Performance of VMWare resources

Can someone answer me these questions or to provide me with the resource (s) where I can find this information myself.

+ As you indicate, hard numbers comparisons are the kind of the gold standard that we are looking for pipes for +.
I would be particularly interested in making a comparison, something like this:

  • A. system - VM system with two virtual machines, each running a server is under load

  • B. system B-only one BONE, just above the metal, with these same two servers running on this subject under the same load nakedtake this base A against B test and compare along a bunch of parameters:

  • 1. heavy disk i/o load

  • 2. intensive care of memory

  • 3 CPU intensive care

  • 4. some combinations

  • 5. what he looked like in the 'start-up' compared to the stationary State

  • 6. What are the boundary conditions; scenarios in each of A and B, where you can cause particularly bad claim, etc..

  • 7. etc. Something like that seems to me that it would be particularly useful, because it would really help characterize the kind of servers that can be inserted on VM without worry. And he would bring clarity to the kind of performance degradation (or a user effect) you should expect in various scenarios. Armed with such data, it would be much easier to say "X process can be had VM without a second thought, while process there should only be VM had in these conditions... and Z process will benefit actually put itself on its own virtual machine... », etc.

Thank you

Kevin

To be honest, as this depends on many variables, but take a look at http://www.vmware.com/resources/techresources/cat/91, 96 for some docs or just google vmware performance, Dell, HP and other manufacturers/vendors have stats

Thank you

  • Poor performance in VMWare Workstation 10 comments VM, score on memory Windows experience index is low

Specification of the host is A10-5800 AMD CPU & 8 GB DDR3 - 1600 RAM(dual-channel), running VMware workstation 10 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1. WEI (Windows experience index) score on memory is 7.3.

Comments is running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit SP1. VMware tool has been installed. The WEI score on memory is only 4.5. I can feel the difference when you work in the guest, because of the bad performance RAM problem.

Some way to optimize the performance of comments?

Can I assume that the customer has more than 960 MB and less than 1.5 GB of memory?  The more possible memory under-score with less than 1.5 GB memory is 4.5.

  • Poor performance of VMware reviews

Hello everyone, I hope someone can help me because I'm out of ideas.

My guest in VMware operating system performance is very laggy and unresponsive. Opening programs takes a lot of time, and the cursor is laggy. IV ' e tried everything I can think: changed amount of RAM available from 1 to 3, changed the number of cores of 1 to 4, changed the virtual disk in disk of split or a monkey one and does not.

I also eliminated the pagefile on the total guest OS and still no change.

I am running Linux Mint 16 (guest) on VMware player 6.0.1 under win 8.1 (host).

The computer is a Samsung 9 series laptop computer with processor i7-3517u, 8 GB of ram and 256GB sandisk SSD U100.

The VMware image is currently configured to use the virtual monolithic disk of 20 GB, 2 GB of RAM, 2 CPU cores, NAT connection.

IV ' e tried to copy the image of the OS on a friends laptop that runs on a laptop from lenovo with processor i5-2310, samsung 256 840 SSD and 6 GB of RAM and it works perfectly.

One of the things I noticed was that opening the programs as part of the guest OS (even just the linux terminal) uses 100% CPU for a while according to Linux performance monitor but Windows (host), it shows very little use of the processor.

Anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Well, with a little help, I solved it. It turns out that my CPU was immobilized at 800 Mhz frequency. The Samsung 9 series, it is called silent mode when you slow down the fan and the CPU frequency is lowered so it is not overheating.

  • Performance and VMware tools

Is it possible for out-of-date vmware tools influence the performance of the operating system?  If so, how?  I'd be curious to get some opinions.  (Note: in this case, overcommittment memory is not in place)

I wonder what performance issues if everything would be affected by out-of-date VMware tools (assuming that hardware virtual machine is the latest version) - things like processing, memory, network performance - or if the tools being obsolete are somewhat irrelevant for those who emits

Jumbo Frame en vSphere are realmente soportado-to-end (ESX, virtual switch, VMkernel...) y realmente is noted una diferencian of between 12 and 18 percent in our test of the United Nations.

  • VMware Performance event triggers use case issues.

