Pavilion a6400f: upgrade or replace?

Should I worry about upgrading my Pavilion a6400f (it's specs are always also is from the factory)?  I want to use Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 without problem.  I can afford a new PC, but I probably would buy refurbished for about $230.  I would like to get a newer version of Microsoft Office.  I have need graphics top of range (I play all the games).   Thank you.

An upgrade would be better.

I suggest you wait a little time, like a month because Windows 10 will be published soon.

It is much better than windows 8 and windows 7 + 8 is more like handsets.

So, you will get the best of both worlds

  • Pavilion A6400f: Upgrade or buy a new

I can upgrade this computer or would it be better to buy a new one?

Everything depends on how it will be used.  The OS (Operating System) will need to be updated and it seems that your configuration would support the upgrade.  If it will be used for games or with heavy graphic based applications, so it might be a problem.  The graphics and audio are integrated to the motherboard and use the function system memory.  If the PC is just used for the basic things like e-mail or browse the web, update of the OS would be the least expensive way to go.  Remember that upgrading the operating system may also require legacy applications on the PC to upgrade also.  If you start to add up what needs to be updated, sometimes you will find it cheaper to buy a new.

  • HP Pavilion p6240f: upgrade RAM, Pavilion p6240f works not

    Greetings HP community.

Today, I'm working on a HP Pavilion p6240f. I am trying to install (2) 8 GB DDR3 1600 chips.  When I turn on the computer I hear 1 short beep and 1 long beep, which results in an error of memory.  Bought the wrong RAM?  Can I make it work?  I checked the BIOS and it seems that I have the version 5.11 of 29/09/2009 and no other version is available on the product Web page.

    Please help, thanks

    A

    Hello

The motherboard in the p6240f is only spec'd to use 2 GB DIMM modules.

Your first consideration should be Support HP or HP sales during the consideration of upgrades or replacement of memory. If you want to consider other manufacturers of the best way to avoid memory problems is to contact one of the leading manufacturers of memory. I would recommend that you try the tools of these manufacturers: Corsair, Kingston and Crucial. Once you have determined the DIMMs that you need, then contact commercial or technical support to check that you have selected the correct DIMMS. If you buy directly from manufacturers, then they will stand behind their products.

  • How to disable the integrated graphics card? HP Pavilion a6400f

I intend to install a new NVIDIA PCI-E x 16 video card, but my HP Pavilion a6400f comes with an Intel integrated graphics. I know that you need to disable the onboard graphics, but how? I checked the BIOS but couldn't find an option to turn it off. Any help?

You go to control panel, system maintenance, and then Device Manager. Scroll down and look for graphics cards, click the plus tab, click on the model of integrated graphics card you have. Then right click and a menu appears, select turn off and that's all. Then follow the instructions on your new graphics card. Good luck...

  • Pavilion a6400f: graph to run Windows 10?

My PC will satisfy the requirements of graphics for Windows 10?

The requirement is: 'graphics Microsoft DirectX 9 with WDDM driver '.

I have "Intel GMA 3100" according to HP for Pavilion a6400f spec.s.

    Thank you.

I think he should do just fine.

If you are not sure, you can try to install the developer preview to check the operation of the system.

But I don't know if you'll be able to get all the drivers for it.

If you do not want to test, remember to save all your data and programs.

If possible, create a proper backup of your current operating system. I don't want to end up with a PC that worked very well and got spoiled because of this

My Pavilion dv6 upgraded to windows 10 what happened to my external screen does not

    Hi @Jake08,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook and questions with external screen works not properly. You can try this without the connected external monitor.

In Device Manager, click the arrow next to display adapters to expand this category
Right-click on the graph, and then select Update driver software if more than 1 graphic adapter do 1 at a time.
Select search automatically for updated driver software.

The laptop must find and automatically install the updated driver
Once the installation is complete, restart your laptop.

You can try to use the Windows Update Troubleshooter to fix updates that do not come through Windows 10.  Please restart the laptop twice to make sure that all updates are completed!

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thank you.

  • Pavilion dv6-6156ea: display replacement

I need a litte help, earlier my screen woudnt turn on unless I bent the lid of my portable computer at a certain angle. Now, its competely went and even the Hp Logo that lights up in the back corner of the lid woud affected in the same way. So is it possible to replace the Ribbon for the screen of my Hp pavilion dv6-6156ea without replacing the whole screen and if so I'd like to help /suggestions on different parts of the source and replacement

any help will be greatly appreciated

Yes it is possible, but I'm not sure that's the problem. Have you tried an external monitor? Unless it's off to an external monitor the problem is not the ribbon cable to the screen or the screen of the Control Panel, but a motherboard problem.

