Planning of the names of the dns infrastructure and host esx (FQHN)

Greetings,

We plan our virtual environment for ESX 3.5 on IBM xSeries hardware. The environment will be made up (initially for short term) of two ESX host machines and a server that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for virtual center and VCB to backup proxy functions. My questions and concerns, consider installing the management network and the host names of the servers themselves.

I want to ensure the safety of the ESX servers and management functions by choosing a servo for all ESX hosts IP subnet and the virtual Center. Anyone done this? The back of the draw are more limited communication with the "machines" or more complicated infrastructure network that you need to add an interface on a router or an internal firewall for proper computers can access the host ESX and virtual Center. - What someone else? Are there better ways?

I also have questions about a naming convention good/responsible for all vmware hosts. We have example.com as a public domain. Someone also created a domain in active directory (who did not understand what they were doing) in the same domain, so my structure active directory looks like "host.example.example.com" - silly, I know. I guess that it is more appropriate to not place ESX or other host vmware in the same logical domain/dns as members active directory. While the leaves creating a separate field or using the public domain from example.com (esx.example.com). I thought for security and separation, it may be more appropriate to use "esx.example.local". This command removes any way for virtual infrastructure mingle in the public domain. All comments, thoughts, carries on this?

I also intended to appoint guests something like the following: ESX1.something.tld, ESX2.something.tld, etc. and virtual center something like VC.something.tld. Since virtual center needs to be a member of active directory to allow the mapping to user accounts, those who cause any issies with the ESX host with different domain names complete? Are there other ways to connect to active directory without being a domain member machine? Is anyone doing or having problems with it from a security point?

We actuallu use 2 subnets now, private, internal, and a DMZ for guests in public (although it's hard to keep everything under this distinction more). You're right, I want to talk about the normal subnet that all servers and users are connected to.  This works in my environment, but may not work in environments more serious questions of internal security.

I actually run VCenter as a virtual machine in a HA cluster to eliminate the scenario of hardware failure, but I do not see why the vCenter running Windows makes it more vulnerable than any computer on your network.  Like any other essential service, I would make sure that running the server vCenter vCenter only and that essential services only run including a client anti-malware.  I tend to take an approach more inside-out security and not an outside in approach.  I'm more concerned with security at the application layer to the edge of the network.  Again, which works best for my environment.

    Is there any fix planned for the slow lingering and pervasive in LR6/cc? I disabled the GRU.  I cleared the cache.  My catalogs are updated to LR 5.7.1.  Everything is slow.  It doesn't matter what it is.  Its takes twice as much time to do something.  LR will freeze for 5 to 15 seconds at a time without apparent reason.  The use cases are to go "Not responding" are numerous and vary widely.  I check the CPU during these events Nn sensitive usage and its pretty much slowed down.  I have check the disk usage and its also generally inactive.

    I thought it might be VSCO plugins, but it's not.  LR5.7.1 is always screaming fast while LR6 is an old slow cow.

    Here is an example that I saw that is repeatable:

    (1) start an import

    (2) choose the photos from an SD card

    3) click the + to add them to the catalog

    4) appears to enter a catalog name

    (5) start to type in the dialog box.
    (6) after may entered 8 letters, LR goes "Not responding", 10 seconds

    (7) after LR starts responding again, emphasis on catalog name field has been lost

    There is no reason for a freezing here.  The CPU does nothing.  The drive does nothing.

    There are things like that in every sense.

    Another example.

    (1) develop the Mode

    (2) select a photo

    (3) left and right panels are hidden

    (4) browse the side panel right of the mouse so that it will pop-out

    5) LR freezes for 5 seconds

    6( ) when the right panel opens, click on the number of exposure (0) and try to type in 1.25.

    7( ) after after graduating 1,2, LR hangs for 10 seconds.

    8( ) when LR answers once again, finishing by typing in the 5 other (1.25) and press to enter.

    9( ) the image immediately illuminates as expected.

    Yay!  They have updated LRCC/6 today.  The slowness and latency seem to have disappeared! Yay!  I can get back to work!

    Brand new to PowerCLI, I'm trying to create a script that will change the domain name and the DNS servers of my ESXi servers. I found that I need to update the Vmware.Vim.HostDnsConfig to update these settings. I created the following script and the following error.

