Play older games.

Can games that run on Windows 98 / 2000 / Me / 95 played on Windows 7?

Thank you

Some can, some can't.

W7 a compatibility modes which help some older games running, so with a bit of violin some possible to run, even if they do not work by default in W7.

Is based on the game.

Also, see this site - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx and enter the game you are interested in. Not all games are listed, but are a bit.

Finally, check with the manufacturer of the game, as some may issue patches for W7 occasionally.

    Windows 95/98

    Hello

I currently have an Apple. There are a few games, I used to play (i.e. Rollercoaster Tycoon) which are mainly Windows 95/98.

I have considered buying a less expensive to play PC. What I have to buy windows 95/98 or y at - it a newer version which will still play older games?

I read a blog that says Windows 8 would not work with most, but perhaps Windows 7. I tried many different ways to play games on the Apple and in some cases, I can play them, but it will eventually stopped my computer during registration or something of that kind.

Any suggestions? Of course, a suggestion at low cost is nice instead of buying a new computer.

Good luck finding a windows 95 or 98.

You'll have to do some research on Google or in the game forums to see what o/s these games could work. But I wouldn't count on much of this old games.

  • Down computer when I play older games

Driver ATI Radeon HD 5800 is blocked (I tried updates research said its date too) when I play older games like assassin creed, star wars jedi knight jedi academy. Just got this computer last month. I tried the Troubleshooting compatibility so many different times and always the older games I play the crash. pls help

The best thing I can say that each of you is to wait for the best drivers for your video card, because your problems are the result of video card drivers.  The latest drivers I tried to fixed ATI actually a graphic error I had with one of my games on Windows 7.  I always use Vista ultimate 64 as my main OS because I lose some features I love when you go to Win 7.  But other that some problems of video card drivers, I've not really had no problems with Windows 7. I have a simple philosophy: just assume everyone is a piece of c.r.a.p. and then be pleasantly surprised if you find someone who is not.

  • D3drm.dll is missing when playing old games

    Original title: D3drm.dll is missing?

Trying to play older games (a 2005 other 2003) out of the CD, but will not work with the message saying d3drm.dll is missing for both. Tried to download the microsoft directX update, but the message remains displayed. Tried downloading the DXSDK_Jun10.exe file (Mats_Run.devices and Mats_Run.dvd) hard time trying to fix it.  Help?

I'm also trying to get TopoUSA4 to run Win7, placing the d3drm.dll in the folder of the executable, the Windows folder or several other likely places did not help.

    ///////////////UPDATE/////////////////////

Place the missing dll to the root of the OS and with the executable file of the TopoUSA4 actually worked after a reboot. If you get this file (d3drm.dll) from a google source that you don't know, scan it with your antivirus protection or other software (e.g. Malwarebytes). I was lucky.

From this day (November 2012), you can get a version zipped DLL here: http://www.dll-files.com/d3drm.zip?0WHfUEaKiU note that you don't have the repair program that installs, just read the instructions for use the zip file under the heading "How to install d3drm.dll" on this page: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3drm. Once again, as of this writing, Avira and Malwarebytes report that the zip is clean.

  • Playing old games on (or in) Windows 7

Is anyway to play older games which worked on Windows 95, 98, in or around Wondows 7?

    Thank you!!

It is also a broad topic to give an appropriate response. You should restrict the question down to specific games that interest you. Each game has its own problems, and where you can find a patch to make the game compatible Windows 7 is very rare (some sites like the good old games, http://www.gog.com, offer copies remastered their favorites that are compatible - but which does not apply to all games you may prefer and is not free).

  • Is possible to install and play a game that requires an older version of the software?

Is possible to install and play a game that requires an older version of the software? I get the message "cannot open the application because the classroom environment is no longer supported.

It does not say "classic environment is no longer supported", by chance?

If that means he needs OS9 or earlier, or possibly 10.5.8 which has Rosetta, a Classic emulator.

