Permission to delete files

In Windows Vista, I often receive notice of permission when you try to delete a folder.  The only way I can delete a folder is first of all remove the files in.  It's really annoying and tedious.  Is there a way to fix this?

It's a very likely a permissions problem.  You can change the permissions of the folder (or appropriate file) as necessary to allow you to remove it without first deleting the files.  Unfortunately, this can sometimes take longer to accomplish than just delete the files and then the file - but if you do it at a high level, then it will apply to all subfolders (if you set it up for that) and can saye you time the next time you need to delete a record.

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

Another alternative is to try the Unlocker for free at: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml.  This program works often when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.  Once installed, you can use it whenever it's necessary.  It should delete the folder without having to remove the files that it content.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • "File permission error" during deleting files on Windows 7

    Hello

I'm running Labview 2011 and have an application that has been developed to run on Windows XP. The part of the application deletes a file from the System32 folder, and then replaces it with another version of the same file (based on a specific condition). It worked perfectly on Windows XP. Now that I've migrated to Windows 7, I changed the path to access the SysWOW64 folder, where now stands the same file. Now when I run the program, during the phase of elimination, I get the following error:

    Possible reasons:

LabVIEW: File permission error. You do not have the correct permissions for the file.

When I try to manually delete the file in the SysWOW64 folder, I get a popup to confirm the progress of the removal. The file is then deleted.

Is there anyway that I can get permission to delete the file is automatically? I also tried to use the "Set permission" VI with the permission set to 511 (octal 777) but that VI also threw up the same file permission error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Arun

Try to run your application with the option "Run As Administrator".  Windows 7 is very restrictive on who can do what.  It's generally a bad idea that requires deleting file to a system folder.  I think you should consider using a temporary directory to avoid this problem.

  • Deleting files off Vista this state you do not have permission

I am trying to install the Windows 7 upgrade, but a program was discovered during installation, noting it is not compatible with Windows 7 and I had to stop the installation to remove the file.  When I go into Control Panel to remove the program it states I have not permission to delete.  I tried to delete the file from the Windows desktop, and again it says I don't have permission.  I deleted some other programs do not have "gave me this problem.  The show is Softex Omnipass which is a program that came with a fingerprint reader.  I was installed on my pc, but not used it.  Any help to get this thing jump off my pc will be appreciated.

First of all, you can try to uninstall it (you should not try to remove it except as a last resort because this leaves pieces in the Windows directory and the registry) using Revo at: http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/revo-uninstaller/revouninstaller.html.  Often, this uninstalls programs when the normal Vista uninstall program does not work.

It could also be a matter of permissions:

If this does not work, you can delete the program files.  Try using one of the following free products to remove the files.  Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php of files (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/) or Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml.  These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

  • Cannot delete files windows Messaging.

I have a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. In the program files (x 86) files and the file of the folder for windows mail program. It seems that these records are just a waste of hard drive space after searching the net, Windows mail is not supposed to be bundled with windows 7. Windows mail is not in the start menu. It is not in the menu programs and features so I can't uninstall it. I can't launch the programs manually because they have an extension .mui on the edge of the name of the file, so it's a total waste of hard drive space. Problem is that I can't do anything with the files. When I try to remove the .mui winmail.exe.mui I get an error message "You need permission from trustedinstaller to make changes to this file" when I try to delete the folders I get the same error message. What the * is trusted Installer? Can someone tell me please how to get permission from trustedinstaller to remove these folders? They are of no use to me. Of course a bit of * left the system by acer.

For anyone still interested to remove these files, there are several steps missing.

On my installation, I need both to take ownership and change permissions for each file and folder before I could remove them.

    1. in Windows Explorer, select Tools-> Folder Options-> view tab-> uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)".
    2. right click on each file or folder and select Properties-> Security tab
    3. click on advanced-> owner tab
    4. click on edit-> UAC prompt approval
    5. Select your user profile and click OK to take ownership
    6. This will return you to the Security tab-> select Edit to modify permissions
    7. Select your user name and fill in the box to allow full control
    8 OK-> OK

Now that you have taken possession and you have full control, you will be allowed to delete files.

