Portege R500 - how to activate Vista backlight function?

Hello

I installed Vista Ultimate x 86 on my R500. To enable all the features that I have downloaded all the drivers from the Toshiba support pages - including value-added Pakage, who as far as I know should enable the backlight function. However, I was not able to turn on the backlight of the laptop features. If I press the button for backlight function nothing happens :-(

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Kind regards

Johannes

Hello

First of all he must know that sometimes it can happen that Toshiba VAP would not fully support Vista Ultimate.
This means that some features unique VAP wouldn not like on preinstalled Vista Home Premium

In any case, there are a few options that need to be verified;
First go into the BIOS and check if the LED light is activated (some BIOSES contain this option). Second, you should check the Toshiba control utility buttons if LED lighting has been assigned to this button too.

I m R500 not owner but I have are a U400 Sat and lighting such option in my Toshiba control utility.

I have can´t activate so lspci even can not find the umts modem.

I tried an option in the bios saying "Device Config: all devices / Setup by OS" (I tried the first option all devices), but I can't yet find the Linux umts modem.

I also downloaded the utility toshet [http://www.schwieters.org/toshset/] but didn t find any option related to 3 g/umts modems.

    Thanks in advance.

FN key features are controlled by the tool designed by Toshiba. Toshiba doesn't support Linux for now and as a result there is no Linux tool to achieve this.

  • How to activate the Sleep function to put the computer to sleep if a program is open?

I have Windows Vista basic on a desktop Dell 530.  I found that if I have a program or application running (such as I-tunes or windows media player) then the Sleep function will not put the computer to sleep.  How to activate the Sleep function to replace these programs and put the computer to sleep?

Note: This is how it was with windows XP, the Sleep function would put the computer to sleep no matter what was running, he was reliable, if you left the computer and I forgot that you had something running.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi kevino4130,

If you disable sharing on your computer (not only the power settings) of media, it should allow him to enter the mode 'sleep'.

See if that does not solve your problem and let us know.

  • How to activate the search function.  I get no match found when I search for words on the scanned PDF document

How to activate the search function.  I get no match found when I search for words on the scanned PDF document

A scanned document is just an image; even if it contains text, it is not searchable.

Put text in a scanned image available, you will need to perform the recognition of text (OCR), which can be made with Acrobat, but not the free player.

  • Portege Z30t - how to disable display backlight?

    Hello

I'm just trying to find how to disable the backlight of the display on my new Z30t.
While the process is always running, just to save energy.

Here, I have the FN keys to put the light upwards or downwards, but they won't back down to zero, and there is no key to stop.
I've had 6 laptops so far, and all had a FN key to turn off the display to save power.
So I'm kind of scratching my head, how to do here.

In addition, I would like to reprogram some FN keys as I don't need FN standby and hibernation.
Could not find information on this topic, also.

    Any idea? Help, please!

    Thanks, Tommy

You can use the FN in order to increase and decrease the backlight of the display, but you can not close the screen completely using these function keys.

If you want to turn off the display after a certain time, I recommend you to change the settings in the Windows power options.

Go to the Control Panel-> Power Options
Select a map page of power, on the left click here, choose when turn off the display.
The parameters of change for the plan page, choose the display settings you want to use for this power plan when your laptop is running on battery and when it is plugged.

  • The display is loose on my Portege R500 - how to tighten the hinges?

The display is loose on my portege r500.

Does anyone know how to tighten the hinges?

    Hello

I think that this procedure is very delicate and in my opinion it s a job for a technician.
I m don't know if you can tighten the hinges if necessary he s need to replace the old hinges

Is it the hinges are hidden under the plastic around the screen frame.
The LCD mask is fixed with screws I m but not quite sure how much could be three screws. They are hidden under the mask of small cushions.
You will need to remove and the tightness of the extra mask.
Then you can remove the LCD mask. The hinges should be visible now

But there s more complicated as it may seem the R500 is a nice unit, and it would be a shame that you would damage the LCD screen. The LCD screen is an expensive part, and in my opinion it is worth to ask a professional for help

  • Portege R500: Fingerprint Software and VIsta SP1 problems

I encounter another problem which seems to be related to the fingerprint software. If I install the software, no issue arises. Once I register the fingerprints, the system slows down. Same clang of the other computers in the domain, in that I am, the response slows down gradually and then fails several times, before becoming inaccessible.

Then as Exlopre crashes after a while. If I can stop the command, it hangs at the screen bright blue vista saying "logout". Then, the only way to turn off the computer is by holding down the power button.

I log back in again once, unregister the fingerprint and all works well.
    Any idea? Thank you

P.S. The software and drivers Vista SP1 and Toshiba are fully patched/updated

    Hello

I am interested in your question, you are connected to a domain and use the fingerprint software in the network?

Well, how it works in the Working Group?
Have you noticed the same slowdowns system using laptop computer not connected to the network?

Please check this because I guess that there is local connection between domain parameters (server) and your stored settings on the R500.

  • Satellite L300 - how to activate the RW function after installing xp?

After my laptop was repaired with a new hard drive, I installed xp instead of vista.
Now I can use the dvd rom for watching movies and install programs, but it is not accessible to any blank discs.
The error window comes out whenever I have insert the drive empty and click the dvd rom.
And the size of it always shows 0 bytes. CD or blank dvd-smoking works.

Because it's a dvd/RW rom, usually I can just open and drag any file I want on the disc and then burn easily.
I already updated the firmware driver.

I wonder what the problem of the xp system that blocks the RW function?

    Hi mate

Check the suggestion posted by Akuma.
But, in addition, you can check if the write option is enabled in the ODD properties.

For this, go to my computer-> CD/DVD drive properties (right click / Properties) registration mark called the option activate the writing of CD on this drive
