PDF files insists on opening up to an older version of Acrobat

For several years, I had an installation of Acrobat 9 Pro installed on my Windows machine.  It came with the suite CS4.  More than a year ago, I upgraded to the Standard X Version and none of the two versions have any problems or conflicts.   Yesterday, Acrobat ran an update, and since then, all my PDF files have begun to open in Version 9.    Manually, I opened Version 10 and went into preferences and set Version 10 as the default PDF Viewer.  However, if it applies to these changes, I see a dialog boxes that it is in fact of the "changes" to Version 9.  Files will always open with Version 9, even after trying this twice (more 2 system restarts).    I tried to uninstall the Version 9 via the Control Panel, but Acrobat 9 is not yet listed with installed programs.  Is it because it is part of the suite CS4?

Also, if I click with the right button on a PDF in Windows Explorer and click on "Open with", Acrobat 10 even does not appear as an option.   I click 'Browse' to search for Version 10 manually, but when I click OK, the file will ALWAYS open with Version 9.  Frustrating...

Anyone have any ideas?

Diane

Hello

With CS4 uninstaller, you can select Acrobat 9 Pro from the list and keep the other products in the suite on the machine. This allows to uninstall Acrobat 9 Pro.

Thank you

No, you can't. iBooks does not read the fields to fill in a PDF file. You need a soft like Acrobat Reader from the App Store.

  • There are many versions I [changed an option] so that PDF files does not open in Firefox. v 42.0, now I have no pdf viewer by default/built-in at all.

I don't know how long it was, but I decided that I didn't want to use the pdf viewer by default in Firefox at the time, and because things have been very slow in the browser, I disabled the default viewer and set options to ensure that all PDF files that are open outside of the browser and directly in Adobe. I have no memory of what I've done to get there in time.

Now for c. 42.0 (and 41.0.2, front) when I go to Options > Applications and select one of the "Adobe Acrobat Document" s, my only options are always "ask," "Save the file", or «Use other...» "and there is certainly no option of Firefox Viewer in 'another use. »

With Adobe Reader latest terms and the fact that they can now push updates when they want, I just * never * use again.

Oh, hang on, I missed something. When you go into Options > Application, the content type that you want to change is Portable Document Format (PDF) , which is the standard type application/pdf. (The others being obscure guys like Marlon who are not your problem). Does it work?

    Hi Stephen39,

Do you have any 3rd party plugin installed for Adobe Reader? If not, close all instances of Adobe Reader running and delete the entire folder to: C:\program Adobe [version] \Reader\plug_ins.

Now go to control panel > programs and features. Locate the entry for Adobe Reader X and choose to repair the installation.

If you do not have a 3rd party plugin installed, try to uninstall them and see if the problem is related to the same. If it works, let me know what plugins have been the origin of the problem so that I can have a look.

If all goes well, this should fix things.

    Thank you

    I get a message 'Acrobat X 1 Pro Trial a expiré' I didn't know that I was using a trail?

What I pay a subscription for?

    Hi phillipk70320833,

I checked your account details for the same ID you use here on the forums.

You bought subscription Adobe PDF package that is why you are unable to open a PDF file.

You should perhaps install Adobe Reader (free software) or buy a subscription to open a PDF Acrobat DC file.

Let me know what you want so that I can offer others.

    Kind regards

  • PDF files would simply open and disappeared

Our internet provider is Bell and their security system is now with McAfee. This morning I received a message from McAfee that a new update Adobe Reader must be installed. I did, but now I couldn't read any PDF file. PDF files would simply open and disappeared. I tried different configurations, but still not able to open PDF files. Help, please.

    Three things to try...

    1. Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x 86) \Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, and then double-click Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
    2. You can open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try to disable the Protected Mode [Edit |] Preferences | (Improved) security].
    3. It might even be a malware problem; See http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html
  • Interactive PDF files do not open on some PCs, how to solve this?

    Hello

A big thank you to Steve Werner for answering my last question.

The new problem I have is that my client is unable to display the page turning from my interactive pdf file on his PC.