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

    Cables:

For use only with models of computer in the shadow dark and grey steel finish 644362-001

For use only with models of computer gold butter, espresso black, linen white, blue Pacific, pink Pearlescent, Ruby and Red Red Sonoma finish 640423-001

If yours is gray it is the part that you need to replace the display cable:

    Seven bucks on eBay

For $ 7, it might be interesting to try a new cable but hanging on to an external monitor is free.

  • 2050sm: Pavilion g7 2050sm cpu replacement/upgrade

    Hello

After a few months I bought this laptop, I noticed high temperatures on CPU (70 + degrees celsius).

2 years have passed and my cpu temperature is now 110 + degrees celsius.

I put new thermal paste and cleaned the dust components because it was stop from overheating. It stops now now but the temperature is always 100 C + according to speccy.

Is it possible to upgrade the processor and that model, or is it better to just buy the new laptop?

    Thank you

Yes, the processor can be upgraded to a 10 - 4600M. Your A6 is actually the lower end of the spectrum for the g7-2000 series.

However, a more powerful processor is only going to running more hot, unless the heat is caused by the stress you place on it that case the A10 could be able to manage better. Laptops at base of AMD just tend to run hot and based on my personal preference, I've avoided them for the past 10 years or so. Computers laptops Intel can be very hot, too, but we just don't see as many problems. The A10 - 4600M cpu is not terribly expensive ($50 or less) and if you've been inside the laptop to work on the cooling system so that you know how to do the replacement. Personally, I think hard on a new laptop but I see also try just A10 processor on luck, it will run more fees. The A10 is packed with slightly better graphics APU then you would see an improvement if you play games on it.

If you do the upgrade remember to apply the thermal compound sparingly, just for the heart of processor and don't forget to clean the fan blades with a cleaner like rubbing alcohol.

  • HP Pavilion 17 f143no: the upgrade or replacement of the processor

Hello. I can switch processor on my HP Pavilion 17 - f143no Energy star for laptop, or it is integrated to the motherboard and it is not replaceable?

Here are the applicable maintenance manual:

    Manual download

Look at pages 26-28. Each motherboard has a different processor, so processors are welded on. In theory, you could buy one of the motherboards with a better processor (about one of them would be better than this thing AMD E1).

However, these motherboards with integrated processor tend to be very expensive.

  • Pavilion dv7-4080us: upgrade or replacement for dv7 4080us video graphics card

I want to know if I can upgrade the memory of my HP dv7-4080us graphics card. He did an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1 GB of DDR3 memory with up to 3738 MB total dedicated memory graphics card. What this means? I can put more memory or repalce the card? If so, what card should or can I get?

There is no 'card' you might be imagining. The video is one of the dishes chips soldered to the motherboard. You already have the best video system available for dv7-4000 series of laptops, so there is no way upward to something better.

  • Replacing hard drive HP Pavilion dv6500 (upgrade)

My HD just crushed and tries to find a new (better) compatible HD back in my computer.  Any suggestions or what card I need to pick up if it's compatible?

    Hello:

If you want good performance to a new hard drive, download a HDD SATA II 7 200 rpm of 500 GB or less.

Give the highest RPM faster search times but this will be at the expense of the life of the battery between charges.

It would be my first choice for a successor.

  • Pavilion 500-164: motherboard replacement raises Questions

Thanks, Malygris1, for your very comprehensive answer.  Unfortunately, I'm looking forward and installed the new Board of Directors.  For those faced with replacing a motherboard HP, I will elaborate on my trip.  The most important step was in buying for the motherboard.  I have no HP, but from a dealer on Ebay.  I DID, however, carefully note the model of the motherboard AND the designated HP part number of alternatives on a small paper on the motherboard label.  The same motherboard model is used in several models of HP Office; but, if the number of HP spare parts is matched, the info on the model should be on the motherboard.

My original problems were solved with the installation of the new Council.  After a router struck by lightning, the ethernet port had stopped working, and when told to stop, or in standby mode, the machine would invariably restart.  The new motherboard solved both problems, which seem to be related to the power surge.

I installed the new Board of Directors of the Windows 10 updated 500-164 and held my breath I have it powered for the first time.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that everything looked the same as when I left it.  Recognized support assistant the new Board of Directors as part of a desktop computer 500-164.  I have not tried; but I hope that the recovery media will work, if necessary.  Malygris1, do you think that if Support Assistant recognizes the info on the model, the recovery disks will work?  I'm curious to know how it works, but, if not, no big deal, as I now have a new image Acronis 10 Windows installation, which works perfectly on the 500-164 Pavilion (without "Pitfalls", as some have reported with audio, etc. of the wireless card.).

