Portege S100 - recommendation for OS

I have a renovated, clean, S100 without an operating system. I want only the computer for simple tasks. What is the recommended way to go cheap?

XP Professional was the original.

I just looked on the page of the toshiba driver and could find the drivers for your model only xp and win 2000. Thus, I think, you should use Win Xp. For Windows 7 or vista, you need to perform your own search to Google and think that most of them is not available for your knees.

Quick question - a keyboard for a Portege S100 will work in a Portege M100?

Page layout looks like. Although a different color.

    Hello

I think that you can not use the same keyboard as the Portege S100 supports the year-easy-to-use 84 keys (US) or 85-keyboard (UK) and the Portege M100 supports the year-easy-to-use 85/86-keyboard.
In addition, the S100 connector supports the keyboard interface 34 CN3230 pins and the M100 supports PJ3230 34pin keyboard connector.

So maybe this could be a problem.
I recommend using the original keyboards published for each laptop model.

    Hello

Unfortunately, no one here can help you with this. BIOS password is very important security feature, and it cannot be resolved in some public forums.
This can be solved with only authorized service.

Response code can be given only by Toshiba and they don't give it to anyone. Authorized service provider can only get it after checking if the laptop has not been stolen.
Contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and they can help you wth this.

    Bye and good luck.

  • Need drivers for my Portege S100

    Hello

    I have notebook, Portege S100 model: PPS10E-o1t019en
On the www, I can't find this model and the pilot...

    Please help me.

    Where can I find it?

    Mark

    Hello

The problem is that Satellite S100 has a RAID controller, you the RAID driver XP can detect the internal HARD drive.
As wrote Feliks you can download the from the official page of Toshiba under Archive.

Either you create a new drive bootable XP with RAID driver or you load them from external floppy drive.

  • Unable to start Portege S100 after the HDD with SafeBoot encryption

I am trying to install the full encryption of the disk of SafeBoot (McAfee Endpoint) of 100 + laptops, which most is Toshiba. I use Device Encryption 5.1.5.0, liberation 5300 (515-0015) and I was able to install successfully on a number of different models of Toshiba, however, the Portege S100 causing me a problem. The customer of SafeBoot software installs OK on Windows XP SP2 (and SP3) and encrypts the drive as usual, but as soon as I restart it does not start again.

Now, when I turn first I get:

    From SafeBoot v5.1
    Please wait...

for a second, then a dialog box appears in the middle of the screen:

    SafeBoot error
    Error: 0xe002001b
    No boot disk was found

He never does to SafeBoot screen logon is still in the start-up phase.

I think it's because this laptop has a SATA RAID build controller. We do not use the RAID configuration and that you have an original disc installed. The BIOS is the latest version 1.50 and the third system configuration screen shows the status of RAID array to 1RAID-0. If I put it in JBOD so I can't even go as far as the Windows installation.

So far I have tried to replace the Toshiba RAID with the Intel 82801FBM (ICH6M) driver SATA AHCI 7.0.0.1020 pilot. It works very well during the installation of Windows to step and F6 in Windows before encryption. I used even with the success of this pilot with a WinTech CD (updated the BartPE CD with SafeBoot plugin) and am able to see the encrypted drive. However, even with this driver, I get the same message once encrypted.

I'm sure that my SafeBoot administration and deployment is configured correctly because the same works set of installation very well on a certain number of models different for laptop, but not this one.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Hello

I m not an expert in SafeBoot software. It s I don't not known but I would like to say a few words about the RAID driver that you used.

I think that it s a bad driver. It looks like a SATA driver and not the RAID driver.

The Toshiba European page pilot provides a * 1.3.8.0 * v for the Toshiba RAID driver

    Please check this!

I would recommend also consulted with the Portege S100 user manual.
You will find details of the RAID.

JBOD means no RAID settings. By using this option, Windows cannot be installed on this drive, except using the Toshiba DVD/CD product recovery

    Good bye

  • Portege S100 - fan runs constantly

    Hello

I have been using my portege s100 for a year now and I must say that I'm not really happy.

The fan runs constantly, even after the update of the BIOS. Does not stop a second, everything I put in power management. It's very disappointing, because when I watch a DVD, or when I work nights, I would like to quiet little.

I checked the forums on the web, and Toshiba without finding any solution. Is anyone aware of any way to stop the standing fan (other then remove the fan...)?

