Physical requirements for the collection of network adapters

During the aggregation of physical NIC cards on a host ESX (i) the physical switches that NICs are connected to have all of its ports are associated as well?

Thank you

Real grouping only with the IP hash and require a specific configuration also on physical switches.

To keep things simple, I suggest using the default grouping policy (it's just a load balancing solution) which works very well with all kinds of switches.

    Hello

    I'm using ESXi 3.5 U5 installed on a Dell PowerEdge R710.

I want team two network adapters to the default value 0 of the Virtual Switch.

It depends on what you want to achieve. Fault tolerance, the aggregation?

Take a look at this document from VMware.

If you use your search engine of the day and throw it into the words "VMware ESX" and add circuits or consolidation, there will be some hits on various blogs showing solutions to different hardware (in collaboration with Cisco, HP switches).

  • Question about the collection of NETWORK adapters for vMotion / VM vSwitch

    Hello

We use vSphere Enterprise Edition 5.1.

We also create separate vSwitch for management / vMotion and VM.

Each vSwitch receives 2 network cards connected to the different switch for redundancy.

We would like to know is necessary to provide the collection of NETWORK adapters for these vSwitches?  Currently, only enable us NIC Teaming for VM vSwitch only.

    Thank you

VSwitch vMotion, we have 2 assigned NIC (nic2 and nic6) with 10 VLANS.  NIC2 and nic6 are connected to 2 different physical switches.

    Should I choose

    (1) both are active

    (2) both are assets + grouping of NETWORK cards?

Question - if there is only 1 VLAN, it seems that NIC Teaming is also not very useful unless we use 2 VLAN (Multi-NIC vMotion).  Is this right?

If you use Multi-NIC vMotion, there is no need to have two different VLANS, all you need is depending on configuration

on your vMotion switch, please create two vmkernel port for vMotion with the same VLAN ID, but the grouping of NETWORK cards as below

    vMotion_1 - VLAN ID: 10

    Grouping of NETWORK cards

    vmnic2 - active

    vmnic6 - watch

    vMotion_2 - VLAN ID: 10

    vmnic6 - active

    vmnic2 - watch

  • Best practices for the collection of network adapter for network management

    Quote from http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/VMW-Server-WP-BestPractices.pdf :

    Aggregation and network management networks:

To set up a team of network for the management network adapter, configure the network adapters in the vSwitch
configuration of the ESX/ESXi host, for configuration active / standby.

The vSwitch must be configured as follows:
The load balancing • route = based on the original (default) virtual port code
    • Restore = 'No '.
    • vSwitch0: two physical network adapters (for example: vmnic0 & vmnic2)
    • Two groups of ports (for example, vMotion and management)

In this example, the management network works on vSwitch0 as active vmnic0 and watches over vmnic2.
The vMotion network works on vSwitch0 as active vmnic2 and watches over vmnic0.

    My configuration:

The two active adapters (not active / standby)

    Failback = 'Yes '.

Not clear if the network management and vMotion are both active on the same vmnic or different.

    Question:

Is smart enough to keep the network management and vMotion on different vmnic SE to ESXi 4.1 or I should change to active / standby config and make sure they are on different vmnic?

It would make a noticeable difference?

Ah yes, you are right in your configuration then.  I would never mix NIC vendors in any type of trunk, I saw things get funky now and then.  VAAI won't give you an advantage when you do a storage vMotion, normal vMotion will always use the same amount of traffic, because memory cards must always be copied between hosts.  It is advisable to devote at least a card NETWORK management and at least one NETWORK adapter to vMotion, if you can have two vSwitches with two NIC each then I would use explicit order of failover you mentioned.  Hope that helps!

  • Question about the collection of NETWORK adapters / collage

When installing ESXi, I want to use all 4 GigE ports on my server and I put a static IP address for each NIC.  Once the server is in place, I bind two NICs.  What I want to know is, it is best to remove the IP address for the second NETWORK card in our DNS?  For example, after you install ESXI, our DNS has the following:

    esxi1.mycompany.local 10.10.0.111

    esxi1.mycompany.local 10.10.0.112

Should I delete the 10.10.0.112 entry if the servile pair use 10.10.0.111?  I think that I should so that there is no misdirection, but I'm not sure.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

So phyical NIC have IP addresses assigned to ESXi.  You say ESXi which physical network cards must be plugged into the virtual switch and you assign an IP to the network management agent who is also trendy that same virtual switch, but never you assign IP addresses to physical network interface cards.  The sole purpose of a phyical in an ESXi installation nic is so they can connect to the virtual switches that you create within your ESXi installation.  Then it's the other virtual machines and VMKernel ports that have their own IP address.  Take this picture below, that I found on the internet for example.  These (vmnic0 and vmnic1) physical network interface cards have not all ip addresses, there is no record of A DNS pointing to those, etc..  They are there to connect physical switches on your virtual switches (they are network devices; it is the clearest way to think about).  The gray bar below is a virtual switch and the green dots on the virtual switch are ports where something is plugged.  These virtual machines (Linux, Windows, whatever), that's what has ipaddresses.  The special devices plugged into the virtual switch are called Service Console and VMKernel Ports (in ESXi 4.x, they are all just called VMKernel Ports).  These have IP addresses and these are the closest things to what you describe in your message.

