PC Backup in the iMac desktop folder

Hi all.  I need help any iMac user who also have a Win10 PC, who has resolved to support problem until Win10 a folder on the desktop iMac computer. Yes maybe that's a problem of Win10 sending data, but I'm looking for help in case it comes to Mac data reception problem.

On my laptop 2 Yoga Pro running Windows 10 Pro, I connected successfully to the network location \\IMAC27\Desktop\BackupYoga.  (For some reason, Win10 backup labels itself as Windows 7 but I don't think this is related).

The backup seems to start normally and runs for maybe 10 to 15 minutes without the slightest trace of error and with the progress shown on the progress bar. However he ends up by doesn't end, and I don't know why.  See two screenshots.  Some advice from someone who has solved this problem?  Thank you.

I guess that's via SMB on the network, that's going to choke when it encounters a file more than 4 GB.

  • the Windows desktop folder structure

The standard classification of windows 'computer, desktop, my documents' has been changed and I now several "desktop" and the sub folder 'My documents', containing the same files and documents. If I try to eliminate one, records and documents are also eliminated. By dragging a subfolder in the top folder does not either.  How to eliminate these subfolders and return to the standard vista classification structure for files and documents.

Do not use 'Old' - simply the old username on its own.  If it is not there, then you have bigger problems because you have lost the profile and which can be difficult to recover.  And you should not need to look for it - just go to it since you know where it is (or where it should be).  It is that the administrator means only something, if it's the only active administrator on the system - you must be an administrator to do.  I gave instructions on the use of the AHA in the case where this is the case and you may need to do that (sorry I can't help you with a French translation, because even if I took the French at school, I forgot the most now - 35 or more years later with essentially no use in the meantime).

Here are my general guidelines on how to recover lost files and folders in Vista (and it may take some time if you have lost the whole profile and you may have lost some data if you use the HDD in the meantime):

If you have Vista Business, Vista Ultimate or Vista Enterprise, you can be lucky.  They have so-called saves shadow copies, which are deleted or modified files that can be recovered in case changes/deletions made by mistake.  http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-Vista/features/shadow-copy.aspx more information about how to use this feature to: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/howdoi/?p=145.

If you have Vista Basic or Premium of Vista, shadow copies is not available; However, there is an alternative that is free and the shadow copies feature called Shadow Explorer. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/recover-files-with-shadow-copies-on-any-version-of-windows-vista/.  Although it will not help you this time, it could very well save you in case this happens again.

In case this does not work (not all files are available through shadow - it occurs periodically), here are some additional free recovery programs that might help:

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html (first try Recuva)

http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/DiskDigger.html (try it then if Recuva does not work)

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/easusdfr.html

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/restoration.html

    http://www.SoftPerfect.com/products/FileRecovery/

    http://techpaul.WordPress.com/2008/06/23/how-to-recover-your-lost-files/

The files are not really deleted until they are crushed (although they are no longer available through conventional methods).  If you decide to try these recovery programs, you should stop using your drive hard immediately in order not to replace the data that you are trying to recover.  He slave on another PC and launch the recovery of this PC.  Even now you have definitely lost some of them if you use the same PC.  If you can not do this (slave on another PC), you run the risk of overwriting the data with every action you do on the PC (but you may still be able to recover some or most or even all files - it's a matter of luck).

Only you can decide if the data is important enough to take the PC to an expert data recovery to recover files (they will have better programs and hardware to do that none of us do, and I've provided above).  Do NOT go to the Geek Squad or one of these centers of store-, they generally don't know what they are doing - it take for expert data recovery.  It will cost you a little and they generally offer no guarantees.  The decision is yours.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

What is the price of media card (say 1 GB).

on your device, you have internal memory (aka the device memory) and you have a microSD (aka memory support).
memory support can be seen by your PC using USB mass storage (which you can do on the first Blackberry).
the device memory can not be seen like that. The Roxio Media Manager can do that, as well as a module of the Desktop Manager 4.7 (does not work on 4.6 and earlier).

a Sandisk 4 GB media card costs cheaper 4USD on Amazon.

  • Restore the Office Public folder

I have a problem in a laboratory on the Dell Optiplex 745 computers. In this workshop, there are 29 computers initially running Vista SP2. I cloned all 29 computers to Windows 7 Professional SP1. After I cloned these computers, I found 15 of them, the Public Desktop folder is missing. All other public folders (Documents, music, photos, etc.) are visible. What happens to all the accounts of profiles (Admin, teacher, student). It doesn't matter who is connected to one of the 15 computers. This isn't a unique profile corruption problem.

I have show hidden files, folders, disks and I have disabled the 3... hide boxes. It is not restore the Office Public folder.

I tried the file REG RESTORE. Nothing.

I've tried searching Office Public folder. Nothing.

    I restarted the computer.

I play ALL of these tests under an administrator account. Since the student on these 15 computers files, I can not re - clone these computers or can I do a repair on these computers. I don't want to take the risk of data loss. There must be way to restore the Office Public folder WITHOUT cloning or the repair of these computers.

I tried to log on as LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR to resolve the problem to one of these computers. Also, I tried the administrator account to correct the problem.  Two of these accounts does not solve the problem

    Hello

    • What version of Winodws XP do you use?

    Unfortunately, it is not possible.

You can use the backup utility to back up files and folders on a computer that is running Windows XP.

If you use Windows XP Home Edition, you can refer to the following steps:

Before you can back up important information on your computer, you must install the backup utility. The backup utility is included on the Windows XP Home Edition CD.

Note If you do not have the original CD of Windows XP Home Edition of Windows XP was preinstalled on your computer, contact the computer manufacturer or visit the Web site of the manufacturer for more information. You can also use the backup software that you purchase separately.

