POS & DataDomain

Hello

I have configured the POS server to backup directly DataDomain,

In a State of the server crash VDP himself, how to restore previously backed up to the DataDomainvirtual computers?

I did a restore like this about 5 times.

The most important thing you need to do is to configure the control points to be store on the DataDomain. Him basically means the "integrity checks" (instant auto VDP) is stored on the data domain.

Download the following document: https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-60/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vmware-data-protection-administration-guide-60.pdf

On page 94, it shows you how to restore a new POS device from a point of control stored on the data domain.  The process seems daunting, but its pretty simple if you follow the steps carefully. Once done, you will have a POS which is restored to its last working state.

There are a few things you should keep in mind that the documentation does not mention or goes into details:

1. When you create a new POS device, it must be the same size as that of the old. The document said "the same size or larger.  This is false. It must be the same size. Exactly. So if your current camera is 1 TB, then the new one you use of restoration or replacement must be 1 TB. Not more or less.

2. make sure that the name and the IP address the new VDP is the same as well.

3. once the new VDP is deployed immediately go to the command line (console) and start at step 1 on page 94. No need to go to the web console of vCenter.

4 copy the control points to the VDP can take very long. Mine took 4 hours.

5. When you get to the step to select a control point to restore remember the date of the restore. You will see a combination of checkpoints, copied from the Data Domain and control points that have been created, while the system has increased since the new POS and running.  If you want to choose a control point that was created before the creation of your new POS device.

I hope this helps.
