Picking switch

I'm looking for the best switch to perform the tasks below.

It is a single office location.  They have an ASA5505 and I am an autonomous access point 1040.  I need a switch that will allow me to create a VLAN for public wireless access and private wireless access.   So far I came with WS-C3560X-24 t-S on the cisco web site.  I'm guessing there is a switch that is cheaper than what will accomplish what I need.  Can help you.

    Few question numpty maybe, but what follows... We just moved to a new (larger) home with thick walls and I want to set up a new wireless network.

    The current installation is:

    Fiber cable entering the House in the basement and connected the modem to the service provider that provides 150 mb internet. I changed the capacity wireless on the ISP's modem and connecting an airport extreme (2014 model) via the LAN to the modem. The extreme is in the office but on the 3rd floor is having connection problems than you can imagine. All rooms have access points CAT5e who all meet in the basement. I have two spare Aiport express and two Apple TV that I would use. Also I bought a TP-LINK 1000mbps (16 channels) Network Switch.

    Could someone please tell how the best set-up of my home network. For example, the Airport Express to the 3rd floor connected to the switch (wired) network or to an extreme in the Office? Apple TV also connected to the network switch?

    I would like to end up with a solid wireless network that passes without problem from extreme to Express necessary each time you walk and you want to use an Apple TV for television on the ground floor and one in our room.

    The simplest up set... which is almost always the best game in place... would be to connect the switch 16 ports to the modem/router and then connect devices to the switch. In other words, if your modem/router has 16 + Ethernet ports, the simplest network configuration would be to plug as many devices as possible directly to the modem/router.

    Other variants are possible, for example, the network might look like this:

    Internet > Modem/Router > AirPort Extreme > switch > devices... or, you can connect certain devices to ports Ethernet on the AirPort Extreme and some to the ports on the switch.  One thing to keep in mind however... If there is a problem... Troubleshooting may not be easy since it will be difficult to know where the problem actually lies.  Much easier to all have, or of possible devices, connect to the switch.

    Unfortunately, the AirPort Express devices will be of real bottlenecks on your network.  These devices are notoriously slow as well as wireless, and even if they work well, the speed will be does not exceed 100 Mbps... since it's the speed of the port to the AirPort Express.  In fact, I expect each Express to provide a wireless signal in the range of 50-60 Mbps.

    Don t forget WIFI must be enabled with the hardware switch on the computer laptop and FN + F8.

    I read a lot of posts online and think that I have figured this out, but I just want to know that. It seems that I am not not alone trying to do... I have a BEFSR41v2 and have since upgraded to a wireless router. Now, I need a hub and have read that I can disable DHCP in the BEFSR41 and use it as a hub. If I understand correctly what I read, I hang the cable from my current wireless router in the port of uplink on the BEFSR41 and then have correct 4 ports available for expansion without using the WAN port - making that noise? Also - is that what I should have the router (now configured as a hub) defined to obtain the IP address automatically, set a static IP address or what? Finally - the firmware is the original firmware 1.42.7 (April 2, 2002) and I've read where people have problems after the firmware update. Should I update the firmware? Thanks in advance for any help.

    In response to your questions:

    (1) the difference between a hub and a switch, it's when a hub receives a data stream, it broadcasts this stream to all the computers to which it is connected and the correct (receiving) computer realizes that the data are designed for it, so he picks up this flow, while other computers realize that the data stream is not for them While they ignore the flow.  A hub is limited to "a connection" at the same time.  A 10/100 hub would be a maximum bandwidth of 100 Mbps.

    A switch can make multiple connections at the same time, with all the ports running in both directions.  If a switch 8 ports can be up to 4 simultaneous connections to 100 Mbps in each direction, for a total bandwidth of 800 Mbps.  The key is that a switch can handle more traffic at the same time without having your data "bump heads", happening in your network.

    Because a switch costs only a few dollars more than a hub, I usually just buy switches.

    (2) when you use the Uplink port, you cannot also use port 1, because these two ports are directly connected.  The only difference between the Uplink port and port 1 is that two of the sons are reverse connected.   Port 1, 2, 3 and 4 normally communicate with each other through the firmware of the router (or switch), no direct wiring.  So normally the firmware controls the "switch" that is occurring.
