Pavilion 15-bc018nl: upgrade SSD m2 in Pavilion 15-bc018nl

Hi, recently I bought a Pavilion 15-bc018nl (X7H34EA #ABZ).
I want to upgrade with a secondary hard drive using the port m2 (empty), but I was unable to find the right type of device (Sata or Pcie) m2.

According to the "HP Pavilion Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service of Guide", these are the possible configurations:

but I have no idea what kind of M.2 ssd should I buy...
M.2 internal SATA port or the PCIe is?
I also heard that in some cases the port of m2 is not enabled.

So my question is: How can I know if the port of m2 is activated and M.2 SSD is compatible with it?

Thank you much for the help!

I finally got an answer from HP support, my port of m2 is successfully activated and works very well. It is sata and pcie compatible.

  • Upgrade SSD for Dell XPS 15 9550

    Hello

I have Dell XPS 9550 with configuration 32 GB SSD + 500 GB HARD disk. I want to upgrade SSD for more space avaliablity.

But I don't know what type of SSD, I'll need to buy. Also, I read XPS 15 to repair. There are two chapter for the removal and replacement of the SSD in the maintenance manual. First chapter of half-length SSD, second chapter SSD full length.

How can I identify necessary SSD for me in stores (dimensions, label, etc.)?

What interface for SSD do I need?  PCIE or SATA?

What is the map? M2.2280 or PCI-E AIC (-expansion card)?

    Thanks in advance!

These are all numbers of Dell and descriptions.

The system uses a PCIe (or is if you want a faster player), 2280 m2 or small size.  UNLESS you buy directly from Dell, it is best NOT to buy versions OEM of SSD (Samsung end pieces in a '1' vs '0' for details).

OEM spare parts are usually not compatible to end-users by the manufacturer.

Because you will probably install the operating system for the new SSD, don't forget to make a recovery media set, you need to load the operating system on the larger capacity disk - what you have now is just a cache for the main hard drive.

@MistaB Yes, that's what I thought. If it is not tested by HP, it'll be not there in the manuals I guess.

@MichaelCanton go ahead with SSD. Planning of 128GB? Previously, he was entitled to 500 GB HARD drive? You're going to make the bootable SSD?, then a little larger size would be better:

  • Upgrade SSD for Pavilion 15-n097 (F4T60EA #ABU)

I have a newly purchased 15-n097 Pavilion and an M500 Crucial 480 GB SSD, I would like to install.

Can someone direct me to the proper maintenance and manual advice on any bios updates that may be required please?

I understand that the HARD drive on this machine is a bit of a pig to get to but as long as I have clone HARD drive (I have Acronis True Image) and are not reluctant to do open heart surgery on a new laptop (OB) then I'm good to go...?

Well, here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

Page 65. Get the means of hard disk, remove the top cover. Yes use Acronis and disk clone with proportional resizing with an external SATA USB adapter then swap the SSD to the original hard disk, and you'll be good to go. You must not touch the BIOS or really to make changes to the operating system. Windows 8 is quite good at recognizing the SSD and established itself in order to optimize their. Don't resist it.

    Hello
I'm not 100% sure on the exact model I have (I'm sure it's 3183ee) but the motherboard is 631044-001
According to the laptop manual, he must take 160 GB SSD but it would work also with:

    Crucial BX100 250 GB SATA 6 Gbit/s 2.5 "SSD internal flash drive
    or
    MX100 crucial 256 GB SATA 6 Gbit/s 2.5 "SSD internal flash drive

    Thanks in advance!

Know nothing about the series BX Crucial. We had more report here that his cell phone one HP has not detected the presence of a Crucial SSD of MX100 and I saw no success on that report. Probably a problem of firmware on the SSD.

  • Upgrade SSD on Satellite Pro U200

    Hello!

I have a laptop (Satellite Pro U200-PLUA1E-00X007HU of the v3.70 win7 32-bit bios), I want to upgrade with a series of Samsung 830 64 GB SSD. I read that the SSD need AHCI mode. My laptop supports AHCI mode? What can I change in the bios before installing the new storage?

    Thanks for the help!

    Robert

    Hello

    I see you're confused
First, he must know that the laptop supports the SATA controller.
This means that you must use hard drives SATA or SATA SSD.

Second: AHCI means SATA some BIOS supports only a SATA mode, and you can switch between compatible (IDE) mode and AHCI (SATA) mode.

If this switch is not available in the BIOS mode is always set to AHCI.

