I noticed that I have the software "PC Health Advisor" on my desktop.  I don't think that I download.  What is an automatic download of MS?  Use this software to clean my computer?  Thank you

"PC Health Advisor" is certainly not an automatic download from Microsoft.  However, a Google search indicates that it might be a legitimate program (see www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Technology/Computers/Question914473.html and other Google hits).

"PC Health Advisor" claims he can identify and remove malware.  There are good alternatives - and I think he should pay for "PC Health Advisor", if you want to use one of its features of withdrawal.

"PC Health Advisor" also includes a "registry cleaner".  However, you don't need to use a registry cleaner, and unless you really know what you are doing, I will not let it loose on your computer.  Either incidentally, I occasionally use a free program called Ccleaner to remove '_' of my computers.  However, I do not use the Ccleaner registry optional cleaner.

Windows XP provides its own tools cleaning, including (C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc) Disk Defragmenter and disk cleanup (C:\WINDOWS\system32\cleanmgr.exe) - so I don't know if there is much of interest to pay for using "PC Health Advisor".

Furthermore, I would be very suspicious intruder program that suddenly appeared on my desk.  There are far too many fake security programs that can infect computers in Win XP.  I have no way of knowing if the "PC Health Advisor" version on your computer is legitimate - and even if it is authentic, I don't know if it's all good.  Therefore, I recommend attention.

I recommend that you run a full scan with your usual security software.  I recommend also to download and install the free versions of Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware on your computer.  (These utilities have a good reputation to find and remove malware that escape detection by other security programs).

Automatically search for updates for both programs.  Then, perform a scan with Malwarebytes, followed by a full scan with SuperAntispyware. Alternatively, you can perform a scan of ESET online (www.eset.com/online-scanner).

  • Satellite C660 - some Web page icons do not work

First of all please forgive me for being very naïve about the functioning of the laptop. I know a little but nothing more than how to perform analyses of virus/malware and surf the net.

I have a laptop C660 - R15 (PSC0LE). I started to have problems with IE8 in windows 7 (it came with the laptop). I noticed that some Web page icons or menus will not work. At first I thought it was a problem of java so made sure that I was running the latest version. But it still persists. So I then upgraded to IE9 that Windows 7 has suggested. This is where the problem has increased.

I can not yet use icons on Web pages and also my laptop now works very very slow when I try to open folders/programs. Internet works ok (ish) but sometimes goes all too slow.

I upgraded my BIOS for a keyboard problem, I had (it had been delayed evil), which fixed the problem and I also ran program PC Health Advisor who said I need some driver updates.

Is it a Windows 7 problem? Or is there anything else I should look at?

Keep your answers in terms of base because I admit openly that I am strongly a technophob with regard to the functioning of the laptop.

It seems that my question has been moved, but it is still. Also the computer is trolling again and it is sometimes so bad that it takes more than 3 minutes to sort. Even when I Ctrl, alt & del it takes forever for the Task Manager start to appear. Any ideas?

I recently used Paretologic PC Health Advisor to correct what I thought, it was a mistake in the registry. rather, this program has changed my power settings so that when I close the lid of the laptop, the laptop turns off. I uninstalled the program and removed everything from my laptop. However, I can not the portable to the State before the program all messed up. I want the laptop to go to sleep when I close the lid, not to turn off the unit.

I went to Control Panel, power options, chose the closing the cover, but under options, I get that: do nothing, hibernate, shut down my wifes laptop (exactly the same as mine, purchased together) lists the sleep, not hibernate. I tried the Hibernate, but he died too.

I use the power setting recommended HP and has been devoted to the plan and restored settings by default for this plan.  I also used: powercfg - restoredefaultschemes

  • Why can't I install Turbotax 2010 Home and Business in XP?

Several months ago, I installed Turbotax 2010 Home and Business in XP Pro and set up two returns. A few weeks later, I went back and TurboTax would not. Thinking that the files have been corrupted, I uninstalled TTH & B and tried to re - install from the CD, only to receive error messages. So I tried to use the cleanup tool, which partially worked, but I still get error messages. Other things I've tried only to get the error Stops include:

1 clean the registry both manually and with the cleaning tool
    2. clean the files .net (3.5 and below)
    3 reinstall XP
    4 reinstall MS Installer.
5 copy the disc on my desktop and install - always get error messages.
    6. cancellation of registration and record msiexec.exe
7 detection and cleaning with StopZilla Reg Cure and PC Health Advisor (which is SUPPOSED to fix)
8 Mode installation without fail, at the command prompt and in other modes
    9. other methods

If you can help, I would be very happy.

What are the error messages?  Word for Word, please.

What "cleaning tool" specifically?  What is "partially worked?  How could you say this partially worked mystery cleanup tool?

