problems installing SP2 and code 80070490

I am trying to install SP2 manually because my updates do not work.  Once I download it, it tells me that I have to install SP1 first.  According to my system, I'm already running with SP1.  Don't know what to try before you take it into the store.  Any suggestions?  I tried to uninstall SP1, and then reinstall it, but it is not in the list of updates to uninstall.  I don't know what is happening.

I also get the error code 80070490 when I try to check the updates.  The Help Center tells me to do something with the disc, but as usual, I do not have a.  It came not with my computer, even if the program doesn't, do not know why they do not give you the drive.  I was wondering if there was a way to get one if my computer is under the age of one year, or what I have to do.  I want to try to solve this problem on mine before you take it to the store.  I absolutely don't want to pay $ 300 to $ 400 for a disk when I already have the product.

Hi DDJohnson,

Once after correcting these errors try to download the standalone package and then try to install

  • Problem installing SP2 - 0xc0190036 error code

    I know this question has been posted before, but not for a while, hoping so it could be a new reflexion autour?

    I DO NOT have a Vista dvd/cd so please do not suggest I reinstall.

    I have a HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook 32-bit

    AMD Athlon X 2 Dual-Core QL-65 2.10 GHz

    2.00 GB OF RAM

    I have 1 installed SP.

    When I try to install SP2, it hangs at a black screen error code! 0xc0190036! 2319/67734 (sceregvl/inf)

    I have to shut down and restart using the repair of the system.

    Advice on Tech forums, I ran chkdsk, tried new and no change.  I did a system scan and it found corrupt files but was unable to fix.  I denied access when I tried to see the log files. (although as an administrator)

    I suspect that damaged files can cause another error I have:

    Windows Media Center Store Update Manager kept coming with an error message saying that it had stopped working. (don't want it to run in any case, never use, so have turned off)

    My computer still works ok without the installation of SP2, with one MAJOR exception: I record now is no longer Word documents (no responses to 'save' or ' save under ' orders - no drop-down list, nothing.) I need to fix this!

    I just give up and hand the thing to someone to reinstall Vista? Can I go directly to Windows 7 instead?

    Thanks for any help

    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
  • Problems of SP2 and IE8
    It's a messed up problem: I installed the SP2 of Vista the other day, and for some reason that my Windows Update tells me that I need to install again.  This second time said however that SP2 is only 6MB in size.  So I installed again (successfully). After a few moments my Windows Update screen will tell me again once I need to install SP2 (version 6 MB).  This repeat after some further tests.  The strange thing is that when I have 'View Update History' or check "Install updates" it tells me that it has been installed.  When I check my 'system' in the 'Control Panel', he says that I don't have that SP1 is installed.
    The other weird thing is that IE has been completely removed from my computer and after having downloaded IE7 and IE8 nor allows to install. Although "Installed updates" once again said I do have installed IE8.  Yet, it is not in "My programs" or in any folder on my computer.
    I feel that my computer is completely messed up because my 'System Restore' has been disabled and all restore Points have been removed.
    If anyone has an idea of what's going on with my computer, I would appreciate greatly any help.  Thanks in advance.
  • Vista Ultimate SP1 Pro: repeated failures to install SP2 and several failures repeat to install some other upgrades second request for help)
    Hello
    I'm a professional software developer, and in the last five days I have tried in vain to upgrade my Vista Ultimate Pro (purchased in the United States two years ago) SP1 to SP2 and make that the machine is in use.
    I would like professional assistance with this question and the advice to do a "clean" installation and annihilate the four days of settings and configuration of programs and software development tools is not a satisfactory answer: I want to know why I can't do an "upgrade" install: why 'upgrade install' disabled when I launch setup.exe from the original DVD / install install Vista?
    1 SP2 will not install (from Windows Update or the downloaded standalone installer from MS) (see my previous post here):
    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistawu/thread/d499b50d-8f67-460f-ACF3-df2ff12ecec7
    for details and for a response of S. Bodin who gave no useful tips).
    2 56! other updates appear repeatedly as needing to be installed, and then they re - install whenever I have closed the computer, and, when I re - starts, they appear as being initialized, or whatever, once again.
    3 IE8 is already installed, .NET FrameWork 3.5 + is already installed (as part of the VS 2010 beta install), but they appear in the queue of facility among the 56 other updates.
    I can honestly say I've lost a lot of time and money dealing with the problems of Vista: it's one of the reasons I have not used for more than a year: I had hoped at the time of SP2, it would be stable enough to use.
    Hello
    I suggest you uninstall service pack 1, perform installation of upgrade in-Place on Windows vista and install service pack, and check the status of the issue.
    How to perform an upgrade on the spot on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2255099
    Note: Before you perform an upgrade in-place, you must be prepared for the worst scenarios that led to your existing data on your computer being deleted. These data include data personal, settings, information about the hardware and software drivers. In case of a worst case scenario, you may have to reinstall all the programs. Make sure that you back up personal data to disks or other external storage devices before performing an upgrade on the spot.
  • Problems installing sp2 on Vista...
    I can't install SP2 for Vista. I installed SP1 and I tried to install sp2 via windows update in which the update actually installed, but after the reboot, I get a message saying that the update could not be configured correctly and changes reverted.
    I also tried to install it manually, but I get an error message saying "C:\Windows\system32\sqmapi.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.     I also tried a system allows to browse the command line to check all of the corrupted files, but generally the process was not successful... ! Any help would be appreciated!
    Hi MichaelPlaster,
    Given that you are always faced with the question, I suggest doing an InPlace Upgrade\Repair installation using the full version of Windows Vista installation disc and try to install the stand-alone SP1 package.
    Note perform a repair installation will not damage files and applications that are currently installed on your computer. However, before you perform an Inplace upgrade, you can take a backup of important data. In case of a worst case scenario, you may have to reinstall all the programs. Make sure that you back up personal data to disks or other external storage devices before performing an upgrade on the spot.
    To perform an upgrade in-place, follow these steps.
    a. close all running applications.
    b. Insert the Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD into the DVD drive of the computer.
    c. in the settings window, click install now.
    Note If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:
    d. Click Start and type Drive: \setup.exe in the box to start the search.
    Note the placeholder drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD.
    e. list programs, click Setup.exe.
    f. in the settings window, click install now.
    g. click go online to get the latest updates for installation (recommended).
    h. type the CD key if you are prompted to do so.
    i. Select the operating system on the page "Windows Installer" you want to increase the power or Inplace.
    j. click Yes to accept the Microsoft software license agreement.
    k. on the type of installation do you want? screen, click upgrade.
    l. Once installation is complete, restart your computer.
    For more information, please see the link:
    How to perform an upgrade on the spot on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2
    Once the upgrade has completed, you must activate your copy of Windows Vista.
    If you have PS/2 ports buy an adapter or a PS/2 keyboard. Most USB keyboards can be connected to a PS/2 port using a USB to PS/2 adapter.
  • Problem install Windows and "Status.msi".
    I have a new top of Tower HP G60-440 with Vista Home Premium.  I loaded the verion trail of the office which was provided.  I loaded the minor to my J6480 HP's printer and other software Hp Solution Center.
    Whenever I boot Windows install tries to find and install a software called "status.msi".  He is looking in my directory "c:\users\...\local\temp...". ».  It does not cancel or close without numerious attempt.
    What is it and how can it be solved?
    It seems to be a problem of HP software.
