PowerEdge RAID5 Expansion

Dear all,

We Server hava a R720xd with a RAID5 array (PERC H710p RAID). I have hot has added a new HDD and expanded the RAID5 array.

It's been two days since the expansion ended, but the OS was not to recognize the new size of the disk yet, so I can't resize the partition to this topic.

What did I miss? Is it just need a restart?

OS: Windows Server 2012 R2

Thank you.

If it does not show the new size with space not partitioned at the end of the disc, then you will need to restart.

First of all try to click on disk management and analyze the disks.

What you are wishing to perform is targeted for online capacity Expansion (OCE) which is not supported by the controller RAID H200 shouldn't we support re-taggable picture to allow you to upgrade to 2 TB on the same virtual disk (VD) discs. Make sure you have backup of your data. The only option available to you is to remove the existing VD and create another with 2 TB drives. Re-install the operating system and restore your data.

  • Add space to ESX 3.0.1 after expansion RAID5

    Dear friends,

I did a RAID5 expansion via raid Manager IBM on a machine of Vmware esx 3.0.1 and adds a new record of 143Gb RAID5.

After that, I used esxcfg-rescan, esxcfg-vmhbadevs and fdisk to create a new partition in the empty space.

Now my fdisk-l looks like this (I also have a/dev/sda, but it's not important):

    Disk/dev/sdb: 586,7 GB, 586764255232 bytes

    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 71336 cylinders

    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device boot start end blocks Id system

    / dev/sdb1 * 1 53502 429754783 + fb unknown

    FB/dev/sdb2 53503 71336 143251605 unknown

Now, the/dev/sdb1 is what I see as a Storage1 Vmclient and where I put all my vm.

I need to create a Storage2 using/dev/sdb2 and see in Vmclient as Storage2 to store the new virtual machine.

Is this possible? How do I do that?

    Kind regards

    Claudio.

You can try to measure in the data store.

But (if I remember correctly) is not possible to from the VI client.

If datastore / measure does not work, use the command vmkfstools command line.

  • Expanding RAID5 on PowerEdge R720

Hi all, I have a R720 Poweredge server configured with 2 virtual disks, one for the operating system (RAID 1) and one for the data (RAID5 with 3 drives 1 TB each). I plan on expansion of raid5 with another disc.

The drive has been added and is currently recognized by the OMSA as loan. From what I understand now, I need only to use the task some "reconfigure" on the VFD of the data.

I have only a few doubts:
1 - is this 'reconfigure' task is to clear all data?
2 - can be performend online or I need to bring down the system? Is the reboot needed?

    Thanks for your help

    Paolo

    Hello.

    gnegnegne
I have only a few doubts:
1 - is this 'reconfigure' task is to clear all data?

Reconfiguration of a table does not erase existing data; It influences only the performance disk until the reconfiguration operation.

    gnegnegne
2 - can be performed online or I need to bring down the system? Is the reboot needed?

Of reconfiguration is done only online and even once the operation is completed, no reboot is necessary.

Let me know if you have other questions about your RAID array.

  • PowerEdge R510 - expand RAID5 with additional disks

    Hello

I have an ESX5 VMWare hypervisor running of PE R510 (embedded) on SDs in the mirror.  We currently have SAS 5 x 146 GB drives in a RAID5 configuration that provides approximately 1.6 gross TB of storage for the VMFS data store.

I'm trying to understand whether it is possible to add additional disks to this configuration RAID5, so expand the virtual disk, without the need to destroy/loose data in place?  If so, what steps would be to do this?

    Thank you

    Chris

Yes, it's called Online Capacity Expansion.  You can reconfigure your 5 RAID 5 disks to include more records by adding them to the table.  It is non-destructive and can be done online.  You can use the service reconfigures the software OpenManage for do this, either by adding the VIB ESX or boot from a disk Live OMSA.

Once you have added the records in the table, you need to resize partitions in ESX.  Also, I think that 5 + uses default TPG, but keep in mind that if it is not the case, then your picture will be limited by ESX 2 TB of usable space.  This would likely only (potentially) be a problem if you have gone to some other version 5.x.

  • Dell powerEdge t420, server windows 2008 R2, RAID5, partitioning problem

    Hello

    [Dell powerEdge t420, windows 2008 R2, RAID5 Server]

I have attached the picture of disk management.

    There are

1 extended partition in which it is

1 NTFS logical volume that completely fill the extended partition.

But there is a small green free space 0 MB.

    Is this normal?

Thanks for the info. I have install.

    I reinstalled the operating system

and in OS partitioning step installation

    There were:

a 1 Mb extended partition, then the logical partition.

I deleted all and create 2 primary partition (1 for the Os) and 1 for DATA.

    I solved it.

    But I don't know if

is the best performing primary or logical partition.

