Previously used flash drive should now be formatted!

I have inserted a used flash player previously in my PC and tells me that the disc needs to be formatted and all data will be lost.  Help!

Hi FlyersStanley,

Looks like it might be a problem with the flash player.  Have you checked on the Web site of the manufacturer for any additional information about the message you received?

Thank you! Debra

  • How to save a project created in Windows movie maker on a flash drive in. MSWWW format instead of. WMV format?

If I understand well a previous answer, reinporting a project as mswmm allows rediting if the files are still on the computer.  Also, I am inclined to believe that the files remain available in the pane movie maker collections.  Am I wrong?

    > How to save a project created in Windows movie maker

    ===========================================
When you save the project file... go to... File / save project as...
Give the file a name (Summer Vacation.mswmm) and choose
    your save location.

All the files (Photos, video clips, Audio clips) source should
appear on the USB key and if you have the intention of re - edit the
project on another computer... it should have the same
version of Movie Maker. Sometimes a later version of the film
Machine to will open the files but sometimes won't.
    ===========================================
    > If I understand an earlier answer, reinporting a project
    > mswmm format allows rediting if the files are still on the
    > computer.
    ===========================================
This is correct. MSWMM is a Movie Maker project file which is
is useful for a re-release in Movie Maker. And... the source files
(Photos, video clips, Audio clips) should be available in the
    original locations...
    ===========================================
    > Also, I am inclined to believe that the files remain available in the
    > movie maker collections pane.  Am I wrong?
    ===========================================
When a. MSWMM file project opens the thumbnails...
remain available in the Collections of Movie Maker component as
as long as the Source, the files are available in the places that they
    were imported initially from.

If the source files have been moved, renamed, deleted or are
unavailable, the thumbnails in the component Collections
Movie Maker displays red Xs and the project cannot be
    edited.

If the source files are still available... it is possible that you may
Right-click the red Xs and navigate to the current location of the
the source files and restore the path.

  • CD - RW formatted "like flash drive" is now read-only?

I swear it never happened to me before.

He asked if I wanted to format "as a flash drive" or "for CD or DVD drive" and I chose "flash player" because I want to write for her, etc.
After a long process of formatting (very long), the player is now read-ONLY.  I can not even put a single file I have on it (or even in the folder "files to be burned to CD"?) who started the whole process.
It is a CD - RW disc.  (at least it was first)
In the past, I've just dragged & dropped and voila!
    What should I do?
    Many thanks in advance,
    -Paula in Texas

Never mind.  He worked at the second attempt.

I swear to you that I did exactly the same thing the second time, except with the read more & audit helps, and it seemed that I had the same result.

  • Dane-elec 4GB USB flash drive is asking to format. I have the file there that I can't access.

I transferred files from my Tablet Toshiba thrive on a flash drive USB of Dane-Elec 4 GB. It appeared to work for a few weeks, but now it does not work on the tablet or on my laptop (HP dv7). On the laptop, it says that it needs to be formatted. This habit to delete my files?  On the Tablet, it cannot be mounted.  I need these files. What can I do?

    Hello

Formatting the drive Flash will clear all data located on it.

As a work around, I suggest you to copy the files from the flash drive to another computer where it works fine and then format the flash drive and check.

You can also check your hard drive to find errors in windows Vista.

    ???

If XP was preinstalled on the computer when it was new it must have a recovery partition to reinstall XP - see above (or check with HP/Compaq) for the use of the recovery partition. Even if you bought it used the computer might still have a recovery partition.

You can also use an imaging program free on hard drive to store XP on a USB - both below allow you to make a boot disk to start the recovery, and the two programs allow you to split the backup on several DVD.

    Hello Moulie18,

Thank you for your message.  Let's try your pen drive from the formatting command line.  The steps are below:
First of all, we will find the drive letter associated with your USB:
Click on 'Start' > click 'My Computer' > take note of your Pen Drives drive letter, you'll need next steps
Click "Start" > click "Run" > type cmd in the text field and press "Enter."
In the command prompt, type format drive letter: , then press "Enter".
    * Example: format e: enter
Don't forget that the formatting of your USB key will remove all information currently on your disk.  If this information is important, you need to save before formatting.