    However, to SSD drive question:
I put t really no problem using an SSD.
It must function as the SATA controller support

  • Upgrade SSD for Satellite Pro A120

    Hello
I have a satellite pro A120, which feels a little tired. I did research SSD upgrades to replace the HARD drive, but I don't know if I can update or not. I would really appreciate any advice or information you can give me.

    Thank you

    Hello

You can upgrade the laptop with an SSD. You need a disc SSD SATA 2.5 as the A120 supports the SATA controller.
Not quite sure about the SSD size but I guess a 250 GB should be recognized correctly.

  • Portege Z30-A-10w: Win 7 BSOD after upgrade SSD

    Hello

I am wanting to upgrade a laptop Toshiba-Portege-z30-a-10w of company SSD 128 to 512 SSD
However when loading windows 7, it crashes when connecting with a blue screen error 0x00000001

    http://www.crucial.com/USA/en/storage-SSD-M550

    and according to the
    http://www.crucial.com/USA/en/compat...Tege-Z30-a-10W

It is compatible with the Toshiba portege-z30-a-10w
I've updated the BIOS of the laptop to V4 30/04/2015 (which to my knowledge is the most recent)

Moreover I have updated the firmware on the SSD 512 to what, in my view, is the last

  • Upgrade SSD for a Tecra R840-16J

    Hello world

This is my first post here!
I am Portuguese and I bought a R840-16J two months ago. I chose this model because it had all the specs I wanted (I run Toshiba laptops since 1997... and my first still works!) except one: he had not an SSD. Given that I could not custom make my laptop that I bought it with a 500 GB HDD at 7200 RPM,.
The upgrade only I could do (and I did) was to install an extra 4 GB RAM module.

I would like to install an SSD now (with the same capacity,...).

    My questions:

    1. don't recommend me a special brand/model?
2 - What are the steps that I need to have a correct installation?
    3. I installed a lot of sw that I need (office, PS and many astronomy specific sw I use). Do I have to re - install all these or is it a solution to 'clone' my HARD drive SSD?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated :-).

    Kind regards
    Paulo

    > 1-do you recommend me a special brand/model?

I would not recommend a specific model or manufacturer, I think that it s always a question of value for money. I recommend you get some reading and assessment tests some SSD drive test on tech Web sites.
You can choose the best SSD drive for you I mean it didn't need to be the best and expensive

    > 2 - what steps I have to do a correct installation?

It is the same procedure as the HARD drive upgrade.
Check this nice HowTo from Toshiba:
Tecra R840 & Satellite R840 HARD drive replacement procedure
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/CRU19037K0000R01.htm

    > 3 - I installed a lot of sw that I need (office, PS and many astronomy specific sw I use). Do I have to re - install all these or is it a solution to 'clone' my HARD drive SSD?

You can install everything again on new SSD drive or you will create an image:
You can use an option included in Windows 7:
Click Start at the start and then select back up your files.
Then click on create a system image hyperlink.
Now you can choose where you want to save the image. You can choose an external HARD disk, burn it on several DVD s, or store it on a network location.
When you want to restore the image, you will be able to use the System Recovery Options to recover the system. For a recovery of the system option, you must start the Win 7 F8 press should choose fix my computer. You will find in this window option called: system image recovery

  • HP Envy 13-d001no: upgrade SSD on a new HP Envy 13 m2

    Hello!

I just got my HP Envy 13-d001no. As I expected I really enjoy them until now, but I am interested the upgrade to a faster SSD with more storage on this subject. I'm looking at two different drives, namely the Samsung 850 EVO m2 and the Samsung PRO 950 m2. Both drives are m2 (2280) form factor, but they differ in that the EVO 850 uses a SATA 6.0 Gbit/s-interface while the PRO 950 has a PCIe interface.

I am not fully aware of the differences between these interfaces. I know that PCIe allows faster speeds, but they are both compatible with the new HP Envy 13? I find anywhere which interface is the exact shape of the SSD factor currently installed and I don't want to take the risk of buying a new drive only for him is not to adapt or not to work on the laptop.

According to the HP ENVY laptop (model numbers used: 13-d000 through 13-d099)-Maintenance and Service Guide of, this model supports the following:

    SSD drive
    Serial ATA M2 storage
Support for the following SSD drive configurations:
512 MB M2, SATA-3, support triple cell level (TLC)
    256 MB M2, SATA-3, support the TLC
    128 MB, M2, SATA-3, support the TLC
    128 MB, M2.2280, SATA-3

On this basis, it would seem that the Samsung 850 EVO m2 is the correct upgrade for your computer.
