  • Monitor problems after installing SP1

    After installing SP1, on reboot, the screen works nto correctly.... I see the cursor and screensaver.  .. everything else is black

    WTH?

    Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
  • Problems installing Windows 7 64-bit SP1: "The Installation was not successful" DS_S_SUCCESS (0x0)
    I'm unable to install the Windows 7 SP1 on my laptop.  I am running Win 7 64 bit and tried to install the 64-bit SP1 via the feature updates automatic first, then with the SP1 download manually (Windows6. 1 - KB976932 - X 64 .exe).   The progresses to install SP1 to the point where it shuts down the system and it is charging but when I log in I get the dialog Setup SP1 reporting "the Installation was not successful".  By clicking on the link error display shows DS_S_SUCCESS (0x0).
    (I followed the steps of troubleshooting 1) by using the Troubleshoot Utility "Difficulty of problems with Windows Update" and 2) installed tool Rediness of updating system, but the installation of SP1 still fails with the same error.
    I have successfully applied the SP1 on a different system.  No idea why I have problems with my laptop.
    Any ideas?
    C thx.
    Have you checked your hard drive to find errors? Another obscure, you might try is to disable User Account Control temporarily.
    Its possible, you need to perform an update of the BIOS if one is available for your ThinkPad T60p. Also, check the updated chipset drivers.
    Furthermore, disconnect any non-essential device, you may have attached to the system.
    Its possible the SP1 download may be corrupted, I would like to download another copy and try again.
    I have error code 8024200d when you try to update and install SP1 for Vista. I'm currently running Vista Ultimate. Any help would be appreciated.
    Update Manager did not install the update because it must be downloaded again.
    Suggest you download and Save the complete stand-alone package of Vista SP1.
    Links to the standalone versions are on this page because you validate that the edition of Vista is x 86 (32-bit) or x 64 (64-bit). You can see the architecture of the system of opening in the Panel and next to the search System system type: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)
    Before attempting to apply the SP1 please consider this information-
    If you choose to install Windows Vista SP1 via the standalone installer available on the Microsoft Download Center, Microsoft recommends that you first check Windows Update and install all drivers in option. Read the Articles in the Knowledge Base 948187 and 948343 for more information.
    Suggest you to create a folder on the root drive (the drive where Windows is installed, usually C:\) and name SP1.
    Move the downloaded Service Pack in the newly created folder.
    Disconnect all the devices, printer, external USB hard drive, etc.
    Amber,
    I suggest that you run the following tools and then try to install SP1.
    First to perform a clean boot on your PC.
    Run the disk error checking.
    Run System File Checker.
    Run the System Update tool.
    So if these tools did not report any errors, then install the SP1.
    Post back with the results.
  • problems installing SP2 and code 80070490
    I am trying to install SP2 manually because my updates do not work.  Once I download it, it tells me that I have to install SP1 first.  According to my system, I'm already running with SP1.  Don't know what to try before you take it into the store.  Any suggestions?  I tried to uninstall SP1, and then reinstall it, but it is not in the list of updates to uninstall.  I don't know what is happening.
    I also get the error code 80070490 when I try to check the updates.  The Help Center tells me to do something with the disc, but as usual, I do not have a.  It came not with my computer, even if the program doesn't, do not know why they do not give you the drive.  I was wondering if there was a way to get one if my computer is under the age of one year, or what I have to do.  I want to try to solve this problem on mine before you take it to the store.  I absolutely don't want to pay $ 300 to $ 400 for a disk when I already have the product.
