Portege Z830 - update BIOS

Hello

I want to update my BIOS from version 1.4 to 1.6 (latest)

When I try to do it (directly with the updated BIOS or via the TOSHIBA Service Station) I got the following error message:
Error: Preparation of updated failed
You have not given permission to run the update.

I am connected with an administrator account and I already try to run it with "run as Administrator"

I'm not on the toshiba Windows installation because I have my own license of Windows 7 Professional (64 bit).

Can you help me?

Thank you very much

PS: Sorry for my English, it is not my native language

Question may be stupid, but why do you want to update the BIOS?
Have you noticed a few problems with your machine?

  • Portege R830 - updates BIOS and USB 3

    Hi all

    I have a Toshiba Portege R830, business management Windows 7 (SP1) 32-bit (for work).
I also start Linux Mint 14 64-bit, that I installed it on a portable USB HDD (non-professional).

I recently bought a 3 USB HARD drive, but when I connect it to the USB 3 port on my R830, it gives me only USB 2 speeds (25 MB/s).

I checked with some diagnostic utilities (usbdeview, etc.), who say that the drive is connected in USB 2.1 mode.

The drive reports itself as being 3 USB, cable is USB 3 (SuperSpeed) and the port that I use on the R830 is 3.

I feel the same way, if I boot on windows or linux.

I've updated all the drivers on the two operating systems, does not.

then I tried to update the BIOS, but I get the following error:
"An error occurred during the preparation of the updated environment.
You have not given the permission to execute the update".

For the record, it's the BIOS I'm leaving, & to.
BIOS version: Current Ver.2.80--> updated Ver.4.10
THIS Version: Current Ver.1.10--> update Ver.1.60

Does anyone know why I wouldn't get USB 3 speed (which, for my drive, are expected to be around 40-50 MB/s), or why all the diagnostics say USB 2?

Does anyone know how to overcome the problem of updating the BIOS?
(I tried in safe mode, disable AV, disabling NX)

    See you soon

    This USB driver is installed?

Please try to install it and check again speed USB.

Now, the power adapter is connected and works well, but the battery is on 4% of costs...
This is the exact reason, I'm updating the bios!

Does anyone know how I'm supposed to solve this problem?

    Hello

I m not very good if the update of the BIOS might help you what it s a battery problem
Have you noticed this problem on the first day of purchase?
I mean if this issue was not present the same using BIOS in the past, then it wouldn't be a matter of BIOS but material, possibly a battery

I think that the battery needs to be checked.

    Why?

    Hello

Common modules are installed on your Portege M100?
If this isn't the case, then you must install the common Modules in order to be able to run the BIOS update!
The common Modules is an essential component of Windows systems.
He will perform the other original programming from TOSHIBA to work properly.

  • Portege M400 - update Bios 3.8 installation (Vista)

    Hello.

I just installed a new hard drive and VISTA (lack the Toshiba HDD Recovery section - still don't know don't know how to do)

In any case, I managed to successfully install VISTA. (Trick was to install Raid divers in the installation process)

    UPDATE THE BIOS
    Current BIOS 1.6

I want to update my BIOS to version 3.80 (Latest)
I downloaded the BIOS 3.80 files BUT it does not load.

    1. I don't have a floppy drive :(

(2 I tried burinng a CD ISO) Bot I couldn't get it from the CD (I have a Toshiba CD Extenal Drive and do not know if it can boot from CD)

    3. I tried to run the launcher and install via Windows BUT received an error message 'NOT' supported on THIS COMPUTER

I think that the pitcher can only run in XP not vista.

Are there steps miss me... What I have to do an incremental update of BIOS and how can I install it without floppy or CD-Rom Bootable drive?

    > 1. I don't have a floppy drive
You n t need a floppy drive because the BIOS Toshiba focuses on the victory of BIOS and not traditional BIOS and this means that you must run the update of the BIOS while the OS is running.

    > . I tried to burn a CD from the ISO), but I couldn't get it from the CD (I only have a CD external Toshiba drive and do not know if it can boot from the CD)
As mentioned above this BIOS update may be run during execution OS! It s BIOS based on the victory!

    > 3. I tried to run the launcher and install via Windows BUT received an error message 'NOT' supported on THIS COMPUTER
You have selected an update of the BIOS that supports this laptop or you need to run this update by using the Windows OS pre-installed Toshiba.