My second concern was whether or not Windows is always activated with the installation of the new Council.  He said that he "Windows is not activated.  ... Rats and other profanity.  I know it can take time to be put in correspondence with the info from Microsoft, so I updated the bios and checked the rest of the ports for the features of the machine.  I returned in configuration/system Panel and he told me that the activation information were "unavailable" - different from the message 'not active' sooner.  I've been waiting on this screen for a few minutes and the message changed to "Windows is activated"!  I was ready to make Microsoft telephone activation and I had run a keyfinder to get the original MS product key for Windows 8 from the hard drive, but I didn't have to use both methods.

So, in summary, if you want a card mother 'replacement', shop for the exact number of spare parts HP; not only the MFG part number.  It will save you a lot of grief.  Obviously, if you want to 'upgrade' from your motherboard, all bets are off, because it's a totally different scenario with different issues to deal with.  My project was a complete success at a cost of $103 for the new motherboard and several hours of my time.

  • Pavilion dvr7: upgrade memory for laptop

Hello forum could use some advice. My laptop is a (product of HP Pavilion dv7 notebook # XH108UAR #ABA) currently has two (2 GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600 s - 09-10-F2) of the memory installed modules in it. Can they be improved and replaced with the following memory modules:

    Kingston ValueRAM 4 GB Notebook Memory Module - 1333 MHz, DDR3 PC3-10600, SODIMM, CL 9, 204 pins, 1.5V - KVR13S9S8/4

If the answer is "Yes"; This will make a significant difference when it comes to operating speed and the ability to play some of the newer games that require more memory to play. If this isn't the good memory to upgrade my laptop with what I need and how much memory can I add to my system. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Hello

    The value maximum supported are 8 GB (2 x 4) DDR3 SODIMM.

    Manual

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02642701

Supports up to 8 GB of RAM in the following configurations
Memory ● total system of 8192 MB (4096 MB × 2, both channels)
    System memory total 6144 ● MB (4096 MB × 1 + 2048 MB × 1)
    Memory ● system total of 4096 MB (2048 MB x 2, dual-channel)
    Memory 4096 MB total system (4096 MB × 1) ●

The problem of the KVR modules is that sometimes does not work, if you are in the United States, one of the most interesting options is Crucial 1.35v - 1.5V DDR3 memory dual voltage

As suspects, it is a processor AMD E2. Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

It's the motherboard you have and it IS one where the processor and the motherboard are one piece.

For use only with models of computers with processors AMD E2-1800 and Windows 8 Standard 697230-501

The class E2 of processors is very low, as you have noticed. They are more like a netbook or Tablet processor rather than something that you want to use for the calculation of the grave. You could help the situation by increasing the memory of 8 GB (maximum) to remove the module from 2 gig you have and its replacement by a 4 GB. You could also install an SSD. You would spend about $150 between these two updates and I'm not sure it's worth. You will notice an improvement however but from memory and faster storage cannot completely lift the load from the central unit that must be part of the job and yours is just not up to the task.

Your laptop computer case fit a half-bridge AMD or Intel motherboard but you would have to buy the motherboard and processor as well and that the cost will be well over $150 and are approaching the cost of a new phone.

  • Pavilion dv6 1110ax motherboard replacement

    Hello

Recently my 1110ax BIOS corrupted and m unable to get by any way mrntioned on the forums.

Key combinations don't work not and this USB STICK.

Now the service center guys say that the motherboard has problem and must be replaced. which I doubt completely.

Is that what someone can say if I can keeping my existing AMD turion processor & card graphics ATI radeon 1 GB to save cost.

And is it possible to upgrade the processor and graphics card.

I had been using this laptop for 5 years now and really don't want to give up on this...

    Receive no response.

You can save the processor and the memory and the hard drive, but the video is part of the motherboard. The processor you have is:

AMD Turion RM-74 2.2 GHz with 2 MB of L2 cache

It's the fastest that can be installed:

    AMD Turion™ ZM-87, 2.4 GHz with 2 MB of L2 cache

A ZM-87 is about $40 on eBay and I'll tell you that it is not worth it for a ghz upgrade.2.

Radeon 1 GB video is upscale for the dv6-1000 series, so there is no better mother/video card.

    It's the motherboard:

    509450 001

It is a good deal at $78 for the Board of Directors:
