I have one but have no manual. Looked on the Toshiba site but does not tell me how to access BIOS which is obviously a problem.

    Hello

The fact is that not all external CD/DVD drives are supported for the start.
You need an individual. As far as I know the compatible is a PX1055E-1NST.
But this device only comes with a 32-bit cardbus card. This card will be recognized only in the Windows operating system.
You need a 16-bit cardbus card. The Bios can recognize this card and you can boot from the external drive.

Note: The pc card controller option must be set to automatic selection or CCIP compatible.

You can try this service partner which is in Bavaria and served with some very good service:

If they allow couldn t you can go in the global ASP Locator on the toshiba site and look for another. Usually the ASP should be able to serve with some recovery in General...

  • Box Portege 3500 replacement

Recently got a 3500 off of ebay, happy with it because it does the job I want, however, it seems a bit faded and has some damage (due to age, etc.), and I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere to get new boxes of replacement for the portege 3500 and approximate costs. I have looked around, but can't find anything anywhere.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Daniel

Generally, all parts can be bought from the authorized Toshiba maintainer in your country. Technicians should be able to order the original parts of the lacrosse head of Toshiba.

Here you will find the ASP that is responsible for your country:

So just make a call and ask for help.

  • Portege 3500: Need a new HARD drive

    Hello

I bought a Portege 3500 and after a few weeks of use, the hard disk or fan (safe) started to make loud noises and now every time I turn on the laptop screens toshiba rises and it happens eventually to a screen I wrote what he said below.

I read somewhere that this means that my hard drive is over and I have to buy a new hard drive.
Is this true and if so anyone know where I can get a drive hard because the laptop is old?

The only one I've seen that is in stock is of about £230 and it's about the same price, I bought the laptop.
Or is there a solution ive tried going on in all modes but it just restarts and Ive also tried to reinstall the OS using the cd but I can't in the menu option to reinstall XP.

    Hello

AFAIK Portege 3500 was equipped with the 40 GB IDE HDD.
This is why you must use an IDE hard drives (not SATA).

    Now, it would be important to know what max HD size could be compatible;
If the laptop supports 40 GB I think a 60 GB HARD drive might work too.

I think that you should just google for some 40 GB, 60 GB hard drives, that supports the IDE!

  • How to read a film on Portege 3500?

My external DVD player is only recognized with this card: "DVD - Rom drive / CD Boot, install and recovery (PCMCIA CARD). It will not play DVD... at jump, etc.

When I try and connect using the "DVD - Rom drive / DVD playback for high Performace (CardBus card)"-I get NOTHING. The drive is not recognized in my computer.

Can anyone help? I'm not "tech-savvy" and have a daughter who wants nothing more than to play a film on this laptop older (Portege 3500).

    Thank you!!!

Have you changed the PC Card controller mode in BIOS Toshiba?
This option could be found on the second page of the BIOS.

Usually it s set to autoselect.
First you need to change the configuration parameters of device for all devices and then you will be able to change the mode of controller of compatible CCIP or Cardbus/16 bit PC card or selected automatically.

I recommend all three verification options!

Just sign me up my laptop Portege 3500 on this site (like my second laptop tosh)

The robot says that serial number is invalid.

    what I am doing wrong?

    Hello

I can't believe that it s is not possible.
I have only one explanation for this problem. You have just mixed numbers or used the wrong.
You should really check the serial number again. It should appear on the label at the bottom of the unit.

  • Portege 3500 - how to reinstall XP?

    Hello.
I have a problem with my portege 3500.

The computer became very slow, it has never been formatted, and I suspect this years of highlights of program accumulated and parts is originally that it runs slowly. The original supplied with the computer disks were lost and even if I had this model does not have to put in a CD player. Its been to the local repairer for toshiba, but they do not have the proper software to format the drive and reload xp.

Y at - it a type of toshiba recovery software that does not exist to format and reinstall the operating system? I tried to download various system tools to clean the drive, but nothing helped.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello

The Toshiba recovery disc can t be downloaded. It s only comes with your laptop. Only chance is in touch with an authorized service provider. Maybe they have such a disc

If this is not the case, your only chance is using a Microsoft XP disk. You can perform an installation without CD/DVD drive, if you copy the disk XP i386 folder on your HARD drive. Then start the winnt.exe file to start the installation of XP.