    > What I have to do an incremental update of BIOS and how to install without floppy or CD-Rom Bootable drive?
    Not possible-> see point 1 and 2

  • Portege M800 - update BIOS stucks - Windows 7 32 bit

    Hello world!

    I have a problem.
I downloaded the update to the BIOS of Toshiba Hompage.

The update started successfully, but the point of "BIOS News Flash ' to 'treatment block 26 of the 33"the stucks updated!
I'm waiting for almost 2 hours, but nothing happens.
My screen freezes, I can't move the cursor, the clock shows the time even... then nothing happens...

    Is this normal?
I don't think, but it's my first update of the BIOS, so I'm not really familiar with it...

    Anyone have an idea?

    It would be great help!
    Thank you!

    Hello

It's different not a common BIOS update process
The update of the BIOS should not take much time.

In your case it is possible that something was wrong during the flashing process and module ROM was not properly flashed.
I think that you are in difficulty and in my opinion, only the ASP technician would be able to help you.

The BIOS ROM must be flashed again using a crisis procedure and this can be done by a technician of the ASP.

    Welcome them

    Hello

Please don t compare models of European specifications and Americans and don t make updated mix. If you have European cell phone please use only the stuff available on the download page of Toshiba Europe.

If you don t have problems with your device and system runs stable operations, don t do anything. That's just my opinion.

    Good day!

  • 1.60 BIOS does not recognize the USB bootable in Portege Z830

    Hello
I have a Portege Z830 with BIOS version 1.60. It runs an operating system, ubuntu, (without a windows OS, it is not possible to upgrade the BIOS). I have a USB bootable (debian, created by copying a .iso image using dd) which works on other computers, but not on this one. With the USB at the top of the boot priority, it is not recognized as a device start-up and the computer boots from the HARD drive. The boot is in legacy mode, no UEFI (there is no switch in the menu of the UEFI/legacy BIOS).

Pointers how to allow a booting from a USB key on this computer?

    Thank you and best regards,

    James

As you probably know, Toshiba does not support Linux so you can't upgrade the BIOS under Linux OS.
Also, it is not available to be installed from USB.

It runs as an application and must be run under Windows running.

  • How to control the fan on Portege Z830?

I have a Portege Z830 with BIOS version 1.7 and I am very upset by the noise of the fan.
I was wondering if it is possible to control the fan noise, so I started to experiment with a little utility called SpeedFan. I put in place so that the fan will not turn on until the temperature of the processor exceeds a defined number. But it does not; It seems that the BIOS is ignorant these parameters.

So my question is how can I set the fan to work my way?

There are not many options to control the fan.

The fan is controlled by the BIOS. The fan table that is stored in the BIOS contains information how a cooling module must operate.

As mentioned by Liam, you can change the settings of power plant of Win 7 more battery as a way to minimize the performance of fans
    This should help a little...

In other http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=65068 thread, I found a neat trick of the last user... He replaced Z830 fan with the fan of Z930 origin...
    It worked.

  • Portege Z830 - BIOS update fails

Just got my Portege Z830 am folloing the Toshiba update and recommendations. The update of the Bios v1.7 fails with a message 'unsupported computer "...

    Any ideas? THX, urhs

I can't say anything on this issue but if your laptop works well don t change anything.
Out of curiosity but don't use you original pre-installed BONES that you got with your Portege?

  • Portege Z830 - Bios password change/remove

When I started my new Portege Z830, it gave me the opportunity during the entire upward, to put a bios password.

I did, but I am now regret, as I have to present two passwords, bios and windows, can start to do something. As I need the BIOS one, how in the system to edit or delete, now that I don't have access to all of the screens?

    Thank you

You can delete it in the BIOS options directly or using Toshiba tool in Windows supervisor password utility.

I recommend to proceed to a complete stop and restart after laptop enter the BIOS settings and delete here.

  • Portege Z830 - behavior undesirable fan with BIOS 1.7

I am very upset by the noise of the fan on my z830-11F. The update of the BIOS 1.6 controlled better fan I think, the activity of the fan has been reduced. But recently I have updated BIOS 1.7 and now the fan starts to spin with its horrible noise, even when the computer is idle.

    a. I'm doing something wrong or is this normal behavior?
    b. I want to return to BIOS 1.6. Is this possible? I can't find the BIOS on toshiba web page.
    c. do you recommend going back to 1.6?
