BitLocker without TPM refuses to recognize the USB key at startup.
I have a Windows 7 PC, I'd need to BitLocker, but it fails to recognize the USB key at startup. I've resorted to skip verification and now enter the recovery key every time you start (this PC has a lot of data on what should be confidential), but it's not ideal.
What is curious to me, is that the computer will start perfectly fine from a USB key, or produce a message of type "non system disk or disk error", if the USB key in question is not bootable. So it is not a matter of lack compatibility USB BIOS. When Bitlocker should read, yet there is no actifvity on the USB key. It seems to just try to read the empty floppy drive then give up.
The PC is an all-in-one RM with an Intel D915GX motherboard.
I tried two different USB, 64 megabytes cheapo player drives I usually use as a Bitlocker key and a 2 GB Cruzer Blade. I mucked with some of the BIOS settings but not in a particularly organized way. And I checked the key file is saved on the disk. Everything I did, Bitlocker will not always see the USB.
Any suggestions?

Hello
I bought this product last year, so my warranty wore off.
My laptop is overheating and it is very slow at this point (even videos are not working well). I tried to clean it up but it was without result. I want the game and computationally intensive applications, but I'm afraid of the motherboard or hard drive failure.
Now to the point. I can't install the new OS, any OS because this laptop doesn't have a DVD player and it doesn't recognize any usb 2.0 or 3.0. I tried to change the options in the Bios and I tried to uninstall and install the drivers (they are up to date).
What should I do? I can't install a new system because of this problem, and I can't use anything more demanding than youtube which is really annoying since this laptop has good specifications.
I am currently running Windows 8.1 which I got when I made a purchase.
I hope someone answers!
Thank you.
EDIT: In the Device Manager it says device not installed with yellow exclamation point. By Usb or ext hdd. And it will not find the device-specific drivers. As I never need them on another PC or laptop.

Hello
Have you noticed yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager next to USB host controllers?
Check it!Even if the yellow exclamation points are not visible in the Device Manager I recommend to remove the USB host controllers and root device manager USB hubs and restart the laptop again.
Wait that all USB controllers will be recognized by Windows and retest your external USB devices.Good bye

Windows does not recognize the USB key.
For the last few weeks, Windows was not grateful for my USB key.
I tried 3 Memory Sticks and even my iPod, sync with iTunes.
When I tried to solve the problems, my devices non-windows alerted saying me that he is unable to solve the problems.
This means that there is no problem with my devices, but with Windows itself.
I would be grateful for any suggestion.
I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ61, which runs on Windows 7.
Sticks of memory are unrelated to this problem... Youre OS needs to
have the USB, & its other hardware pc configured with the operating system... If intel pc, based on
go to intel.com/support/software/drivers
Use the update utility intel (pc auto scans), or locate it manually. The installation of the chipset
utility, whats lacking. This installs the controllers USB/network/sound & video
the operating system, other software is probably due also, as the update of windows
has not installed.

Windows XP SP3 has ceased to recognize a USB flash drive and card reader that he always acknowledged in the past. I tried to use Fix - It to correct the problem. Fix - It is then asked to restart the computer. When the computer is restarted, it would not load. After waiting almost two hours, I restarted with the last good configuration. Then reloaded, it took nearly an hour. Before using the Fix - It, the computer was loading in less than five minutes after a reboot. There a lot of things on it. What can I do now to solve the problem posed by Fix - It and also correct the problem with XP recognizes does not flash drives?
Hi lental,

· You're able to boot in safe mode?
Follow these methods.
Method 1: Follow these steps:
Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode and check if the problem persists.
Step 2: If the problem does not still in safe mode, perform a clean boot to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

