Pavilion g6: Hard Drive check: short DST failed

Hi, my laptop doesn't start, I managed the hard drive quick test, with the following report:

DST short failed

Failure ID: PLNORG-66H7LD-MFPX1G-60QB03

Product ID: B4Z95UA #ABL

This means that my hard drive is over? What I have to change? If I could retrieve the data I have on my C: drive?

Sébastien Debia

DST = disk Fail hard drive has not failed and must be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery disks. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can use a 750 GB hard drive, but not a 320 GB hard drive.

The default ID above refers to the failure of hard drive. You need to replace the hard drive, then reinstall the operating system once the hard drive is replaced.

    Hello

Error code 24 characters for short drive Self Test (DST) would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  It is also compatible with the issue of 'freeze' you mention.

As your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

    Hello

The ID of the failure will be either a Smart failure or disk Self Test - the two would indicate that your hard drive is defective and must be replaced.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disc replaced.

  • Satellite L750 - receive messages from ordinary this HARD drive is about to fail

    I have a laptop of PSK2YA - 04K 010 L750 Satellite.
I get regular messages that my hard drive is about to fail.
I backed up all my important stuff.
I did not the recovery discs until I started getting these messages.
I've been able to create a windows repair disc & also recorded an image of the hard drive on an external hard drive with no problem.

I bought and installed a Western Digital 750Go WD7500BPKT hard drive replacement.
I tried to do a system restore using the image I created on my external hard drive
"I get the following message appears a few seconds after the start of the reimage" the operation failed because of a device error encountered with the source or the destination. (0x8078012D)

I reassembled the original hard drive & make a set 4 DVD discs using the Toshiba Recovery shortcut.
I put the Western Digital drive HARD back in & run these discs. Disk1 ran right to the end, then put in disk2 wouldn't do anything, the drawer of the DVD would keep opening asking me to put in the disk.
Don't really know where to go now & am hoping to get a few ideas from people in the know or have been here before.

    HHHHeelp please

    > I tried to do a system recovery using the image I created on my external hard drive

How did you create this image?

    > I put the Western Digital drive HARD back in & run these discs. Disk1 ran right to the end, then put in disk2 wouldn't do anything, the drawer of the DVD would keep opening asking me to put in the disk.

It looks like the 2nd disc can be read correctly or the 2nd disc was not created correctly.

I first recommend you to clean the lens of the laser of the reader of CD/DVD alcohol or cotton tip.
Then try to run the installation by using the recovery disk once more.
In case this isn't possible, your recovery disk is defective.

If the recovery disk that is faulty, you have an option to order here:
    http://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

The 2nd option would be clean Microsoft Windows disk usage.
Missing drivers may be downloaded from the Toshiba UE driver page.

    Hello

Your laptop is listed as coming with a 750 GB 5400 RPM hard drive, but you can replace this with a 750 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive for a little more performance - the reader on links below is an example that would be perfect for your laptop.

    750 GB hard drive.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 52 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery media to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - this is described in the document of HP here.

If you do not have your recovery media, you can order a replacement set using the link below (I assumed the model No., you live in the United Kingdom).

    Order HP recovery disks.

  • Pavilion 2206TX: hard drive DST short test failed

Hard drive DST short test failed.

For a few days, my laptop is not starting.

Run the diagnostics showed "hard drive DST short test failed.

I removed the hard drive [brand Toshiba] and connected as an external drive to a Mac.

I am able to access your hard drive and copy some content from it. So, it looks like a problem with the hard drive.

Is this a problem with the connection of harrdisk to the motherboard or with the hard drive itself?

    Help, please.

    Hello

Yes, you can use your friend recovery media in your. It should work.

I'm not able to find a recovery media for your model of third-party vendors too.

No, you can't create USB recovery by plugging the old drive as external references to another PC. You have to use HP application recovery manager supplied with your laptop and create a set. I think that you will not be able to do from a failing drive.

My computer was working fine last night, then today everything worked slower and things started to freeze sometimes. • Drive hard short DST failed the test at startup

I use a Compaq Notebook PC CQ58 and were not able to boot from the tenth day of may I'm in Windows 8.
I tried to understand what was wrong and used F2 for boot test. My "short hard drive DST' has no amd I don't know how to solve this problem, can someone

    Hi Hank,

F2 to start test is a feature on HP computers to check if there are problems with the hardware components of the computer. DST short for hard disk error means that there is a problem with the hard drive and must be replaced.

If the computer is under warranty, you can contact HP Support and get this replaced and if the computer is not under warranty, you can buy a new hard drive for this computer and get this fixed number.

If you need additional information, you can come back.

  • HP Pavilion: HP Pavillion - short DST failed

    Hello

A few nights ago my boyfriend started having problems when using his HP laptop. When he tries to turn it on, it says 'Prepare auto-start Recovery', and then the screen goes black after about 5 minutes. We got to start when, startup recovery where it says what percentage of it has been completed. It took a long time, we need to let it go for a while.  Then, when we came back to it, there was a black screen again. Now, he's just a screen black wiithout having spent "ASR start preparing."

We finally understood how to get to the UEFI diagnosis HP. The DST of short and long check all two failed with the following numbers:

    Failure ID: QAJPW1-6PN7H6-MFPWXG-60R803
    Product ID: E0J81UA #ABA

    Component test: failed

The laptop is only a year and a half, and he takes really good care of him. I do not understand why the hard drive Miss already, especialy because it has not abandoned at all.

I know that it has not changed everything in there at all.
    Of course, security is off.

He needs to buy a new hard drive, or we can do to try to save him?

It certainly takes a new hard drive. There is a good chance to move to an SSD.
