 GB as you already know).

You always keep the 32 GB of SSD and use other 2 bays for two SSD or two HARD drives or everyone, whatever you like.

Hope this answer answers your question.