File Explorer Windows 8 crashes whenever I do a right click on the USB key.
File Explorer Windows 8 crashes every time I do a right click on installed - everything - USB or flash key and try to choose options, such as format, rename them or properties. Windows Explorer crashes, closed its doors, and I'm sent back to the Start Page. This happens with any USB key, on one of the ports on my computer, which I have at least 10.
I can left click on USB in the file Explorer, and held one still able to open or interact with any file in the USB. I can save to the USB port of any other program, and I can usually eject it in the taskbar. The only problem is I can't do a right click on the USB key and select a function without kicks back to the start page and the file Explorer is restarted.
My version of Windows 8 is an upgrade to Windows 7. I have already tried a restart secure, and even in this State, the accident continues.
I had the same problem with any flash/stick/key USB on my system (64-bit) Windows 8 Pro. I started out of the blue, had not installed a new software or updates. I couid do a right-click on the drive and get the menu, but any action in the menu I chose stop and restart Windows Explorer (without any error message.) I also tried the cleanboot approach with no luck.
The solution that worked was to move the mouse to the bottom left of the screen and right click.
Select prompt (Admin)
in the cmd window, type:
sfc/scannow
and press ENTER.
After about 15 minutes (about 4 minutes to check and then a little more than 11 minutes waiting while he was working in the background - but it seemed frozen. My system is an i7, 16 GB of Ram, 512 GB SSD drive - so your time may vary), I received a message that some corrupt files had been repaired and some had not. The newspaper was in a txt file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS if the log file was inaccessible. I got a popup access denied .
I rebooted the system and everything was fine and the problem of USB has been fixed. -
It is a follow-up question. My external drives appear in the section work stations. I can access them by along w / the files on it. It's a question that when I'm going to try to send items to readers (all 3 ports) do not recognize that there is a link there. Then, when I click right on and down to ' send to ' drives external hard for these ports (3) none of them don't introduce yourself here indicating that there is a drive attached to it. Therefore, I'm unable to send files to / them. Any port I use at this time.
Is there a place in my computer, where I have a check to see if I have inadvertently disabled? It is a supplementary question that I asked yesterday. Involving essentially the same thing. Then I asked how to send files to my external as disc it does not see the the "send to" when right-clicking. I received a reply and it worked. But it is simply to create a shortcut for the command in the file send to.
Since I have now come to realize that this is a problem w / all my readers and it's true, create shortcuts for each reader, that I finally hang up the USB hubs will work, it's kind of just put a bandage on the main issue. Problem being, why aren't my grateful USB keys when there is something related to them.
They have worked in the past. And the only way that they recognize that everything is connected to them is now for me to create a shortcut in the folder send to. Once again, the problem is with Ports USB works not as it should.
Help, please.
Thank you

USB key used in iMac unrecognized by any other device
Hi all, I recently encountered a problem using USB keys with my iMac 2010 10.11.3 running OSx.
My iMac will recognize UBS sticks and allow me to save documents and files for them, but when I insert into any other device (e.g. a few friend PC and Macs, professional printers to Officeworks etc.) the USB stick is not recognized and does not see the same on their system. Then when I insert the USB in my iMac, it is recognized immediately as well as its content.
Before that, I was able to share files and documents with family, friends and clients on USB with no problems at all.
I tried a variety of different USB keys (old and new) and what is happening to all of them, whatever the brand, age, size, etc. Is produced only for a few months and at first I was in denial and thought that it was my friend PC, but now I see that it is certainly a problem with my iMac. He may have started happening around the same time that when I upgraded to IE Captain earlier this year.
Any ideas please?
Thank you.
eccydee
The fact that this happens with different computers suggests that the problem could be the configuration.
Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk utility. Insert your flash key and look at the settings. It may look like this:
Everything on this list must be verified. While you're there, see if your USB is correctly configured:

Windows recognizes most any USB device into a port any.
Hi, my problem started as my Logitech Wireless Mouse M187 has not been recognized by Windows7. A box came to say A key USB has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize... Initially, the problem disappeared when I turned off for a while, then restarted. Now 3 days later he's back. Windows doesn't recognize any device in any port. I tried my printer and modem mobile broadband with the same answer. I uninstalled all USB host controllers and restarted them but there is nothing. Any advice would be appreciated.
brencozIt looks like a hardware problem. Start by unplugging everything what is not necessary, leaving nothing but your keyboard, mouse and monitor. See if one of the ports work now.
It is quite possible that you encounter a heat problem. If this is a desktop computer, remove the side of the housing to blow any dust, animal hair, etc. that may be on the blades of the fan and the heat sink. Don't forget that there is enough space around it for good circulation.
If it's a laptop, use a can of compressed air to blow the dust of aeration.Leave the PC turned off, for a good, sit while to make sure that it is at room temperature. Turn it on and immediately check the USB port. The device works as it should? Leave the PC on during some time and look at a port. If this does not work after warming up well, then you have certainly a hardware problem, probably the side power on the motherboard. You may have watched it professionally :-(
