  • Portege R700-1hd: Questions about HARD drive replacement and passwords

I have a 1hd R700 with 320 GB HARD drive in stock. I want to upgrade it to 500 GB. This update should be pretty simple, cloning from the old to the new.

However, I was wondering about the HARD drive password / finger.
My HARD drive it configured to use a fingerprint/password on boot - I guess that it is involved in the BIOS and the drive itself, but I'm not exactly sure how.
I think the HARD drive itself is locked, it is not a Windows or BIOS password.

If I change the HARD drive will still be able to use startup disk HARD password/fingerprint? Are there requirements for material of HARD drive I need to consider before buying new HARD drive? As should be a specific type of HARD drive to work with password disk HARD/fingerprint digital?

    Thank you

    Hi bullerd,

The HARD drive password is stored on the HARD drive so when you replace the HARD drive you must set a new password of HDD in BIOS. The password is not stored in the BIOS. In addition fingerprints can also be stored on the HARD drive or let s say fingerprint digital software but all of the operating system must be installed after Exchange HARD drive so it s new problem.

So the two passwords you mentioned are stored on the HARD drive so it s no problem to swap the HARD drive. :)

  • Portege won't go in HARD drive recovery

    Hello
I have a laptop Portege that I want to get back to the default settings after news of windows 7 has been installed on the system. I did it in the past of the system while now the key 0 down however now I see when I do it is the label of "HARD Drive Recovery Mode" down left and then the operating system loads normally.

No idea what is the problem here? How can I force the recovery process?
(I don't see the recovery partition in Windows.)
    Thank you
    Erez.

    Hello

HARD drive recovery option is available when the laptop to factory settings.
    >... after a new of windows 7 has been installed on the system.
If you have installed your own Windows version HARD drive recovery option is no longer available.
In this case, you can install original recovery image using recovery media (DVD).
You have created the media according to the instructions described in the user s manuals document?

  • Recently, Portege R500 does not recognise external drives

Vista SP2 - fully implemented to date.
I have 2 external drives to backup-last used about a month it is a Maxtor and Seagate.
Now neither are listed in the Solution Explorer, even if the computer is knows they are there because the two happen when I use the icon 'remove '.

Both drives work in another office of Windows 7, and all ports USB R500 with a USB key and SD card reader. Have you tried the update of drivers.
Paragon Hard Disk Manager knows they are there as well and lists their properties.

However, Paragon will not allow them to be used for the backup. Any ideas?

    Hello

You can try to remove the USB host and USB controllers from Device Manager.
Restart the unit. USB controllers should be recognized automatically. Then connect one of the hard drives USB ports USB portable s and check if the device would be recognized.

You can also try to restart the * plug-and-play service.
You will need to go to computer management (right click on computer and select Manage).
New window appears, then here you must choose Services.

Choose * Plug-and-Play * and disable it (if enabled).
Activate the service once more, and then connect the USB HDD.

  • Portege M300 fails to recognize HARD drive

Last week, I replaced the hard drive on my laptop Toshiba Portege M300 to a larger drive. It worked very well for a coupe of days, but when I tried to plug in the hard drive of origin back in (to copy data on a network share, which I forgot to transfer to the new hard drive) he does not see the drive. I tried to set the new drive and he can't see it either.

I tested the original and new hard drive on a different laptop and they work so I can't guess the willing Portege of a faulty ide controller or the ide cable. No matter which hard drive, I am attaching the trys to laptop to boot from the CD-ROM, ignores the hard drive and the NIC PXE trys. The bios indicates also theres no hard disk attached too.

First of all, if the CD-ROM drive still work am I right in thinking the ide controller is still work?

Secondly could someone suggest where I can buy an ide for a M300 cable because it is a ribbion printed circuit board which I have never seen elsewhere. I guess this is part of Toshiba custom?

    Hello

I believe also that it is Toshiba custom component and it will be much better in the service partner contact in your country. AFAIK this Portege is very nice and expensive unit and you should not do it alone. If you have a hardware problem allow technicians to do it for you. Small mistake and you can just have big problem.