    I guessed the error message that I need to a value in the host name, I do not need to change the host name. So I create a variable to remove the host name and place it in the $config. Line received host name but still a mistake because the variable is pulling more information that I need.

    When I insert the above code I have an error.

    You should be able to do easily by using the command "set-vmhostnetwork.

    I don't think that you can just write to VMWare.Vim.HostDnsConfig.

    What program you receive this error message?
    Have you tried another browser, for example Firefox or Opera?

    I guess it has something to do with your wireless network card or WLAN parameters if the LAN cable is working properly. So you should try to update the WLAN driver on the Toshiba site.
    Also, try to disable the filtering of MAC addresses and use another encryption.

    In the Admin, your right hand side top panel, mouse over your name and go to 'my details '. You will see a check box "Enable online content editing. Check this box, click on save and logout. Connection again and goto site manager, you will see more options like file manager

    You must repeat this process for all users admin ask them to connect and repeat this process.

I thought that the best way to proceed was use of the infrastructure manager to browse the data store and use the download feature to push the file in the store of vmfs... and then copy it and run the patch. But I can't copy it to another directory. I'll do a sudo cp and put in the root password... and then it just says: broken pipe. Said the same thing if I try and run the binary within the vmfs. What is the best way to do this?

    I deleted successfully installed grid Infrastructure software. Now, I installed again it but the installer complains about '[INS-40912] virtual host name assigned to another system on the network", which he complains not in the first installation process. :/

    EDIT: I checked and both nodes of the cluster are interpingable through their virtual IP address.

  • Connectivity issue - seems to be the DNS problem and or driver.

    I followed the instructions given in response to the previous questions for dealign with the server DNS error message does not not (check ipconfig for example).  Problem persists; connection continues falling.  Using Windows 7 Professional 64.  Prob can be with the drivers for Dell Wireless 5540.  Downloaded the driver but cannot install b/c of the authentication failure.  All suggestions, pls?  ISP (Fast hosts UK) is not useful at all on that.     A bad setting of domain name (DNS) of your network connection system can also this error. If a local DNS server has been changed for any reason, you will get this error.

    I suggest you to check your local DNS to make sure his game for Internet access.

  • Unable to connect to use Windows XP mode on a Virtual Machine, cannot share files between the Virtual Machine and host

    Because of the need to run some XP programs, I ordered Win7 Pro and installed a Virtual Machine with XP Mode.

    Managed to get it going somehow, but does not connect to my home network (can't see any other computers, which seems to be common with the host of Win 7, but here, I managed to install quick links to other computers - they will not work in XP Mode), even if the Internet connection is working perfectly.

    In addition, I can't find a way to share files with the host country, drive C appears to be different from that of the hosts with no common points (where it is currently stored beats me).

    I now have a customer who wants his site softdanmark.dk moved and accommodated with catalyst for business as the new design I've done for the company by muse and previewed as: softdanmark.businesscatalyst.com.

    I've already added the domain name to Business Catalyst and gave him the dns data, but he still wants the email (MX) belong to the TDC, where he has his Office 365.

    Is it possible to only move the DNS server and keep the MX record at the old company?

    You do not change the NS records, all you need to do is point the web traffic, so yes, have your screenshot you just need to change the record and when you set up the site in British Colombia you say outside.

  • Where are stored the DNS? HA config question

    I have 6 hosts ESX 3.5 on a private network. Don't not using DNS.

    I added the IP addresses and host names to all guests, including VC and confirmed that they can mutually ping by host name.

    Always make a config HA if error. When I go into the properties of the Vmotion on the VC switch and look at the DNS configuration tab, there:

    Name: mktgvmw20 (correct)

    Domain: empty nothing (correct)

    Preferred DNS: 192.168.10.1 (not good)

    I want my DNS preferred to say nothing. I have 3 other hosts configured in this way and they are working with the HA, but I can't figure out how to remove this DNS entry. When I try using the VC in this window, it is said, "the domain name is not in the correct format" and not save any changes I make to this DNS Configuration tab. I don't want a domain in there name.

    Where in ESX can I manually remove the preferred DNS entry? Thank you.