    1) can event Performance adapter CPO VMware triggers and their

Attributes of the SAMPLE SIZE, INTERVAL and CONDITIONS be configured

    for the following use cases?

    (2) event VMWare Performance triggers may be CORRELATED?  and if so it would take to satisfy the use case?

    (3) an additional performance monitoring tool needed to satisy the use case? :

If a VM CPU or RAM was 80% for 2 hours then trigger a workflow

    and

If a VM CPU or RAM was 60% for X days and then trigger a workflow

First, I will describe how you can instrument a correlation method, but in the end, I'm not sure it's really necessary for use cases described.

To correlate the performance VMware on a designated period events, you would create a process correlation that follows the underlying the performance event and decides to trigger the process wished triggered when correlated event is detected or not.

    Here's how it works.

First, create a global table with three columns:

    (1) virtual path Machine

    (2) County of consecutive trigger

    (3) latest trip time

Create a process that is triggered by a performance event VMware (for example memory Avg > 80%) where you can set the size of the sample and an interval that is logical view of the period of interest (2 hours or X days). For example, a sample of 10 and 30 seconds (5 minutes) are a slice of reasonable time to vCenter for 2 hours. As a result, requiring 24 consecutive triggers to trigger the real event of interest. (divided by 5 minutes to 2 hours)

In other words, the formula is:

Sample size * interval / calendar = consecutive trigger Count

The correlation process triggered by the gross VMware event does the following:

    (1) if there is no existing entry in the overall table for the virtual machine, add the entry to table with count = 1 and current time

    (2) if the entry exists, check the current time against the last trigger time

    (a) if it is the next interval, for example, the time now is 12:15 and triggered last time was 12:10 (see note below).

Incrementing counter and trip together last time

If count = 24, then run the process that manages the "VM memory Avg > 80% for at least 2 hours' and remove the entry from the table.

    If count< 24,="" the="" process="" exits="" having="" only="" incremented="" the="" counter="" and="" set="" the="" last="" trigger="">

    (b) if the current time is > that last trigger time slice schedule (+ a little padding), set the counter to 1

    Note: When comparing the time of w/last time running, you should cover to consider delay light treatment in order to compare now< last-time+(time="" slice*2).="" anything="" less="" than="" 10="" minutes="" in="" this="" case="" would="" be="" considered="" a="" consecutive="" trigger.="" you="" could="" also="" compare="" current-time="">< last-time+time-slice+1,="" which="" is="" probably="" also="">

Now, after going through all that, you don't have to the process of correlation after all. Simply adjust your sample size to be large enough to accommodate your deadline and you launch your handler directly without having to correlate. So for the 2 hour window, simply create a sample size 240 (* 30 seconds = 2 hours). This may or may not work depending on how performance indicators have been set up on the server (sample size, intervals and how much is saved). You can define your own samples and multiples of these configured values intervals (so be careful and see VMware documentation when he resorts to such measures)

You can see that I have described everything first correlation method is more reliable, especially for longer periods such as X days (where you need to taste every hour instead of every 5 minutes).

In any case, I think you can do what's needed without external control, but will require experimentation and a deeper knowledge of the works of performance for ESX metric sampling.

The VMware FAQ details the requirements for VMWare.

    http://www.VMware.com/products/player/FAQs.html

The processor and RAM already exceed requirements, so it shouldn't have a negative effect on performance. VMWare Player will not affect on real hardware. This depends on the version of Linux used because it must be enough RAM for the host (Windows 7 64-bit) operating system and the guest OS (Linux). 4 GB of RAM should be plenty for the operating systems run, but you can find some RAM intensive programs may have reduced performance. For most programs, this shouldn't be a problem.

Other virtualization technologies require virtualization is enabled in the BIOS. However, the FAQ does not mention this. If this does not work and you receive an error on activation, then enable it in the BIOS.

  • Maximum frequency in resource monitor

In Task Manager, Performance tab, button resource monitor, which is the "percentage of the maximum frequency" and is related to the Turbo Boost?

I have a 3.4 GHz quad-core i7 with Windows 7 64 bit.  The percentage of the maximum frequency is usually 103%, but sometimes it's 102 or 101.  I downloaded an Intel program that displays the status of the Turbo Boost.  I had all four cores running, so the Turbo Boost was 3.5.  The Max Freq 103%, and being about 103 percent of the 3.4 3.5, I think that showed the Turbo Boost.  But I ended up some processes, the Turbo Boost has increased, but this percentage is not gone - in fact, he came down.  So, what's the percentage of frequency and is related to the Turbo Boost?