    Thanks in advance,
    Andres

    Hello Andres

As you know, the cooling equipment is common problem on laptop computers and the market there is not many laptops that work absolutely silent. I put t even think such laptop no exist at all. Performance of your hardware is always better. Have excellent graphics and CPU performance, resulting in a lot of heat inside the laptop.

When you are working in the zone of silence, it's quite annoying when the fun of constantly cooling fan but there is not much to do. If you simply work like writing or to check something on the net, I recommend to use the other profile in energy saving or you can manually set the speed of the CPU processing to lower the level. I also recommend you to stop all unnecessary processes.

  • The Portege S100 graphics card problem?

I have a Portege S100-S113TD, and I was watching a youtube fullscreen video, when the screen went suddenly full of horizontal lines and the laptop became unresponsive - I had to physically hold the power button for about 10 seconds turn off.

Now it turns on but I only have a blank screen - it is the graphics card?

If so, can anyone suggest where I can buy a replacement graphics card?

The current one is a nVidia GeForce Go 6200TE 64M / 128 M 6600TE - I tried looking for one, but perhaps they are now obsolete.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

    > Now it turns on but I only have a blank screen - it is the graphics card?
    It seems that Yes

But you are able to test the laptop with an additional external monitor?
If possible, connect the external monitor and press Fn + F5 to check if something would be visible on 2nd screen.
If photos on 2nd screen would be visible, then the GPU is OK and only your internal display is faulty.

  • Cannot install Windows XP on Portege S100 series

    Hello!!
    Help, please!
    I have a Toshiba portege S100, I think that since 2005.
I try for a few weeks to install a windows xp.
This thing has become impossible for me. I tried hundreds of xp, but never work. He can't see the drive hard because I assume that the sata driver.
Please, can someone tell me where I can find a workly raid driver.
    Thank you!

    Hi mircea,.

It s not the driver SATA who is absent, but the RAID driver. OK it similar but just to be clear ;) s

You can download the RAID driver from Toshiba's official website:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

But to look for in * Archive * rather portable computer product category because it of older model so it s moved to Archive.

  • Portege S100: How to change the RAID in the BIOS

Change the BIOS setting for Portege S100 of JBOD to RAID0, I hit space on Exectute creation and enter the key of type string in the manual, and press "enter".
Settings and then return to existing arrangements and not the new RAID0 configuration setting that I selected.

I stayed in this part of the day / night looking at different positions, but I don't see anything wrong with the data entered.

This is the same as that recorded in this link: -.
[How to change the RAID configuration | http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB6901K60006R01.htm]

I'm now at the end of my home, I just wanted to install new HDD WD and new installation of XP Pro, is - it too much to ask?

Maybe it s a silly question but; have you installed the second HDD to the Ultra Slim Bay?
The RAID did feature is available when a second HDDD is installed in Ultra Slim Bay.

If the second HDD was inserted and then change the RAID in the Windows operating system.
There should be a Toshiba RAID Console.
You can use this console to create or manage a RAID array.

To start the utility, click Start, point to all programs, point to Toshiba, RIAD-tap and click RAID console.
It of possible to change the RAID1 (mirroring) of a configuration non-RAID (default).

But note; When RAID1 is set, you cannot change your settings unless you completely restore your preinstalled software.

  • Portege S100: Boot from USB?

Hi guys, hope someone can help me.

I recently got a Portege S100 with a DVD player that does not work.
I swapped the drive with a working one, but still no joy.

I was informed that it probably means that the problem is with the motherboard and is not really worth it on such an old model.

The person who gave me the laptop said the rest is fully functional.

However, my main problem is that the laptop is provided with no OS on the HARD drive.

I have the original Toshiba installation DVD, but of course I can't boot from it as the DVD player does not work. Is it possible to boot from an external USB drive on this model?

I looked at the boot order in the bios and I don't see an option for her, but I could be wrong.
I do not want to splash out on a new USB key if there is no hope of the Portege grateful it.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

Have you had a glance at the user manual? Maybe he will mention the USB/Boot features.

If you do not have the manual, you can download it from the site Web of Toshiba in the Drivers section.

  • Portege S100 - upgrade after cloning BSOD & HARD disk

    Hi all

I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have a laptop Portege S100 with a standard 80 GB drive. I want to upgrade to a 200 GB drive.
    Here's what I did.