    • #1, second part, of least not such a great idea - even if your machine...
    • #2, which means "cleaning"?  Versions of the .NET Framework are all independent.  Just because you have later does not mean that you have all the versions you need.
    • #3, that * you * average by reinstalling?  Repair?  Or real format and install?
    • #4, OK...  You must have had a reason for this?
    • #5, interesting - approach and yet you still don't give error messages?
    • #6, OK...  You must have had a reason for this also?
    • #7, I have no words to #7...
    • #8, okay - I can see which ones are something to try...
    • #9, the #9 was really necessary to add?  * smile *.

  • blue screen and a loud noise after I installed a game

Please can someone tell me why, my computer froze after downloading a trial version of a game from Big Fish Games, then a blue screen with white lettering came to tell me something about the stop and he was accompanied by this horrible vibrating noise! I could not "escape" or do the "control/alt/delete" that the system has frozen right on this blue screen with that noise going. I thought that the pc was going to explode! I finally had to unplug the power cord and remove the battery to get him to stop. I reinstalled the battery and power cord and restarted and it is slow in coming to the top, but with my icons of the game but done and performed normally. I uninstalled this game here, but today when you view a Youtube video, he did it again.

Help? Should I download this ParetoLogic PC Health Advisor?

Vibrating him maybe to do with the hard drive... I would like to launch a material check to see if its ok

  • Alureon Rootkit bar me bad. HELP Please!

Hello dear users of Windows. This is my first post here, because the problem is so serious that even I could not remove it (or I don't know I did).

    Problem:

I was infected by the famous Alureon rootkit.

    Reason:

I think it has been updated for Windows. I updated Windows 2 months ago, and after it had to restart windows. I restarted windows and it loads perfectly, but when I click on Internet Explorer to make sure that no new updates, my computer was attacked by at least 10-13 virus/worms. My AV-> Avast! Internet Security is crazy, it was like: a thread has been detected, was detected a thread, a thread has been detected, a thread has been detected so I did not wait for him to remove them I was very shocked so I emidietly restart the computer. It's my BIGGEST mistake. After reboot avast cleaned a few worms in the temporary folders, but these verses have been just a small fry. The real deal is that Alureon that injected somewhere

    Symptoms:

-L' massive attack on Internet Explorer.

-Blue screens of death at startup pointing to important system files, windows will load after reboot of the 5th.

-Sometimes I get Restrictions folders-> your security current settings do not allow you... blah blah (change of the configuration)

What I used to optimize the pc and remove the errors & virus (Optimizors):

    -Win XP Optimizer: 4 times

    -Error Repair Professional: 4 times

-Speed UP My PC: 4 times

    -PC Health Advisor: 4 times

    -Driver Scanner: 4 times

    -CCleaner: 4 times

    -Registry Mechanic: 4 times

    -Advanced System Optimizer: 4 times

    -Your Uninstaller: 4 times

    -HiJackThis: 2 times

-Malicious Microsoft Software Removal Tool: 2 times

    - Avast! Internet Security: 1 all the discs, normal, max and 1 System Boot Scan

I tried stuff even more (they are my usual optimizers)... nothing

    I want to add:

It is a lot worse then it sounds at first. He even tried some of my ACC, even now, all that remains are the blue screens at startup. Avast! Security is one of the best AV out there it scans everything that happens and I have no notification of rootkits since it happened. I know he's hiding it's self, but I can't even see it running in the Task Manager... I guess it runs only until windows loads... PLEASE HELP ME!

    P.S.:

-Formatting the drives, reinstall Windows, updated for Windows Vista/7 or Linux or any other operating system are not an option.

@joelj1964 - Yah... Thanks for nothing...

@ GTS - NJ - UM, um, that I realized, he could not be Alureon, BUT DID I had put it to day in-depth Windows and Yes, I did managed to remove it.

    Here's how I did it:

I turned on Avast! Shields of Internet Security to the MAX

I Ran Kaspersky Lab tool for rootkits, it finds only c:\windows\system32\drivers\sptd.sys locked

Other rootkit removal tools I ran were Buster of Sopshos Anti-Rootkit, Gmer, Rootkit, Rootkit Revealer.

They found a large number of infected files sys I removed and restered with those in SafeMode (sfc/scannow) clean (I have not found in a big box store so the stuff above... I am my only computer scientist, sorry = /)

A ran my default optimizers and updated many drivers restore those infected

Results: System running faster, faster start-up, there wasn't No 10/05/20 system restarts before loading windows-online WINDOWS 10 LATEST UPDATES ACT AS THEY have not been INSTALLED.

My Question: When the windows updates will be safe for users of Windows XP new :((

I thank very you much for the replies!