Are you sure that you did not damage something?

  • Portege 3500: Need a new HARD drive

    Hello

I bought a Portege 3500 and after a few weeks of use, the hard disk or fan (safe) started to make loud noises and now every time I turn on the laptop screens toshiba rises and it happens eventually to a screen I wrote what he said below.

I read somewhere that this means that my hard drive is over and I have to buy a new hard drive.
Is this true and if so anyone know where I can get a drive hard because the laptop is old?

The only one I've seen that is in stock is of about £230 and it's about the same price, I bought the laptop.
Or is there a solution ive tried going on in all modes but it just restarts and Ive also tried to reinstall the OS using the cd but I can't in the menu option to reinstall XP.

    Hello

AFAIK Portege 3500 was equipped with the 40 GB IDE HDD.
This is why you must use an IDE hard drives (not SATA).

    Now, it would be important to know what max HD size could be compatible;
If the laptop supports 40 GB I think a 60 GB HARD drive might work too.

I think that you should just google for some 40 GB, 60 GB hard drives, that supports the IDE!

  • Portege 3440CT: how to format HARD drive

    Hi all

After suffering a little frustration, I decided to use the wealth of knowledge and experience which is available on the support forum.

I have a Portege 3440CT which has been delivered to my friend a few years ago, by a company she worked at the time. When the company replaced the laptop, we were allowed to keep the old, we use very occasionally. Unfortunately, the laptop has recently experienced a failure total and irrecoverable from the original hard drive, which was not a huge setback because there was no essential data there.

In any case, I have from a compatible spare hard drive - a Hitachi 30 GB ATA-5 / IDE 2.5 "9.5 mm 4200 RPM, Pt not ' DK23CA-30F - and mounted, but as the hard disk is not formatted the laptop does not see it is there. As I said earlier, the laptop was provided by the employer, so we are not in possession of any recovery disks Toshiba or Windows that may have been provided, the laptop was originally running Windows 98 Second edition, and the sticker detailing the product key is always on the underside.

I approached one of the suppliers of services of Toshiba for help and they directed me to Toshiba.
Toshiba says that the laptop is no longer supported so they directed me to a service provider, I went around in circles.

My question is, if I bought a copy of Windows 98 SE, or Windows XP and installed on the external floppy drive, which would also include a facility to format the hard drive? I think that in Windows 98 Second edition, there was a function of FDISK. I was able to access the pages of the BIOS after looking through advice given here, I can change the order of boot with no problems

What I request, essentially, is that now, I have installed a new hard drive, what do I do next?

    > My question is, if I bought a copy of Windows 98 SE, or Windows XP and installed on the external floppy drive, which would also include a facility to format the hard drive?

Yes, definitely Yes! The installation of Win98or of other versions of Windows like W2K or XP provides an option to format the HARD drive before installing the operating system.
Simply boot from the bootable CD to get this feature.

    Thank you

    Hello

First of all, you need to use the HARD drive adapter selectable right Bay which is compatible with the Portege S100.

I found an and it seems that the HARD drive adapter Bay selectable PA3408U-1ETC is the right!
Case Interface is serial ATA (SATA). And the Serial - ATA 80GB HDD Kit PA3407U - 1 H 80 must be compatible with the select Bay case

  • Satellite P100-307 Exchange HARD drive help/advice needed

    Hello

Thanks for your recent advice on exchanging my 200 GB HDD in to a 500 GB Sized HDD.

Can you please let me know what I should do with the new HARD disk, so that my P100 can recognize (I format etc.)? I would like the existing to the new mirrored HDD... How does go?

Sorry to bother you with this beginner Questions...

