• If I do a full reformat on my Vista laptop, is what will solve the problem - "Windows cannot check for updates" error code 800FFFF? Frustrated!

  I have a laptop that I use mainly for cloud computing and travel.  I have much stored on the hard drive itself and I spent hours trying to solve the problem regarding
  
  Windows can't check for updates, error code 800FFFF.

  I tried some of the recommendations varied on this site, but so far without success.

  If I just wipe my computer, and then start reinstalling everything from below upwards, will that solve the problem?  I know it sounds drastic, but I'm willing to do, and hopefully learn something in the process.

  I'm not computer specific read and write... so it would take me hours, wading through all the different corrections before as I find one that works.  That's why I'm considering a reformat.

  I checked for malware and repeatedly tried to system update readiness tool.

  Any thoughts?

• I'm trying to update Firefox by clicking 'Help' but I cannot select "Check for Updates". Help!

  First of all, I would like to state that I have hardly any technical knowledge. So forgive me if this seems like a silly question to professionals. Here are the details about this problem according to the best of my limited knowledge:

  I am currently using Mozilla Firefox 3.6.18; previously, 3.6.13. It was upgrade 3.6.9 3.6.13 after I click on Check for Updates... and he told me that this would be done when I reboot my system.   You can manually reset the software update feature by closing Firefox and remove the file "updates" (which seems you have done) and the two files "active - update.xml" and "updates.xml" - these are in the installation (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox) directory or in the profile folder (C:\Documents and Settings\nom_utilisateur\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\something.default).

  My laptop is running HPSA worm 7.4.45.4. 'Check for updates now' tab updates from HP is greyed out. In addition, the HPSA informs me that "the last check for HP updates: never" even if the regular time for the update check has come and gone.

  Hi, I use Win Vista Ultimate 32-bit sp1.  I have KIS2009, A Squared Anti Malware, MalwareBytes Anti Malware installed.  All showing my system is clean.  I ran MSRT analysis to light, and he pointed out that my system is clean also.

  I tried to install Win Vista sp2 but unfortunately, I installed the Russian language (don't know why I, I was annoyed a day) but the sp2 download in five languages and Russian is not one of them :(

  Thanks for your help so far.  I hope you don't mind but today how that spending (hard day @ work) I think I'll leave the installation of repair until tomorrow.  More that likely the disc would have burst in the player, causing a sort of spike power was so my motherboard.  So I think I'll just relax tonight and I hope tomorrow is a day better.  Hope you have a good.

• "Windows cannot check for updates" error Code 80080005.

  I have Vista Home Premium, Dell Dimension XPS 410.

  When Windows tries to automatically check the update of Windows, I get a message saying, ' Windows cannot check for updates.

  Error code 80080005.

  Can any ideas on how I fix? I've had this problem for over 3 months now and cannot find information on Microsoft Support Website.

  Usually the "Windows is unable to Check For Updates" error message produced always of the blocker window update connection attempt.

  1. first of all, please check that there is no any third-party firewall preventing Windows Update to communicate with "update.microsoft.com.

  2. check if Windows Firewall is blocking the update of Windows.

• Windows can't check for updates 80244019 error code.

  I have a problem, the system is vista home basic. Windows can't check for updates 80244019 error code. I have read many of the forms and ran from bugs that I found from microsoft. Further investigation indicates the RPC and DCOM service Launcher are grayed out and cannot be started or stoped.   Registry settings look good for the RPC service.  The DCOM service depends on RPC service.  In the GUI at the same time say they are started but from the comand prompt, I run the command net start and neither one is registered as running.  Any help would be appreciated.
