Photos shared from my Mac.

I have a MacBook on which I store all my photos (from my camera and iPhone) using 'Photos' from Apple. Me and my parents began using the family share, which has worked very well so far. I discovered that the photos of my Mac (that I never sent by email or whatsapp or whatever it is) appear on a different iPhone family members. We did not activate iCloud Stream or anything which would suggest that the photos of my Mac eventually someone else phone. Also, I checked all my settings and could not find what was going on.

Does anyone have an idea?

Thank you.

They have probably subscribed to your family shares on their phone or they use MyPhotoStream or iCloud photo library on their Mac and phone

    1. when the image appears on my Mac through my photo stream, I believe that the photo is of lower resolution then the version on my phone. Fix?

No, not on a Mac. My photo stream transfers the pictures on your Mac at full resolution.  See: my photo FAQ - Apple Support stream

What resolution are pictures of my photo stream?

On a Mac or a PC, your photos are downloaded and stored at full resolution. On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV, your photos are delivered in a resolution of optimized device that speeds up downloads and saves storage space.

Dimensions will vary, but an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard camera will have a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels when it is pushed to your devices. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

It is only with shared Albums, photos can e transferred to a Mac with a lower resolution.

    What iCloudService do you use?

    • If the iPhone and the Mac are synchronized with iCloud photo library, removal of the photos from the iPhone will remove them from the Mac as well.  iCloud photo library is a synchronization service that will ensure that you see the same pictures on all devices. All change at will the timing and any deletion or any import.  To win the storage on the iPhone allow the iCloud Photos setting "Optimize Storage.
    • If photos have been synced with my photos and not iCloud library stream, you can remove them from the iPhone. They must stay in the library on your Mac. But before a massive deletion on any device, make a backup of your photo library, just to be sure.
  • ICloud deleting deletes photo library photos from iCloud, photo sharing

I have iCloud photo library on my Mac and on my iPhone.  I created an album of photos and videos to spend several weeks going apartment hunting in my neighborhood.  I have friends who are also looking for apartments in my neighborhood and these photos and videos would be useful for them.  So I want to share all these content with them using iCloud, photo sharing.  However, I have this great set of photos/videos over on my Mac or my iPhone, because I have an apartment and my use for these photos.

    So I want to:

    1. create a shared album (let's call it 'Videos apartment').

    2. Add all my photos and videos of my apartment hunting that is currently in my library to iCloud.

3 share only iCloud library with my friends (they can add, comment, do what they want)

4 delete the original files from my library to iCloud I don't don't need or want these photos over on my personal devices.

My question is: if I delete the photo in step 4, which will also remove the same pictures of the iCloud Shared Library?

It would be useful to know if the iCloud share photos are copies separated from my photos of the library, or are the same.

Sharing albums and Photo library iCloud iCloud different services and are stored independently from each other.

When you create a shared album and share with your friends, you will see the shared album and photos in your photo library, but you can remove the originals from your photo library, as long as you do not remove the shared album photos. In the shared album photos can be slightly smaller than your original photos, because there is a limit of size of pixels for shared photos.

  • Can I remove the library from my Mac after the photos are uploaded to iCloud to free up storage space?

My Mac Book Pro storage is almost full, and I would like to transfer my photos to iCloud and remove them from my Mac. How can I do this? And how to display in iCloud?

With iCloud library enabled, you cannot delete a photo on a device (or iCloud.com) without deleting each device which uses iCloud photo library (iCloud.com). In order to save space on your mobile devices (and indeed your Mac if you want to) turn on the optimization of the pictures on these devices (settings > photos & camera > optimize storage on your mobile device and Photo preferences > optimize storage on your Mac)

Dynamic optimization, it reduces the resolution of your photos, if necessary, so that you don't notice it occurring initially. However, when necessary, it is very effective, and users have reported libraries being optimized for much less than 10% of their original size in some cases. My own library is about 9% of its original on my phone size.

I have 10 GB of photos in a photo library on my Mac Air, which is running out of storage space. I would like to move the photos to another library of Photos in an external drive which already hosts most of my photo archives. How can I execute the move?

    Thank you!

    Marco.

Copy the library from the internal drive to the external drive. You can then open the library on the external hard drive by double clicking it and check, if the copy does not work.

Photos has no tools to merge libraries. You can use both libraries alternating, or export the photos of a library and import them into the other library.

Or use the application PowerPhotos to merge the two libraries move photos from one library to another.

You will need the full version and paid f PowerPhotos to do.