  • Use of the flash drive on a X 200

I just got my new X 200 and I did not plant still recovery disks. I guess that thay have to go on CD/DVD players due to the boot record having to read from the first disc.

I would like to use a flash drive to 32 GB for a full system image backup, followed by the incremental backups.  Is this possible?

I waited a long time for an answer... nothing coming, so I went to another forum where such issues of users actually get responses.

    For those interested...

The enthusiastic response of the users who have used flash drives for storing important data, should absolutely NOT use flash for this purpose.  The recommendation was to use CD/DVD only.

Users tell me that's not for technical reasons that I shouldn't put backups on flash drives. This is because flash drives are notoriously little reliable. Some brands have done well and then badly in the months following incandescent customers.

Many users now have USB hard drives and they recommend this approach to those of us who want immediate access to the operating system and business or personal data if a catastrophic failure occurs.  I'm opting for this approach with a factory version DVD copy.

It seems that flash drives are better for personal data which can be reincorporated easily or for the convenience of mobility data.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello

I have a toshiba Satellite L650/0ed, it's good if I use more than one drive 8 GB flash for "ready boost" - what is the maximum number of using flash-drives can devote to the "ready-boost.

In addition, if I use a 16 gb flash drive, will this affect more memory "ready boost".

    Hi mate

Please check this Microsoft page that describes the ReadyBosst
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/ReadyBoost

There, you can find this statement:
+ ReadyBoost works with storage devices more flash. In Windows 7, it can handle more memory and even multiple devices * eight *, for a maximum of 256 GB of additional memory. +

I hope this can be useful!

I used services and stop readyboost and rebooted and tried to delete the file with it stopped

  • Why is my 64 GB USB Flash Drive "not a backup location valid?

I tried to turn it to a previous question, but reading of the Code of conduct for this forum, I discovered that it was inappropriate to do that.  My apologies for this.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit SP1, installed using Toshiba recovery disks (I have a new Toshiba laptop, when I got the system I opted to not have a recovery partition).  I just cleaned all the bloatware off Windows, ran Windows Update until there was no more updates for (achieved in this way SP1), and now I have a fresh and clean windows installation, which has never even been to a single Web site.  Now, I am trying to create a system image on a 64 GB flash drive (I won't even finish by using half of it, as my SSD has only about 19 GB used, and which includes the hibernation file (I disabled the pagefile, because paging files are unkind to SSDs))

Before, I asked if it was possible to manually create a System Image of Windows 7 on a USB Flash drive (big), and I got two answers 'Yes' to two stars of the community. (See my question here)  It is also stated that it is possible on windows.microsoft.com, here.  Note that when windows.microsoft.com stipulates "the system image must be saved on a hard drive, reference is made to automatic creating system images.  If you keep reading, you'll see that the page says that if you want to manually create a a system image, this image of the system may be recorded on optical discs, a USB Flash drive or a hard drive.  If it is possible, then why will I have the following problem?

64 GB USB Flash Drive inserted--> closed Autoplay dialogue--> Opened "My Computer"--> Right-clicked drive E (my flash drive) and the selected format--> Unchecked 'Quick Format'--> size of the NTFS system chosen and 4096 bytes of cluster--> Clicked 'Format' and acknowledged that all the data will be deleted--> waited a while for the form to fill out, then clicked OK--> closed 'My Computer'--> ejected my flash player by clicking on 'remove hardware safely'--> physically unplugged flash drive--> Grabbed a diet coke with ice--> inserted 64 GB USB Flash drive--> AutoPlay dialog closed--> opens the start--> Clicked "All programs" Menu--> clicked maintenance--> click Backup and Restore Center--> clicked on create System Image--> (scans of program for storage devices)--> my flash drive appears under "on a hard drive" and the words 'the drive is not a valid backup location' appear under my FlashDrive being listed.  For reference, "on one or more DVDs" appears just below the text saying "the drive is not a valid backup location."

My understanding is that what I just tried to do is create an image of the system on an NTFS partition formatted (with a 4 KB cluster size) 64 GB USB Flash Drive.  But it is not letting me!  I understand that I can't plan the creation of automatic system for USB Flash drives, but according to windows.microsoft.com image and two stars of the community, it is indeed possible to "manually" create a system image on a large USB Flash drive, which I think is what I just tried to do.  If there is another way to create a system image, even more 'manually' than what I do (I'm certainly not afraid of the command line, if I need to use it I'm more than happy to do so), please let me know.