    RGDS

Windows will recognize a new hard drive (I assume that you will start the machine from cd) and it has need of formatting it will tell you. You will then need to change the format to FAT32 to NTFS - Windows Help will tell you how to...
If you are keen on the old disk to the new disk of mirror image, then I think that google some research is in order for example "mirror new portable drive ' there are older versions of disk imaging programs available for free download that will handle NTFS. to search for names include Norton Ghost and Acronis.
How do you think 'connect' the old and new readers - for example, external usb box on a network, set up two disks on a pc.
You can copy all the files using the DOS command xcopy with the selector include hidden files/folders.
Your old drive has a hidden for purposes of recovery partition and you must decide how you manage it.

  • HP Mini 2102: Exchange hard drive on HP Minis (2102/110-1025DX)

I have two HP Minis; 2102 and 110-1025DX. Both are running Windows 10 Pro and were responsible for similar programs.

For several reasons, I want to be able to swap hard drives between these two devices, but I don't know how possible it would be. My questions are:

    1. The OS Win 10 Pro would be recognized by the new devices? Should I just change the product key after permutation to "force" an acceptance?
    2. Drivers: I don't know how the pilots could be loaded. They both use the HP Wizard, I could simply run to load the best drivers?
    3. 'Detail' is my MS Office programs; one of my main goals is to move from Office 2010 Pro Plus to the other Mini, but I lost the installation media. I said that office 2010 Pro Plus cannot be downloaded from MS as other office products.
    4. All that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for help on this issue.

If the two laptops are allowed to run Windows 10 i.e. are "activated" you should be able to swap hard drives. 10 Windows is enabled by Microsoft's servers and they must recognize that the host of transplant (I'll use donor and host to refer to the original computer that had the hard drive and the computer where he ends up, respectively) is OK to run Windows 10. Just to be safe, I would have the key for the handy host but you shouldn't have to use it. Drivers will probably not be a problem because all netbooks are essentially the same material. If you're worried, drivers for the host system are held in a C:\swsetup folder on the hard drive that you can copy to use if necessary in the host system after transplantation.

The question is the activation of the Office program. I'm not too familiar with how the works of its licensing and activation but I think there may be a problem of EULA with you trying to do or copyright.

You can buy MS Office 2010 Pro Plus for cost not much:

  • Disk not configured VM after Exchange hard drive Slots / berries

Hi - I have 5.5 ESXi configured HP DL380 G6 server and three independent logical drives.  I had exchanged a HDD in slot 1 with slot 3 to do a test, but then he returned to original slots.

In the ESXi VMware client, I see the detected hard drives but next to him said ' ' unconfigured disk and virtual machines, I say unknown inaccessible. "

I removed the VM of the inventory by pressing a note KM, but the problem is that I do not see my data stores, none of the hard disk appears in the Configuration > storage > devices section. If I can see them in the Configuration > health > storage area.

Any thoughts on what I can do for the disc to be recognized, all that was done was split/Bay 1 hard drive was moved to slot/Bay 3 and vice versa.

Would appreciate the help as I would not start over.

    Thank you!

  • Portege R100 - the upgrade the hard drive in the SDS?

    Hello

I was wondering if someone has improved their HDD R100 to a SDS drive?
I would like to change my current 40 GB to a disk ~ 64 GB SDD and I was wondering if there is a mark that is one that would be plug-and-play.
I think the hard drive is an IDE 50 pins?

Any recommendations where to buy one?

    Thank you
    Matt

    Hello!

Hama also makes SSD with 1.8 and IDE interface.

But the best way is you go to your local computer store and ask prices and manufactured products.
Maybe you can also find in the good internet offers. Try with Google.

  • Speed up the options for an old HP a1224n. The upgrade possible CPU or HARD drive?