If you get the chart however, you will notice that the virtual switch "obligations" say these two NICs phy, together based on how it to bind to them.  Unless you want to do a lot of research, or you have an exceptional case complex parameters for pasting of these two NICs (in the tab "NIC Teaming") should probably be "Route based on the original virtual port code" and "link status only.  Lighthouse of probing should be used in cases when the status link only mode does not work (usually he does it very well).  Moreover I also put the two cards as 'Active' network and say yes to "Warn switch" and "rescue".

  • How is the collection of NETWORK adapters?

I know it's possible to have 2 NICs for the network of the VM, but is it as simple as the addition of 2 NICs for the VM network? Because I notice that once I reboot my ESX 4.0 host, cluster VM network will not work. Do I need to do any configuration on the switch (s) these 2 network cards connected to as well?

Also, is it possible to configure or select the team to have 1 active and standby 1 or load balancing?

PortFast is configured on the physical switch indeed. For some reason any I doubt this is the problem that you are experiencing.

    Can you detail your config:

vSwitch - attached NICS - circuits - load balancing

In my current setup of vSwitch 0 I have 1 uplink for my port VM group and I would like to add another, aka grouping of NETWORK cards. Once I have do my physical connection of my host to my pSwitch & adapt my vSwitch settings to use the second uplink, does this take effect immediately or the host must it be robooted to make it work?

    ESXi 4.1

    Hello.

    It will take effect immediately.

    Good luck!

What are the network requirements for the remote server of the Panel?

I tried for awhile now to set up a Control Board.  I can connect to my remote panel of computers from other computers on my local network but nowhere else.

Whenever I use web publishing tool gives me a URL in this format: Http://Computer-Name.Corporate-Name.local:8086 / VI - nom.html apparently it means I have a local DNS server and this URL is meaningless to the public.

When I try to connect with the Operate > Connect to... remote control, I get this error message:

    "Connection to Server remote panel...".
"Connection refused by the server remote control specified: make sure that the LabVIEW Web server is enabled on the specified server.

I got the same error when I tried to host a remote panel from my laptop at home, on my Wi - Fi.  Is there some network settings or firewall I'm not seting?  Would it be my server or the router or the private network?

My goal is to be able to host remote panels of my laptop while I'm on the international scene, creating using 4 G internet mobile.  Is it still feasible?

As he Turners on my router had to be put in place so that my Port is in the rage of transfer.  Also I had to disable DHCP.  Without that you cannot host behind a router.

  • Error: "no physical memory is available to the location required for the windows boot manager." The system cannot continue. "

I have a stable system that works with a processor E6300, card mother evga 680i, graphics card 8800gts and 8gbs of RAM running on ulitmate windows 7 (32 bits - I decided to re - install with 64-bit to use the extra 4 GB of RAM, after I deal with the question below).

I recently tried to add an adapter of Intel RS2WC080 SAS/SATA controller in a PCI express slots on the card mother 680i. I know that the card works (such as "it works very well in another motherboard), but for some reason when I put it in the 680i mobo I get the following message appears when I try to start windows. (i.e. the raid controller has no windows on the disks. I always use original hard drive always connected on the same Sata port on the motherboard)

"No physical memory is available to the location required for the windows boot manager." The system cannot continue. "

I tried to turn off virtually everything I could in the bios of the motherboard as an experience (including the things I needed). I also disabled the Intel RS2WC080 card bios.

I'm puzzled. So what I want to know is simply a hardware compatibility problem, or is there some kind of workaround I can run in windows 7. For example, is there maybe some sort of way for her to start using a different memory location than its currently using? (Or is it something error message related to the memory of the bios that can only be overcome with software?)

    Thanks for any help.

I tried to disable everything in the bios... including the things I needed. No luck

Thank you very much for the reply Chris but I don't have abandoned bascially. Right now I guess the card and the 680i have some kind of incompatibility and I will just get a different mobo.

  • Digital signature is required for the AVG filter driver, I had to disable AVG filter driver to connect to the internet.

    Hello

Apparently, after the updates (don't know where exactly), a digital signature is required for the AVG filter driver. I had to uncheck AVG filter driver in network card to connect to the internet settings. Now the AVG firewall has stopped and the Windows Firewall is enabled.

Does this mean that AVG is not compatible with the new updates?

    Hey Deiry,.

Why don't disable you driver signing in Windows 7 and you would be able to use the AVG firewall. Take a look at the section of the Web site.