Here in the forum, I founded a great announcement about. Just use the forum search! ;)

  • Portege 3500 operating temperature?

    Hello

My Portege 3500 crashes regularly (the monitor continues to show what was the last one on the screen, but no entry is accepted, not even ctrl-alt-del) I have to hold in the power button until the laptop turns off to restart. I think that this could be due to overheating and try to check it out using speedfan to monitor temperatures.

Does anyone know what temperature ranges are acceptable for the 3 temperature gauges that speedfan reports (Temp Local, remote Temp and Temp1)?

    Thank you
    -Jason.

It's not easy to say what temperature is acceptable. On my laptop, I recorded about 60 ° C and everything run ok.
I assume you are using unit for a long time as well as the fans have not been cleaned.
You can try to do. But be careful. If you have no experience, you shouldn't have t do.
Additional you should always be sure that there is enough free space around the laptop for cool air circulation.

PS: you may install the Everest application. This tool provides a lot of information on the entire system.
After cleaning, you can compare the temporary values

  • Question about the Installation of Windows XP on Portege 3500 home

I have a second hand Portege 3500 with WXP tablet 2005 Server Pack 2 market version, but without the original disks. However, recently had a virus that did something to Prime the area on the hard disk. I have removed the virus but now get unexpected core dumps memory and system restarts when you try to connect to the internet.

Question: can I go down a level and safely install ordinary WXP software to work around the problem or the acquisition of new version of WXP Tablet and reinstall the software to circumvent the problem of core dump?

Installation of an operating system on this laptop, it's the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. Once start you, you will notice that there is no device boot attached to this pc. To install windows, yourself, the only options are to buy the cdrom drive for this laptop toshiba external or install via a network.

The toshiba cdrom drive is now quite obsolete, more expensive and the external device only that the laptop starts from (I tried with the other external cdroms, DVDs, disks usb keys and hard). It seems extremely difficult to boot from lan unless you already manage it infrastructure of the company. It is possible in theory, but after 3 weeks I still hadn't thought about her.

My solution at the end of the day was to send it to my local toshiba support center and ask them to re - install for me (he happened to have one in stock toshiba cdrom burners). I got the installation cd, so I guess you will need get these images from toshiba as well (or buy another os).

    Good luck!

  • Driver Atheros WPA does not-Portege 3500

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Portege 3500, but it only works with Toshiba adapter wireless network (WEP, only).
    Even I tried:

    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/Su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soID=553445
    It won't work!
    The device cannot start.

    Any suggestion?

    Thank you
    Liviu

    Hello

Nothing to man the kind of WLan encriptación depends on material and not on the software (driver wlan).
If the WLan card hardware does not support WPA, so you cannot use it and the driver update or new installation will not help!

    If you want to use WPA you have two options;
you need to replace the Wlan card or you will use an external solution such as a PCMCIA card or USB WiFi key.

I want to upgrade the driver of 7.43.0.9 to the new site 7.63.0.9 (because I need WPA security)

The process seems to be okay, I chose wlags48.inf, several copied files, BUT in the end, I get the message
An error occurred during the installation of this device

I can go back to the old driver tbhe without problem

I tried to disable the adapter and even turn it off with the switch

I tried to do the upgrade mode safe

    Anyone has any suggestions please?

    Steve

    Hello Steve

I'm really skeptical about WPA security, but maybe you can relate more after installing the driver successfully. Download driver driver and extract it to the new folder created somewhere on the desktop. When you start the driver installation please choose the advanced option and navigate in that order.

As far as I know you should not choose anything just browse in the right folder. Please try again.

  • Portege 3500 - problems pcmcia

    Hello
I bought a reader of external cd for my portege 3500.
This is the original toshiba drive (connectet via a pcmcia 32-bit card and bootable)
I run WindowsXP Tablett Edition on the tablet.

When I plug the device in the slot pcmcia, nothing happens. (Windows Device Manager indicates also nothing new)
Should I have all the drivers to use pcmcia devices or do I have to change something in the bios?

The reader is 100% working, I tested it with another laptop.

    Hope you can help me
    Leon

Look in the BIOS for a setting that allows you to switch between <->CardBus PCMCIA mode.

Ensure that the slots are running ok in Device Manager.

You have another PCCard you can test in the laptop?

It is possible that the pins inside the PCMCIA slot can be bent or broken. Look in the slot with a torch and make sure that all the stems are straight.