    Hello

You can not push beyond a certain point and some variance is scheduled. Check with
Intel, documentation and community support. It's really a hardware problem and
not directly related to Windows so that you ask the right questions however in the wrong
places. A person fully familiar with your processor and your hardware can give you

  • VMWare Fusion pro 7.1.1 - blocking running yosemite as a guest problem

    Hi all

I have a Yosemite pro running (mid-2014, 16 GB of ram video card w / discrete) MacBook. When I run a guest of yosemite, the video is very lag, and the virtual machine is generally not very handy.

The guest has 4 cores, 4 GB ram, 256 MB of video memory (using the discrete card for 3D applications only) and implements the latest vmware tools 'material' and vmware. I disabled the sound and bluetooth.

Is that what I can do to improve performance?

    Thank you!

Yes.  Please check this blog for the manual workaround and a program called "BeamOff" that will provide relief without manual effort.  https://derflounder.WordPress.com/2014/12/13/improving-Yosemite-VM-performance-in-VMware-Fusion/

  • Delete the custom resource

    Hi all

I need to expose a DyanmicDataType created in VCO as a custom in the DSA data source and manage this custom data source. Let me know if I am doing this correct.

1, resource to create custom in VCAC:

    * Define a new data type by calling 'Define the Type' in the folder DynamicTypes in vco.  The data type is < namespace >. < Objetpersonnalise >

    * Create new resource custom in the DSA based out of DynamicTypes:namespace:Objetpersonnalise

To create a workflow VCO that returns an object of type Objetpersonnalise.  The workflow returns an object by calling DynamicTypesManager.makeObject

    2 delete the custom resource

How to remove this custom resource that appears in the tab 'Elements '. I can create a new action of resource and associate it with a workflow VCO. How to remove this resource instance custom vaca in the workflow.

    Any help appreciated.

Delete is performed via a resource of available Action you create.  A simple workflow that takes your resource type as input would.  (if your Item workflow is simple, you can actually use the same workflow to throw... really just an entrance and an exit of the type to get in and out of inventory in the items tab)

This removes the element Custom inventory of resources (items tab)... If you really want to destroy the resource itself (from source), you might as the workflow to have also a task of the script to actually remove/destroy article in stock dynamic types.  (for example deleting a row in a database table)

  • How to change the owner of a custom resource

We create vCAC business groups as a resource that is centralized in our business accommodation for visitors office. Part of the procurement process is to create a custom resource vCAC for the vCACCAFE:BusinessGroup. Once the Group of companies has been implemented we would like to restore this object off customer accommodation property to allow them to update the group membership. How can I change the owner of the resource custom so that the client business group owns instead COMPUTER group central, or more precisely, I just feel like the Group of corporate clients to be able to perform actions of resources against the object group of business.

It's the kind where I was going before I guess only you don't need this...

    >>... The resource action type has the value "elimination".

My tests have shown that you can simply re-run the provision as another user and the EXISTING inventory item is replaced by the owner who ran.

So you can have a market with a resource that says 'Take ownership' and for that Action, a provision by using the existing business group.  Changes in ownership. I tested that.

Now that I have my right to consumer Resource Actions sorted (the service account of the plugin must qualify for all business groups - or at least where you want the actions to perform VCO), I'm sure I can put up an example that allows you to perform the Action of resource on behalf of someone else... This would allow you to SET the owner based on a new provision in the market.

    So, for example...

    1. I have create group of companies using advanced Service plan, which ALSO runs a provision of the custom resource.

    2. I add you to the Group of the company.

    3. I ran the action of change owner resource and type in your name.

    4. He performs a reconfiguration on your behalf... make you the owner.

If this makes sense and could help you, I can set up a complete example in my lab tomorrow that shows this feature.  I know I can do.  But I also want to change the owner of a Machine element, and who died for us because he's not in the API.  I want to continue to push for an API method to change the owner as well.  As I said in my support ticket... If you own something, you should be able to change owner.
