  I got the call from the scam claiming that my Microsoft Windows system has a virus.  They told me that my Windows license number and they were right!  How did get my license number?

  first of all it is a very common scam.

  They probably told you the OEM SLP key which is public knowledge. Your windows is probably preinstalled, so would the OEM KEY of SLP. An OEM SLP key is common to all the models of computers from a manufacturer and varies only by the windows edition.

  Computers, which are built by large manufacturers provided with pre-installed Windows are supplied with 2 two product keys:

  (A) OEM SLP: this key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates. (that's why you had no need to turn on your computer after you brought it home)

  (B) SLP COA: it's the product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or at the bottom, [or in the battery compartment]) of your computer. It is a valid product key, but must be used only in certain situations (for example, if the OEM SLP key stops automatic activation for a reason any). The key must be activated by phone. (Note: all manufacturers that use the SLP OEM system are bound by contract to include a certificate of Authenticity sticker (COA), which has a COA SLP key, on the computer)

  UN less you have prepaid support contract with Microsoft, then Microsoft will never ever call you or send you all your PC problems. It's simply a scam you bring to give access to your PC to allow these people to steal your password and other personal information such as banking passwords etc.

  Fortunately, you don't fall for their scam!

  Reported people on these calls for a person who represents Windows (note: not Microsoft).

  It is a scam! Not to follow their instructions or advice and not to provide ANY information to them.

  Because they use the internet lines and/or phone to complete their fraud, there may be federal agencies in your country who are interested in discovering their calls. Their report directly to the appropriate agency if you feel you can contribute to their arrest and the charges.

  Microsoft do NOT pick up the phone and start dialing customers and never phones/e-mails asking for personal information or asking them to visit a web site! Please do not take into account these calls and hang up immediately.

  If you know who is in contact with you, then you can either call their phone service provider and ask them to try to block the number or contact your local police.

  Microsoft has nothing to do with those calls.

  You have made the right choice to reject the call. It's a SCAM well known and is FALSE. Microsoft and partners will NEVER user calls unless you ask them to call or to open a support case. On the other hand there is no way for Microsoft to know who has a problem with PC. Take a look at:

  Yes someone called himself that edward Watson said it was Windows and my computer has been download a virus, and I was asked to give him a credential from my computer, I played along some lil see what questions he would ask and what directions it would give me. He told me to push the button of windows on my keyboard and then enter a few letters in the Run dialog box and press ENTER, then he told me to get into the Sorority and press on enter and me asked him to read the information on my computer, I asked him how he got my number and he said that all computers are filed with windows when they are purchased, but it wasn't my number when I bought this computer. I asked him his name and his number and told him I want to remind him. I asked him where he was and he said in Florida. I hung up recalled and another guy said (sounded like same Indian guy), and I asked him who he was with him help PC, and that he was in Delaware. I really hope that my computer is not hacked. EVERYONE HAS HAD THIS HAPPEN?

  Yes, it's a scam. When someone calls and says they need to talk to you about 'mistakes' in your computer, simply hang up.  I just had one of these calls myself about 15 minutes ago.

  have you checked on the memory of our pc? Call of duty modern warfare needs at least 2 GB of memory, another thing you need to consider is your video card in your pc windows 7. try to update the first video card drivers. verification of your memory.

  I could not find if it has been requested. Machine to Vista with Microsoft Security Essentials installed a few weeks ago. MSE became Windows defender off on install. OK, I get that.
