Performance issue Windows 7 after installing a game Psychonauts

Original thread: I defragmented my hard drive, my computer won't start?

While I was trying to run the game "Psychonauts" steam, which had worked fine on this computer, back on the first installation of Windows 7 I had. In November my OS stopped working completely, and to this day I don't know why. I had Ubuntu since then, and I got Windows 7 back on here again in July, the same person who bought the computer from. Psychonauts worked until I got to the world of Waterloo (a level in the game). Research online told to defragment my hard drive, so I jumped into that knowing exactly what I was doing. Smart, I know. I don't know how long it was, but all of a sudden my computer is turned off and shut right down before arriving at the Toshiba screen. I left for a few hours and came back, turned on, and ran startup repair. He finished after about 20 minutes, said I had to check Microsoft for solutions or something, then it prompted me to shut it down. I did, tried to leave it to the top, it works. Sorry for the long intro. I just want to know if my computer will be correct? Is this what I can run (the irony) to check it out? I had so many problems with it already, I don't know how much more it can survive.

Hello

1 is that the problem is specific to the game Psychonauts?
2. you receive an error message/code?

    Hello

Often we see weird behavior as the result of a program of loading during the startup process.

To solve these, we use the clean boot troubleshooting.

The following article describes this process:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Please note that after refine us the cause, it is important that we return to a normal startup and manually delete the startup program.

We'll do this before uninstalling Service Pack 2.

If the behavior persists, then we can clean boot, uninstall and reinstall Service Pack 2.

If you overwrite your Windows 7 partition in the process and you have valid licenses for both systems, then you can try to change the Windows XP boot manager to restore the Windows 7 operating system:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/306559/en-us

The article is a bit old, but its principles will probably still allow you to dual boot Windows 7 and XP provided you delete the Windows 7 partition when you reinstalled XP.

While the dual-boot will probably work for you, I think it would be better for you to perform a Windows Anytime Upgrade to Windows 7 Pro or above and then use the XP compatibility mode:

  • Cannot re - install windows 7 after installing the new motherboard

I have a desktop HP, circa 2010, running Windows 7. It it a machine of HP brand with a product windows key that is related to specific hardware when I bought it. The motherboard died last week and the original is not available any more, so I had to install a motherboard ASUS. The PC starts fine until windows recognizes that this is a different material. The system restore fails also in the same Manor.

Finally, I will restore this original sate is that it works even fines, it is a quad core with 8 GB memory and always runs fast. I have a new SSD drive I want to swap in and upgrade to Windows 10 after I return to a good state.

I tried to install windows 7 from scratch for the new SSD, but I can't because the product key is a marked HP one and Microsoft does not accept it.

Is it possible for me to get Microsoft to give me a new key proeduct, after all that I feel that I own this copy of windows and I have the right to re - install windows

Any suggestions other than buying a new copy of windows is appreciated.

Thank your for the answers. It looks like another office of Linux for me. Interesting to note that when I did a clean install of Windows 7 original Activation of Windows code on the side of the case worked well.

If I bought a used computer, no matter who previously owned, the first thing I have with it would be to reinstall the operating system itself. You know not how the computer has been maintained, which has been incorrectly installed, what is missed, what virus and spyware, there may be, etc. I would not live with someone of another errors and problems, possibility of kiddy p0rn, etc, and I would not recommend anyone else to do.

Your choice of course, but in my opinion, you're playing with fire if you reinstall Windows properly.

Since I welcomed this program I have not been able to start my computer correctly, I have done analyses and a recovery disk to start problems.

  • Problems of fonts Windows Mail after installing IE9

I just installed IE9 (March 14, 2011) and started this complex problem. Have Vista Ultimate and use Windows Mail. My default font is Verdana "BOLD" by 10 points. With IE9, it seems much too fat (never appeared like that with IE8). Other fonts appear also too fat.

Another strange aspect of the same problem, at the bottom of the HTML emails, you have three buttons (source combined, called edit): Edit Source overview.  Since IE9, they appear in bold - possibly a slightly larger than before in IE8 font.

My emails stored in folders are in HTML format and on which they are considered, the fonts have changed since installing IE9 on many emails - but not all emails. The fonts must be Verdana 10 pt bold or some other fonts are now appearing in Times New Roman 10 points.

There is a second distinct problem with TNR in Windows Mail. I used TNR 12 pt for an email and after you send the email, it appears therefore as TNR 10 pt when a response is received. Regardless of the source of the answer. I never use TNR 10 pt because it seems too small for most people. Somehow 12pt changed to appear over and over again as 10 pt. And now, he continues this model since I use IE9.

A possible connection to explain to the police by changing the above problem. The default value for IE9 is TNR. [Tools > Internet Options > general tab > Fonts] Shouldn't some Web sites appear in TNR? They ALL appear in some other fonts, possibly Verdana. Affecting TNR font in the results of the accessibility in all fonts in all the websites appearing in TNR. I suspect when I changed the accessibility implementation, that in addition to changing Web sites, it also changed policies to e-mail in Windows Mail. I've since unchecked accessibility and "Fonts" are defined by default (TNR). The stored emails continue to show police TNR, that they do not return to Verdana.

Anyone with similar problems?  Anyone has any ideas how to fix these issues?

You can set the default font in Internet Explorer to the font you want in the mail via Tools client | Internet Options | Fonts.  Otherwise in IE9, you're stuck with what you have for Windows Mail.  The changes are again DLL located in IE9, and you cannot change these DLLs unless you go back to IE8.  Products of its Microsofts, so that they are accountable for your results.  Yes, delivers his "squarely" by Microsoft.