What is the name of the game?

  • Trying to play older pc games

I don't know why but I can play the first Unreal Tournament, but I can't play the other. So I tried to go back to windows xp professional, but know that I can't even go back to that. I have some old pc games like COLLECTION of COMMAND & CONQUER, ARMED & DANGEROUS, WARCRAFT 2 and 3, EMPIRES DAWN OF THE MODERN WORLD.

    Hi Oscar_72,

    ·         You get errors while trying to play these games?

    ·         What version of windows are you using?

If a program written for an earlier version of Windows does not correctly, use the program compatibility Wizard to change the program compatibility settings. To manually change the settings of a program, use the individual program's compatibility tab.

Use this link to make older programs to run:

Follow the steps in the link to run older programs in compatibility mode.

    Windows vista Compatibility Center

    I hope this helps.

  • Use WMP to play audio files of older games triggers the Crash game

I have a game more Microsoft called Age of Empires. The game has some cool sound effects, I went into the game directory and played some of the sounds with Windows Media Player. Now when I try to play the game, it crashes when these sounds are triggered.

I learned that WMP adds a kind of coding for audio files when he plays, and that older games such as Age of Empires do not include this extra info so when the game tries to play the sounds, it crashes.

I tried to uninstall the game completely and put it back and even delete audio files and their replacement, but he did not set. It is only the sounds that I played on WMP that cause the game to Crash, all the sounds I was not playing on WMP still work fine.

Can you please tell me how to resolve this.

    Hi Halima,

Thanks for your reply. I managed to solve the problem in a different way. I open each file with a program (I use Adobe Audition) for audio editing, you click Save under and saved all of the audio files as new mp3 files, crushing & replace the original files. I did it in bulk by opening all the audio files at the same time and choosing "save all".

This seems to have removed the additional coding added to audio files in Windows Media Player and the game can play these audio files when triggered.

That said, I do not understand why crushing & replacing the mp3 files fixed the issue so that the uninstall & reinstall the game does not - this method of relocation removed all files of game (including all audio files) and replace them with the original from disk files, but still they cannot be triggered by the game. Maybe the computer recognized them somehow as the same files that WMP had altered and automatically change them again. Very strange.

    Thank you

    David

  • How to play the older game on wndows 7

I BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER AN EMACHINE THINKING I COULD PLAY MY GAMES MORE OLD BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND A WAY YO PLAY THOSE GAMES... I THOUGHT THAT THE MOST RECENT BEST AND WHY HAS THE POPULATION OF BLOCK MAKER PLAY GAMES MORE ALUMNI...

    Playergame,
As the technology advances software must be updated.  Depending on the game, you're wanting to play and how old they are, there are some things you can do to make them work on Windows 7.

Here are a few things to look at:
See if the game is compatible with Windows 7
    Windows 7 Compatibility Center

Make older programs run on Windows 7

Depending on your version of Windows 7 XP Mode

If the games are real old then you can watch a BACK emulator to run.  There are people in this forum who have run emulators BACK but I didn't, so I can't really recommend a. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

  • Cannot use my Vista to play older pc games (Fly! a 1999 version of the Terminal Velocity)

Hello, I have not been able to play a PC game called: fly! Terminal velocity, a 1999 edition, I tried many things by other sites as sugested: properties ckliking on the icon of the game and the Compatibility tab and switch to compatibility mode for older versions of windowas and also to change the levels of adjustment and or privileges, but not always working do not and that's what he said : MICROSOFT WINDOWS: FLY! AT STPPOED A LABOR PROBLEM CAUSES THE PROGRAM STOP WORKING WINDOWS CLOSES THE PROGRAM AND THE NOTITY YOU IF A SOLUTION IS AVAILABLE.

I don't see any notification not where any ways the thing is that I could not play this game can someone guide me in what else to do?

