  Call your Internet service provider and they will reset your password to something that you can use to sign once and then create a new password.  Use something that got letters and numbers, but do something, that you can remember!  :-)

  AVG anti virus is definitely not bad. As others have said, there are 'better' anti anti-virus there applications (not Norton or McAfee).

  Of course, if you use Windows 8 then unnecessary AVG that you already have Windows Defender. It is also an anti virus / anti-Malware application.

  AVG can be easily uninstalled via the screen of programs and features in Control Panel. Just look for the AVG entry in the list programs, click on it and it should start to uninstall.

  It would seem that your registry database has been changed in order to disable the functioning of all. EXE file. You need to restore it, but cannot use regedit.exe to do. Solution: make a copy of the regedit.exe regedit.comappointed.

  Open a command prompt by typing the Windows key + R and type cmd then hit . Type in this commnd:

  copy c:\windows\regedit.exe regedit.com

  ... and click on . Next type:

  Start regedit.com

  ... and click on .

  In the RegEdit program, navigate to the registry:

  If you burn to a DVD disc in first items 10 and later versions, some choices are

  a. DVD-VIDEO standard screen or 4:3 16:9 on DVD disc

She was correct and I found and cleaned several threats to his machine. Even created a Kaspersky bootable cd and did a cleanup of that. I managed to get rid of all viruses detected at this stage. I ran full scans with Kaspersky, AVG, Norton 360, Spybot, Adaware, Webroot and Hitman Pro. All the latter reported no threat. Machine has always been very slow, so I started following discussions here. I used msconfig to take everything on commissioning. I have optimized, defragmented, and managed to get rid of unused programs. I've been following son and make all the suggestions I found for over a month and still crawling along. I used a timer to Boot XP to see how long it has taken for the computer to boot, and he returned with 770 seconds, or nearly 13 minutes.   One thing that is often overlooked when startups/performance troubleshooting HARD drive Transfer Mode setting.  This applies only to IDE (not the SATA drives) drives.  If transfer Modes slipped DMA in PIO, you'll have a system "lame".

  AVG, Norton and Spybot are known hogs CPU and memory so if you have those installed and enabled that could be part of the problem, but if you have disabled the throughout the msconfig may be that it is not.  Installation of too many AV programs is not always a good thing.  It is possible to have too much protection on your system.

  You use Bootlog XP to get these hours?  It is a good tool to find why your bootstrap system takes so long so that it starts.  A nice bar chart to show you that everything is being done and you focus on long horizontal lines in the table and work on these areas.

  When you reinstall Windows correctly, you start from the CD. Is it
  what you were doing?

  If so, the installation starts formatting the disk for you, then all the
  your files are gone.

  And by the way, reinstalling Windows due to an infection by the virus is
  almost always way exaggerated. There are several very good anti-virus
  programs that could probably removed the virus for you.