My a1224n is stuck in programs such as Rhapsody and ITunes run.  I have 4 teenagers with mp3 players, and it seems that more they get, slow tracks of the machine.  Under XP SP3, motherboard is 3 goldfish with a LGA775 socket.  I have all the RAM pushed in there, I can get.  It is not a problem of spyware, I clean, degrag and regedit regularly, firmer all the essential background programs.  It was a long introduction to my question, which is: would changing the CPU or install a higher speed of disk HARD save me, or am I wasting time?  If so, what limits me on the selection of a CPU?  This is a speed of frontside motherboard, socket or something else (I know heat load and the processor speed max are issues).  ... Change my hard drive or install a second hard drive?  I would replace the current 200 GB 7200 rpm HDD with a 600 10 k RPM HARD drive, or simply add a second HD and empty all my media files?  A lot of questions, can't find someone who knows the answers.  Need help.  Here are some indications of the fact sheets: processor Intel Pentium 4 519 (P), 3.06 GHz, 533 MHz front bus, Socket 775.  Motherboard: ASUS LRTP-(3 fish red-GL8E), the front bus at 800 MHz, chipset northbridge 915GV, southbridge Intel ICH6.

    Hello:

If you have installed 4 GB of DDR PC3200, then if you install used without work, processor Pentium 4 650 3.4/800/2M I think you will see a notable improvement on your current configuration.

I can't guarantee this will work, but I'm sure it will, based on the information below.

If you don't have PC2700, your memory performance will suffer with the 800 MHz FSB P4 650 processor.

Attached are the specs of your motherboard:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00361570

I have a dc7100 with the same chipset, so I'm pretty sure that a P4 650 will work in your. I have a P4 640 (3.2 GHz) I got it for free, so I installed which instead of the 650. If I were to buy one, I would have bought the 650. I installed a P4 650 in a Dell Dimension 4700 with the same Intel 915 chipset. Works great! I upgraded the Dell of a P4 520 to 650 2.8/800/1M and this was a significant improvement. You would increase by nearly 400 MHz and 266 Mhz FSB speed.

HP has drivers for PC for Windows Vista and Windows 7 64-bit. The only processors that can work with an OS that is supported with the chipset 915, 64 bits are P4 6xx processors. So, I guess that your PC supports processors P4 6xx up to 3.4 GHz, as shown in the plug from motherboard.

You can get a P4 650 used but works for less than $25 on eBay.

I do not see an update of the BIOS that requires support new processors, so you should be good to go.

If your HARD drive is less than 60% full, I see no need for an additional HARD drive. I don't even know if the computer supports a 10 K rpm HARD drive.  I don't know if your machine's HARD drive controller supports SATA II HDD's 3.0 GB/S transfer speeds. I don't think he does.  So no matter what HARD drive you buy would go to 1.5 GB/S SATA transfer speed and you could you jumper the drive for this work.

The main disadvantage that I see on your PC, it is impossible to install a PCie graphics adapter. Your integrated graphics (GMA900) will not work the graphics of Windows Aero in Windows 7 or Vista. It is not a show-stopper, but a lot of people have improved their PC / laptop computers equipped with the integrated GMA 900 graphics card just for this discover later and were very disappointed. If you were able to install a PCIe graphics card, say a cheap 8400GS 512 MB fanless nVidia card, it would have released a memory embedded amount and you would have noticed an improvement even more.

So, for an investment of $25 in a P4 processor 650 you could squeeze a few more horses (no pun intended) out of it.

Other than that, I would look to buy a new PC / opportunity made from 2008. They should all be able to Windows 7 because they would have been Windows Vista capable in 2008.

    I hope this helps.

    Paul

  • Can Portege M400 - I install SATA2 HARD drive?

I want to replace my old SATA1 80 GB HD with a new 250 GB HD, but I can not get a proper HD SATA1, are the SATA II compatible with the M400 HDs? Would your recommend a suitable HD?

Also, I want to install Windows 7 starts as a clean install (to replace the current XP Tablet edition). I seem to remember that there could be problems with getting drivers raid in place first, is this correct?

    Can anyone help please?

    TIA

    Chris

    Hello!

Disks hard SATA2 will work in Portege M400 because they are compatible downgrade to SATA1. It s the same interface but the theoretical transfer rate is higher. The only difference which s.

For the installation of Windows 7, you should try the RAID for Vista driver. The Vista drivers are also work on Windows 7.