I have a low-quaility SATA 3.0 Gbit/s notebook HDD in an enclosure USB powered bus at low prices, and I was able to create a system on that image.  However, I expect this device to fail shortly.  I also managed to create a system image on a DVD-r virgins.  I did, however, just spend $85 on a 64 GB USB Flash Drive specifically to store an image of the system, which I expect to use to back up Windows 7 with World of Warcraft installed (total size of drive C will be approximately 50 GB; I have not yet downloaded WoW; "I want to overcome this first).

Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thank you!

1st edit: adding links so people would not need to copy and paste to their address bar and said the last sentence of the last paragraph.

I suggest avoid you the Windows backup program and you get a good commercial backup program. This forum is frought with for a windows problem reports. I know that I was very impressed when I tried it. Two me are familiar with and like Norton Ghost (which I use for 7 years without the 1st problem) and Memeo, which has 30 day free trial and you can buy it for $29.99 - you can download it from http://memeo.com. You can get Ghost for almost nothing (like me), if you look at the sales.

CNET has a lot of reviews of backup program to

    http://download.CNET.com/Windows/backup-software/?tag=contentBody;sideBar.

Some of them are free (the last time I checked there are 315), some have free trials (more), and some are buying only (more than 200).

    Good luck.

  • I lost memory to the usb flash drive space, help me please.

I formatted 2 gb usb flash drive, and now he has 247 MB of available space.
in computer SCIENCE, I chose flash drive (E), then right-click on it and choose FORMAT.

    Hello

    1. What is the number of brand and model of the flash player?

I suggest you plug the flash drive on another computer running on Windows 7 and check if the problem persists.

You can try to format the drive falash using MS DOS and cehck if that helps.

    (a) click on the start menu

    (b) prompt to type in the start search bar (run as administrator command prompt)

    (c) type "format [drive letter]:" at the command prompt, replace "[drive letter]" by the letter of the drive you want to format.

    (d) then press the Enter"" key. Note that the drive letter must be followed by a colon - for example: "format c:".

    (e) support on 'Y' If you are prompted to confirm if you want to erase everything on the hard drive. Confirm that you want to continue. MS-DOS will start to reformat your hard disk and all data

    on the disc is erased.

If the problem occurs on another computer as well, then the issue may be with the flash drive corrupted, in this case, you can get in touch with the manufacturer for assistance.

  • Flash drive became a FAT 32 file system

I have a 2.0 PNY 8 GB flash drive which was working fine with Windows 7. Now he says all of a sudden when I go to start, click computer and watch devices that my removable device is FAT 32. When I click it, it says that the folder is empty. How did become FAT 32? If I lost all my files or is there a way it can all be retrieved again? Thank you! It was not a FAT 32 file when I bought and installed this flash drive. It just happened all of a sudden. I don't know if there is a change in my computer or if something happened to my flash drive. I only used the disc on my computer.

All flash drives, I know, are formatted FAT when they are made. Unless you changed to NTFS, it was FAT.

Have you tried the drive on another computer?

UPDATE: I've been successful this morning to create a bootable USB key. Now, I know it's a stupid stupid question, but I still have more of 40GBs space on this flash drive. Now, can I use this as my weekly data backup? Or is it just stupid? I'm a newb as everyone can see.

I appreciate the answers ive got so far on the first?

    Hello

    Did you change your computer?

    Method 1:

I suggest you to see link and check.

    Check a drive for errors

  • How to recover a file on a flash drive that windows removed

Windows said there was a problem with my removable drive (flash drive) and asked to scan the disk and fix it... other messages that I read says you should do.  I did, but now something very important on the flash drive is gone. I always use the safely remove hardware and eject media option before removing the flash drive.  How can I retrieve this file?

You can't, it's gone.  You will need to get your most recent backup copy.  Flash drives have an average duration of 4 years direct, but many die younger (30% die during the first 2 years). And don't forget, some die faster.  Take this into account when you use flash drives and always keep a copy of your files in a backup or place online like OneDrive.