  • PowerEdge T110 II/PERC H200 drive Expansion Question

We have a server PowerEdge T110-11 with two 600 GB 15K SCSI disks in a RAID 1 configuration via a PERC H200 controller.  This server is used in a production environment.  We want to add an extra internal drive on the server, but the readers (or reader) not be used for archival purposes.  Check-in will be only done periodically at defined intervals.  The plan of production a need for speed and redundancy of the RAID/SCSI setting.  The drive to check-in will not.  I don't know what is supported by the PERC H200 beyond two units SCSI that we have.  How would you recommend that we do that?  Should we buy two SATA drives and use them in a RAID 1 configuration as we have for SCSI drives?  All readers are saved on a Dell RD1000 disk cartridge system, in a way.  I don't know if we need RAID for this disk to archive, because it will be backed up regularly.  Others grow here to use an external USB drive for archiving, due to their very low cost.

Thanks for your suggestions, you can offer.

    Hello.

Support-T110 II up to 6 hard drives. It wouldn't hurt to implement these drives in RAID 1 or RAID 5 (for more than 2 disks) configuration just in case of failure before the archive is saved. If your archive is not so important, you can set the drives in RAID 0.

  • Type of BIOS to UEFI in PowerEdge T20

    Hello community.

I have a question about the type of BIOS in T20 PowerEdge server.

I want to install a PCIe SSD and boot Windows from it, but I have some info about it only UEFI BIOS can support this feature. The question is; What type of BIOS have the server PowerEdge T20?.

The PCIe SSD intending to use is a Kingston Hyper predator 460 GB on the PCIe 16 x 2.0 x 4 expansion slot.

In addition, can I connect a 2.5 SSD "without optional card controller?

    Thank you.

What type of BIOS have the server PowerEdge T20?

You can set the mode BIOS or UEFI.

PCIe SSD are not validated on the T20. You may be able to run, but he would not have cared. You cannot select the PCIe SSD as a boot device.

The system supports SATA SSD in standard slots 4. You can read more in the T20 Manual:

  • Need help of the correct SAS 2.5 upgrade option "HDD for PowerEdge T620

I want to add the disk to an existing Dell PowerEdge T620 (service tag GTPKDV1) storage. The vehicle currently has 7 300 GB SAS 2.5 "hot, two virtual drives (300 GB RAID1) and RAID5 1116 GB replaceable drives. There are 16 bays.

Browsing the Dell store for server upgrade parts I am surprised not to see that two form factors for of 2.5 "10K rpm SAS drives. only 300 or 900 GB. Nothing to do with higher speeds or more capacity! And I'm not even sure, one of the search results is really 2.5 "because the Web site product description does not indicate the size at all.

    300 GB of the manufacturer: 15NM6 | Dell reference: 342-2016 (accessories.dell.com/.../productdetail.aspx

900 GB of the manufacturer: TPMWF | Dell reference: 342-4143 (http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Hard_Drives_Storage/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=bsd&cs=cabsdt1&sku=342-4143&mfgpid=225343)

The 900 GB is described as a hybrid drive. What is a drive hybrid? Isn't SAS, SAS?

There are several results that seem to be variations on the 300 GB 10 K 2.5 "disk SAS6. They are all the same product? Why the different reference numbers?

The H710p wouldn't even try to use the 300 to rebuild the 1.8 TB drive failure, as the reader will not be perceived as a Hot Spare for this virtual disk. A 300 GB global Hot Spare would be able to rebuild any 300 GB or more small disc. If the Global Hot Spare is a 1.8 to it should rebuild one of these virtual drives.

  • (Redirected) USB 3.0 expansion card

Can anyone provide me with information on how to install a USB 3.0 on my Dell poweredge t300 Server expansion card?

After talking with dell, they recommended using a visiontek USB 3.0 pci - e card. But after opening the server, I discovered there is no power supply to connect the card. The card came with a female molex to sata adapter cable male. The only open power cable plug / on the server is a female connector, 4 slots, which seems like it would be for a floppy drive.

Anyone know if this is possible or is there a workaround for this if I can install this or any other USB 3.0 card in my machine?

  • Impossible to create a RAID5 with Advanced Wizard

I have an MD1000 attached to a Poweredge 2900 (Windows 2003 Std R2 SP2) via a PERC 6/e. I am trying to create a table of 8 drives RAID5 physical usng OpenManage advanced drive the virtual assistant. I am able to execue the first of two steps, selecting the RAID level, and then all 8 drvies. When I get to the third stage, where I should be able to enter a table name, size, etc..., I rather just get a white screen.

I tried to create other levels of table as (6, 10, 60) using the Advanced Wizard and the same thing happens. When I use the wizard Express, there is no problem, but of course I can't create a disc of 8 RAID5 with the express.

Anyone know why this is happening? The contoller firmware is 6.3.0 - 0001. All the disks are SAS 146 GB 15 K Seagate Cheetah 10.

    Thanks in advance.

I suggest trying a different browser or play with the security settings in your current browser. The blank page looks that the browser does not display, which can lead to a different browser.

If you do not want to change the default browser (to allow the server administrator icon go directly to the other browser), just go to https://servername:1311.