I ran Acronis to save an image of the 80 GB HARD drive. All backed by an external USB disk and checked. I inverted the readers and restored the image on the 200 GB drive. All restored and verified.

I restart the PC with the new hard drive in place. "Windows XP" logo comes up, then aarrgh blue screen. Stop x7B.
Swapped the old disk, system boots fine.
Check in the BIOS, with the old hard drive in place that the RAID configuration is enabled by default

New swap disk, JBOD configuration is enabled in the BIOS. Could this be why it is not booting? If I want to activate the RAID configuration, it is ok, but I'm told that it will wipe the hard drive!

I have no qualms about wiping the new hard drive, but it will work? If I change the RAID configuration, then restore the image? The only reason why I have not done it so far is because it took some time to create the image, and then writing it back on the new disk and at that time there the owner of the laptop is needed it back. !

    Help appreciated!
    Thank you very much
    Alex

    Hello!

Can you post the BSOD detailed please?

I'm a little confused on RAID m parameters are you wrote. As I know the Portege S100 can handle only a single HARD disk.
In addition, you must use the same settings as with the old HDD RAID.

Maybe the SATA controller has a limitation of LBA 28 bit and can't handle a 200 GB HARD drive. In this case, the larger HARD drive should have 120 GB. Here you can learn more about the limitation:
    http://www.48bitlba.com

Last but not least, you can see the new HARD drive for errors. Maybe it s faulty. For this, you can use the Drive Fitness Test:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT

Sorry, but for the moment I put t have more ideas.

    Good bye

  • Extension of memory in a Portege S100

I recently bought a Portege S100, which came with 512 MB of RAM. Information on this model, says it can be increased up to 2048 MB using 2 slots of memory. Initially, I assumed 1024Mo in each. I looked at the electronic user guide, and it gives the impression that the original memory slot (512 MB) is non-removable, while under the "memory module cover" is an another single memory slot available for the purpose of expansion. This is the case, or if the existing memory of 512 MB can be located (everywhere where it is, it is not visible when memory cover removed) and be replaced by [saying] 1024 MB?

    Hello

Your device has no internal memory. There are two slots. According to the specs of the device comes with 512 MB of RAM, and you can extend it to 2 GB maximum. If you want to use 1 GB of RAM module compatible part except the number PA3411U-1M1G (DDR2 400/533 1 GB).

In the lower (in the middle) you can find the cover of the memory expansion. Remove it and swap the module.
    Good luck!

  • Portege S100 ATA HARD drive password issue

    Hey guys

I just wanted to ask a quick question. I've owned a Toshiba portege S100 computer laptop for about 18 months and he's had a life constantly on hard lol and some stains of coffee etc. Unfortuantly it launched the bucket the other week, so I got out and got a new toshiba laptop :)

My problem is that I can't access my hard drive? He had a password for HARD drive that I got and now I can't unlock it. I tried several tools to unlock the dam thing and wil it unlock NOOOO! Now, I'm an unhappy man, because all my work was there.

I have a tool that has several options to unlock HARD disk utility? It requires a login and a tank to fill? I was wondering if someone can help me?

    TY in advance

    Zarren

    Hello

Unfortunately, if the HARD drive password has been set and if you n t know the password you will not be able to unlock the HARD drive.

To my knowledge, the HARD drive password can be deleted from the BIOS and any other disk HARD unlock utility will not work.

In my opinion, there is nothing to my buddy :(

  • Upgrade memory Portege S100

    Hello

On the product page of toshiba for Toshiba Portege S100, it says that the maximum capacity of the laptop RAM is 2 GB. So I bought 2 GB of RAM for installation. However, there is only one slot available to increase the RAM (I think).

The RAM that I got is a 256 MB module, and since my laptop has 512 MB of RAM, there must be another crack also. (After installing one of the 1 GB modules, I now 1.25 GB of RAM)

How to install a 1 GB of RAM?
    Thank you

    Hello

usually, if a machine has 2 expansion slots, then the other must be under the keyboard. So, if you want to install the other, try to look under the keyboard.
But be careful: If you are not familiar with the disassembly of machines and if you have still warranty on machine to you, it would be better to give your machine a technician for the exchange of memory.

If you can't risk a voiding your warranty if you still have it and you won´t run the risk of damaging your portege.

    Welcome them