To install backup from the Windows XP CD:

    1. Insert your Windows XP CD into the CD or DVD from the computer player.
    2. Click exit.
    3. Locate the: \ValueAdd\Msft\Ntbackup folder on the CD.
    4. Double-click ntbackup.msi to install the backup utility.
    5. When the backup or Restore Wizard prompts you, click Finish.
    6. Remove the Windows XP CD.

Now that you have installed the backup utility, you are ready to back up your important information.

If you use Windows XP Professional, to back up your files and folders, follow these steps:

Note To back up files and folders, you must be connected to the computer as an administrator or as a user who belongs to the Administrators group. To verify that you are connected to Windows with a user account is an administrator on the computer, see the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/GP/Admin (http://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin)

Note The following steps explain how to use the backup utility to back up your files and folders manually. You can also use the backup and Restore Wizard to back up your files and folders. However, the steps will be slightly different from those that are listed in the next section.

Step 1: Open the backup utility

    1. Click Startand then click run.
    2. Type ntbackup.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.

Note If you receive the following error message, make sure that you followed the steps in the "how to install the backup utility" section correctly:

Step 2: Select the items to back up and select the location for the backup file
    1. Click Advanced Mode.

Note If the backup and Restore Wizard, the utility runs in Wizard mode. You can click to clear the always start in Wizard mode check box, and then restart the backup utility. • In the menu of task , click new.
  • Select the check boxes next to the drives you want to back up. If you select files or folders, expand the drive where these files or folders. Then, select the check boxes for the files or folders you want to back up.

  • Step 3: Start the backup

    1. To open the backup information dialog box, click Start Backup .
    2. Under If the media already contains backups, perform one of the following:
      • If you want to add this backup file to previous backup files, click append this backup to the media. This option adds the new backup in the existing backup file so that you can keep all the previous backups in a single file. This option is useful if you ever want to restore a backup from a specific day. Be aware that the size of the backup file will increase with each new backup. You can monitor the file size to make sure that it does not fill your hard drive over time. If the file becomes too large, you should consider saving the file on an external hard drive. Or, if you are concerned about the file using too much hard disk space, select replace the data on the media with this backup instead.
      • If you want to replace the files of previous backup with this backup file, click replace the data on the media with this backup. This option is useful if you want to keep the current backup and do not care to keep the previous backups. Or, use this option if you are concerned about the file using too much disk space on your computer.
    3. Click Advanced.
    4. Select the check box Verify data after the backup .
    5. In the Backup Type box, click the type of backup that you want to create. For a description of each type of backup, click the backup type and the description appears under "Description." You can select all of the following types of backup:
      • Normal
      • Copy
      • Incremental
      • Premium
      • Every day
    6. Click OK, and then click Start Backup. A backup progress dialog box appears, and the backup starts.

Step 4: Leave the backup utility

    1. When the backup is complete, click close.
    2. In the menu of task , click exit.

  • Firefox creates "desktop" folder on the desktop whenever I have download

So I just installed Firefox on my new laptop, and whenever I download something, Firefox creates a "Desktop" folder on the desktop and download of the sticks in there. I used to be able to download directly on the desktop, but with this version, I can't. I tried tools > Options > save files to, but whenever I have click on the Browse button and select the location of my desired download (office under the "Favorites" section), Firefox ignores and sets the path as C:\Users\User1\Desktop\Desktop. Is it possible to fix this? It is extremely irritating.

See if it works for you as it does for me.

    1. Create a new folder on the desktop labeled downloads (or any other name),
    2. Open tools > Options-> general
    3. Downloads, click on the Browse button and select the new downloads folder that you just created.

Firefox wants a "folder name" for downloads, by specifying the 'bureau' only or won't 'Favorites '. When you try to force the issue, the name of the folder will mimic what the user is trying to specify. In your case, it created the folder "Desktop" on the desktop. Yes, it's different from previous versions of Firefox, but this change took place ago - many versions so it is not really 'new' any longer.

  • My 1st generation iPod touch can not save on my iMac El Capitan but can to my MacBook Snow Leopard ' 08. Why the iMac think that the backup is corrupt?

Of course, I'm using my iMac El Capitan, but when I bought the music today and went to add to my iPod touch iTunes ended up freezing. Long story short, I could delete the files from the iPod but can not add one; Adding a single song led to suspended iTunes and the cancellation of the synchronization via the iPod of course makes no difference.

After going through all the rigamarole any attempt to delete all backups for iPod, both through preferences and in/Library/Application Support / MobileSync / Backup, I always had the same problem. I can't add music on my iPod via the iMac, nor can I save it there. Yes, I rebooted.

And so, after many tears, I pulled out my MacBook ' 08, who narrowly missed the cut for El Capitan and so still has Snow Leopard. And now my iPod backed up very well! (I cursed myself for not to copy previous backup before it was replaced, but hey.) They are all under the same Apple ID, so at this point, I'm simply redownloading all of my new purchases on the ol' MacBook ' so I can add it to the iPod... but how long this will be a viable solution? (I realize using products Apple since 2008 is an affront, but you've got to do what you do I do, and I don't currently have pocket for 32 GB change.)

So the question. Is there an incompatibility of software between my 1st generation iPod touch (3.1.3) and my iMac (El Capitan with iTunes 12.3.2.35 10.11.3)? Is there really a degree of corruption here than Snow Leopard with iTunes 10.6.8 11.4 (18) does not recognize?

(My apologies for what is the format, I still haven't managed to brevity, and these a few hours researching in it made me frustrated).

Edit: I forgot to mention that I tried to copy on the backup freshly prepared from the MacBook on the iMac and received the same exact error message.