Some older games will not play on Vista no matter what you do. Some older games will not play on Windows 7 either. Some games that play on Vista won't play on Windows 7 etc etc.

  • I have several older games, I like to play, they are Compatible, not compatible.

    Original title:

    Compatible, not compatible.

    Win7 home 64 bit. OEM

I have several older games, I like to play. Age of Empires II, StarCraft Original, Empire Earth.

    Everything to Win98SE and XP.

I can get to install, but the games will only play in resolution 800 x 600. If I try to change the resolution, that the game will crash or system will freeze.

The video is of very poor quality. And games is jerking.

I tried compatibility mode, but there is no change.

This PC has two HDs. not connected at the same time. We got Win7. The other has XP.

The MB, graphics card, Ram is the same used on the two OSs.

I just unplug a HD and the other.

So with everything the same. Why the games perfectly preform on the hard drive on XP but not on the HD Win7?

The two HDs are the same brand and size. Just different OS.

Only thing I see is XP is 32 bit and Win7 64 bit. So, I guess that 64-bit is not backward compatible.

Boss thank you very much for your answer.

I do not 'Dual Boot'. I don't have that one BONE is connected at a time because of the problems of the past with the new OS, creating a sort of chaos with the operating system older. It seems to work a heck of a lot better that way. Neither OS has no memory of the other.

I seem to have understood "Empire Earth" works pretty well.

I read another post of similar problem. The answer was to install the game via the open/explore the game CD and clicking on the 'Setup.Exe' instead of using the "Auto install".

The game is loaded without a problem and works well with the Nvidia card. The graphics are excellent.

I'll try the same method on other games. I hope that it will work with the same great results.

Thanks again for your concern and Advisor.

  • Tecra M2: Can play a game of the graphics card?

It seems that play Flight Simulator could destroy the graphics card on the laptop! I never thought this would be possible. I gave a friend my old Tecra M2 (as a wedding gift) which he also uses to play FS9. A few years ago, he had to have the motherboard replaced (Fortunately it's still under warranty then) because it has become defective. This has happened while he was playing FS9. I never thought that at that time.

It seems like the same problem comes up again, but this time the laptop isn't under warranty anymore. Nothing has been changed on the video card to "accelerate" or "chip" or another - it is standard at the factory. The latest drivers are installed for the Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200 32 M / 64 M and the portable computer has 1 GB of RAM (and a lot of space on the HARD disk).

At startup, the Toshiba logo has green vertical lines. The Windows logo also has the same symptoms, the vertical lines. I was able to boot in safe mode, a few times, then it started normally (I was onto a winner of thought), but now it seems just blue screen and reboot after Windows Logo (even if I didn't no reset in case of failure). After the reboot, I got a blue screen (BSOD not usual) with the next STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0 x 01010101, 0xF7911378, 0xF7911074).

Any ideas? I'd be really upset if I found out that a game could physically cause a motherboard to replace on a laptop! If this is true, can someone tell me how to prevent it in the future? I have a Tecra M3 and I don't want to happen to me either!

    Thank you!

    -Emm.

    Hi mate,

the fact is that I would NEVER play FS9 even on my machine which is a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with 1 GB of RAM and a geforce 7800GS.
Flight Simulator 9 needs AS many system resources and in your case it s like you take 500 tons of steel and throw on a single donkey.

The M2 is a pure business machine and not scheduled to play these games like FS9 needing beasts of machines to run * correctly *. Maybe the older games are playable, but I think that it s right that FS9 could probably damaged your graphics unit (overheating).
You won´t move swap the motherboard and let your FS9 fingers when you hold an M2 or M3 or a set of non-game in your hands.

The man, who is ill, the poor M2 then FS9... :D

Clear from the statement to me: Yes, a game CAN probably damage a portable system, but not for sure! And an M2/M3 is not to play these games. Rather spent the money for a system with a Geforce 8600 Core2Dou or something similar.

    Welcome them