I'm surprised that it take so much effort to give me permission to delete a single record, but at least it would be embarrassing for a hacker, too.

  • "You need give the administrator permission to delete this folder?"

Windows 7. My PC user account shows I am administrator, but it is impossible to delete some files.  Get the message: "' you need give the administrator permission to delete this folder.

Yes, it is in the free version.  It is in the 'Tools' tab to the right part of the screen.  For best results, you should also get "rkill" (you should never download from bleepingcomputer.com - and ABSOLUTELY no PART ELSEWHERE), which is good to put an end to all background processes that prevent you to delete unwanted files and folders.

  • Cannot delete files in photoshop Organizer 10

    Hello

I usually upload my pictures (raw nef) and then just get in the Organizer to choose.

After I remove it from my computer because I have everything stored on external hard drives.

for the moment, I uploaded a few photos (they are also on my desk in a separate folder)

but it's very slow and he transferred half of them but if I try to download the other Dungeon half it saying: I have already downloaded?

in any case, I thought that I could clean everything that there is a lot of photos there that are old and on my external hard drives

But if I try and remove them (picture by picture) I get an error saying "error removing media '.

If I try to delete an album is simply the error gives ' "album of deletion has failed".

I don't know what to do now there at - it another option or I need to reinstall?

    Thank you

    Several different issues.

I'll start with the last of them:

    asgaha wrote:

If I try to delete an album is simply the error gives ' "album of deletion has failed".

It's mysterious. Deleting an album is very rarely a problem. You can try to select all files in the album and conduct a ' file > reconnect > missing files?

Another way to tell if you have any problem files in this album would be to export all the files in a temporary folder to see if any files are recognized.

for the moment, I uploaded a few photos (they are also on my desk in a separate folder)

but it's very slow and he transferred half of them but if I try to download the other Dungeon half it saying: I have already downloaded?

The message on the files already in the catalog must avoid having duplicates. For the Organizer, the duplicate files are already in the same catalog with the same date_taken and size in kilobytes. Even if the files have different names or places, the Downloader will refuse to import these duplicates.

in any case, I thought that I could clean everything that there is a lot of photos there that are old and on my external hard drives

But if I try and remove them (picture by picture) I get an error saying "error removing media '.

Is there a problem of permission with these files? Can you open and send them to the editor of the Organizer?

No, without your consent the computer will not delete arbitrarily files other than system files, that you do not normally have access.

  • Hack and download deleted files.

Firstly - I don't know anything about apple products, but a few years back we were at a party where my son was charged to hack an iPad to friends and download of deleted files. My son is said to have picked up his iPad and clicked the button image on his screen locked and watched a slide show.

But they were pretty adamant that he hacked in and downloaded its deleted pictures because she removed the image that he could see. He also repeated that they could see pictures deleted! They have nothing serious, she took a few pictures of pimples on the face and apparently they made fun of her and she got very angry, being 10 or 11 years and they ended up leaving the group.

Things kind of has taken a turn for the worse when the friend's brother went behind my son to school has grabbed by the shoulders spun around him and he was slammed into a locker and yelled to leave his sister alone. Well, my wife was quite upset and things came and went for a bit and we pretty much no more.

So in the end - they looked like, Yes, I disagree with my son doing... but look at what your son. The mother says well enough, was his exact quote "[my son] betrayed [his] confidence to hack his iPad and download its deleted photos!

Can someone please explain what they're talking about and how was my son able to watch a slideshow on a locked iPad? Can someone also explain how can they see Deleted Photos?

    Sorry for this long post...

From the sounds of things, your son has no more to start the slideshow on the device function. Maybe the photos they thought had been deleted was not. I vaguely remember the feature which for my part would have stopped. See http://ipadacademy.com/ipad-tip-using-your-ipad-as-a-digital-photo-frame-even-wh en-locked /. From what I understand, it has been deleted in the iOS 7.
