PowerPC is no longer supported

Cannot open Adobe After Effects 7.0 because PowerPC is no longer supported. What is the fix here to get the sw to work again?

You posted in the Photoshop forum.

The After Effects forum is here: After Effects

AE7 is 8-9 years.

If you have an older mac that can still run OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 you can run power PC via Rosetta applications.

Apple has abandoned Rosetta with 10.7 and all newer versions.

There is no solution.

You can:

  • Get a subscription to EI CC2015 for $20 / month, but if you stop paying, the software stops working.
  • Get an old mac that can run the snow leopard and use Rosetta to run Power PC applications. I do not believe new Mac will allow you to downgrade the OS so far backward.
  • Buy a Power PC mac - it would be really old and slow. Not a good idea

  • Cannot open the application "Mail" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported

I work on a MacBook Pro mid 2012

    Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz

    OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

The Mail app suddenly quit and when I tried to resume, I got this message

"Cannot open the application"Mail"because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

This also happens with the "Maps" app

All Mac software are up to date, but "Mail" has been working fine since my last update that was awhile ago.

I am confused to say the least. Suggestions? Thank you!

If you do a Get Info (command - I) on Mail and Maps applications, what version numbers do you see?

    Try a reboot.

Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolate a problem by using a different user account

If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

  • PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

I am a teacher and all my tests are done on 5.2 view review program by Prentice Hall. My school bought in 2014. When I try to run it in my macbook 2016 pro I get this message, "unable to open 'The ExamView Player installer' application because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported." I really don't want to have to redo all my tests.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! My students thank you too!

Apple has stopped supporting these types of applications when they moved to the Lion that was 6 years ago.

OS x: the Application icon has a prohibitive sign or "PowerPC applications are no longer supported" appears - Apple Support

    See for some background information

You will need to contact Prentice Hall to find a version that runs on your current OS X.

A site lists a different version of a product called Examview compatible with 'Mac OS versions 10.9, 10.10 and 10.11' but I don't know if this is the product you are referring to.

PowerPC applications have not been supported for many years now since, OS X 10.7.x, you need to look for an alternative to this app or contact the developers of Spotify to see if they have a version for El Capitan 10.11.x

The reason for this is LicenseRecovery.app is a PPC application and only works on OS x 10.6.8 with of Rosetta PPC emulator.

This is why you must open the Terminal and use the license Recovery.py, a python script.

There is a screenshot guide in the link formatting error 150:30 opening Photoshop cs4 on Macbook Pro , from 11 stations. Special attention, or it won't work.

The Bank site requires Java and they say that you no longer support it. Now, I have to use IE which I really dislike.

How about you to reconsider your decision in the light of the inconvenience it has caused to your users?

  • I understand that you no longer support Adobe Flash player, you have another plugin for my games?

If you think that Adobe Flash player is not a suitable plugin, you have a suggestion for an alternative? I've been using Google Chrome, but I told myself that they will not prohibit Adobe as well. I play 'King' of games such as Candy Crush, as well as others, and I will not renounce my games. I tried looking for an alternative a few months ago because Adobe crashes every day, but I went to the wrong site and downloaded a virus instead. Any suggestion that you can give me would be great. Thank you for your time.

Everything you've read that Mozilla has declared no longer supports the Adobe Flash Player is incorrect. Mozilla supports still Flash but currently has all previous versions on a deadlock due to critical vulnerabilities. https://addons.Mozilla.org/Firefox/blocked/

Mozilla puts only versions of Plugins (and Extensions that are malicious software) which are serious security (criticism), as well as reasons of stability. Unfortunately just about every version of Flash player is on red list since December because feats experienced Sailor and in current versions of time.

Current versions of the plugin base of Flash player for Windows and Mac OS x are not listed but Linux version is due to Adobe not having an update still which is unusual. https://www.Adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

As you can see Adobe has been busy trying to solve the exploits in their Flash Player at the last moment. https://helpx.Adobe.com/security.html#flashplayer

Regarding the Flash alternatives that may or may not work or partially according to the operating system and the site used are Unity Web Player, GNU Gnash and Lightspark.

  • I had HP Smart printing program on my homepage of Mozilla, but you seem to no longer support it. Why not? I am very disappointed.

When I downloaded the latest version of firefox, I was informed that the program is no longer supported, and there is apparently no recourse. He was always very useful for printing of web pages.

Hello dskahler, you will need to contact hp website to see if there is an update available for this extension, or contact their support. Since this is still the task of the developer of the extension to keep it updated or make the necessary adjustments to make it work in new versions of the browser...

  • my safari browser is no longer supported on my macbookpro5, 2

I have a macbookpro 5.5 and have long been messaged my safari browser is no longer supported. is it possible to find an update for my mac?

Safari updates are related to the OSX levels. 10.6.8 cannot run the latest version of Safari 9. Your options are:

    (1) update of Mac OS on your computer. Your will support the current version of El Capitan, if you have at least 4 GB of RAM. However, most programs Alumni such as AppleWorks and any version of MS Office: older than Office 2008 Mac will stop working as soon as you leave OS 10.6

    (2) If you do not want to upgrade your operating system, switch browsers. FireFox is good for now, but there are messages that it will soon work on any Mac OS more than 10.9 Mavericks.

I tried Seamonkey which seems to keep OS 10.6 supports and it looks and feels like FireFox. Very nice.

Do not receive a download using a site or the other browser. Get that from their respective developers:

    FireFox: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/products/

    SeaMonkey: http://www.seamonkey-project.org/