I am currently indd CS5 export a swf and then 'open file' Acrobat 9, by selecting the swf file.

I'm using Acrobat 9, is it possible that I can save a pdf interactive down to make it work on older versions of adobe?

Whatever it is, it must be able to work on PC as much as possible, if the problem lies in his version of Acrobat, or something else that I could miss?

It works on all PC, I tested in my office.

    Thank you very much!

    Sam

The effects of Flash can be viewed in Reader 9 or X, and Acrobat 9 X. Earlier versions of Acrobat or Reader will not help.

If you want to see the effects, then enter to get the latest version of the FREE Adobe Reader X.

  • Downloaded pdf files does not open in firefox

I have this irritating problem. I need to open pdf files that are already uploaded and stored on my hard drive, so it would be easier to translate their and ect. Either I'm doing wrong, but when I try to do, I always get a regular save/open quickly.

    I tried to paste the url of domain Firefox url (file:///C:/Users/Kaunaus/Desktop/Bakalaurinis/EPFL_TH5664.pdf);
And on the right, click on PDF-> open with-> Firefox.

Same command prompt. If I choose to open, it opens with Adobe Reader (not in the Firefox tab), check-in - saves a copy to a specific location.

    All solutions?

Hello freedomas, you can try the following?

go in firefox > help > troubleshooting information, click on file/show profile folder and close all firefox windows later. a windows Explorer window should open upwards - in there remove the file named mimetypes.rdf (which stores the actions to handle different types of files) - it will be regenerated the next time you launch the browser.

  • Firefox crashes when I close a PDF file that had opened a website to my request.

Windows 64-bit Vista OS. Everything works fine until I close a site open PDF file. Then, Firefox hangs and must be closed and the Firefox process must be completed with the Windows Task Manager. Then only Firefox reloads.

In case you don't know not, yours is not the current version. Try Firefox
in safe mode. Let us know how you do.

    ======================

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most of the modules.

(If you use it, switch to the default theme).

    • Under Windows, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key option key when starting Firefox.
    • Under Linux, you can open Firefox 4.0 + with leaving Firefox then go to your Terminal and running Safe Mode: firefox-safe-mode (you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)
    • Or open the Help menu and click on the restart with the disabled... modules menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, simply select "" boot mode safe. "

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. To do this, please follow article Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems .

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. It might help others who have the same problem.

    Thank you.

  • My pdf files want to open with microsoft word instead of adobe reader, how to cancel instructions to the word and apply adobe instead?

Somewhere along the line while trying to open a PDF, Microsoft Word has been selected. Now, whenever I try to open a pdf file it takes me to Microsoft Word where, of course, it will not open. How can I cancel the directive to Microsoft Word and apply Adobe Reader instead?

When I click on a link to a file as a PDF file, I see a momentary large green arrow top right of the screen and that's all that happens. I have to go to my download folder to search for the file. The file used to open, that is what I want it to do. I have Firefox 20.0.1.

  • PDF files won't open

After doing some cleaning on my Win32 XP Pro, all of my pdf files now will not open. I get a message with the following three money titles and a string of code after each:

    CRC32
    MD5
    SHA-1
    Can someone please?

CRC, MD5, SHA-1 are all related to the methods of control of the integrity of a file. It seems rather strange to get these values when you try to open the files.

I have two suggestions (although I have never seen or heard of your particular problem, so I'm not offended if you ignore them):

    1. Uninstall and reinstall the Foxit Reader.  I could do this go to the control panel > Add / Remove Programs (you can also go in the Foxit installation folder, for example,. Software\Foxit C:\Program Foxit Reader and uninstal.exe running) and then download, install and the trial of Revo Uninstaller Pro running.  Use the function "forced uninstall", but read the manual first.  After that you are reasonably confident that everything is as clean as possible, download and install the latest version of Foxit Reader.

2 ask for help in the forum of Foxit Reader (which seems to have been overwhelmed by a fan of the NFL) or (b) of support Foxit.
