Problem running under vmware player .iso file

How to run a file .osi on VMware player, or at least how to convert a .iso file to be able to run under VMware player?

You can try this step to see if you can install the new computer using the file .iso with VMware Player http://linhost.info/2008/12/create-a-virtual-machine-from-an-iso-with-vmware-player/ and you know VMware Server 2.0 is free and gives you options to create the ideal machine for laboratory rather than using VMware Player?

If you found this information useful, please consider awarding points to 'Correct' or 'useful '. Thank you!!!

  • Problems of network running Slackware 3.5 under VMWare Player 3

    I'm trying to run an old version of Slackware (3.5) to the title of the latest version of VMWare Player. I don't have the PC that it ran on more, but I'm sure he didn't have a PCI bus (that is to say, the NIC was ISA), and I noticed that this version of Slackware is an order of 'lspci' (when I tried to force installation of the vmware tools). The core of Slackware seems to work very well, I can't get the network to configure. I guess this is because VMWare player will not emulate an ISA bus... is this true? I tried to play with the different options in the .vmx file, but I can't find a list of all valid options for the parameters. Does one exist?

    I don't necessarily need the network features, except that without it or vmware tools share folders, I don't know how to extract data from the guest system. I can get it via CDROM, but not on.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

  • Lose the snapshots created by vmware fusion when running in vmware player?

    Hi all

    At home I have VMWare Fusion on a Mac and have created a lot of photos;

    Unfortunately I'm away and stay with a friend who has that VMWare Player.

    I'll lose all the clichés that I created if I run my last VM at his computer, whereas VMWare Player have the ability to single snapshot?

    Thank you

    No, you won't lose the snapshots. However, you will not be able to manage, so the virtual machine will run the latest snapshot (and grow this hard snapshot file).

  • ESXi running inside VMware Player

    For pure test purposes, I trying to run VMware ESXi as a virtual machine in VMware Player 3.1.3.

    According to KB article http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1030283 I have to configure my VM as 'Server ESX 4' and the option is available in VMware Player 3.x.

    What should I do to let my ESXi as a virtual machine in VMware Player?

    You could create a virtual machine with a virtual disk free based and then edit the vmx file:

    . Encoding = "windows-1252".
    config.version = '8 '.
    virtualHW.version = "7".
    numvcpus = '2 '.
    maxvcpus = "4".
    scsi0. Present = 'TRUE '.
    scsi0.virtualDev = "free".
    memsize = "2048".
    scsi0:0. Present = 'TRUE '.
    scsi0:0. FileName = 'VMware ESXi - 4.vmdk.
    IDE1:0. Present = 'TRUE '.
    IDE1:0. AutoDetect = 'TRUE '.
    IDE1:0. DeviceType = "cdrom-raw"
    floppy0.startConnected = "FALSE".
    floppy0. FileName = "".
    floppy0. AutoDetect = 'TRUE '.
    ethernet0. Present = 'TRUE '.
    ethernet0. ConnectionType = "nat".
    ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".
    ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE".
    ethernet0. AddressType = 'generated '.
    pciBridge0.present = 'TRUE '.
    pciBridge4.present = 'TRUE '.
    pciBridge4.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"
    pciBridge4.functions = '8 '.
    pciBridge5.present = 'TRUE '.
    pciBridge5.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"
    pciBridge5.functions = '8 '.
    pciBridge6.present = 'TRUE '.
    pciBridge6.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"
    pciBridge6.functions = '8 '.
    pciBridge7.present = 'TRUE '.
    pciBridge7.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"
    pciBridge7.functions = '8 '.
    vmci0. Present = 'TRUE '.
    roamingVM.exitBehavior = 'go '.
    displayName = "VMware ESXi-4.
    guestOS = "vmkernel".
    NVRAM = "VMware ESXi - 4.nvram.
    virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted".
    extendedConfigFile = "VMware ESXi - 4.vmxf.

    After changing the vmx file or reboot the virtual machine to inventory or leave VMware Player and restart it.

  • How to convert a Machine of VMWare ESXi 4.0 to run on VMWare Player

    Hi Experts

    I am new to VMWare and need help, we are running ESXi 4.0, I installed on our Windows Server (Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2) the following:

    -VMWare vSphere Client 4.0

    -VMWare vSphere Host Update Utility 4.0

    -VMWare vCenter Converter Standalone

    We have currently x-2 VMS Machines on our server ESXi (ISSDBN01 & ISSSAP), ISSAP installing Windows Server 2008R2 Standard Editon and SAP, I now want to convert this Machine VM (ISSAP) so I can play on / via VMWare Player. My steps were as follows:

    -Turning off the machine that needs conversion

    -Make sure that I am on the parameters users & groups

    -Convert the Machine (ISSSAP) using VMWare vCenter Converter Standalone VM

    Once the conversion is complete it converts a 145 GB file (that is stored on an external hard drive and the machine has x 2 100 GB disks = disk C and data disc), I select the .vmx with VMWare Player (version 3.0.1.11056) file that I use on my laptop (running Windows Vista Business SP2, 4 GB of RAM), but it does not seem to boot up It keeps saying "Windows is loading files", I Googled it and came across someone adding the parameters of the resolution of the .vmx file.

    I'm not sure what to do now that I need to convert this machine as soon as possible, as I have to get a copy of this machine and test upgrades (because the server is going to be broken and most of the parts used for our hosted server); can anyone help me on what steps I must take to ensure that I convert it properly so I can play this machine converted by VMWare Player.

    Thank you very much for any help, much appreciated.

    Concerning

    Kurt Walters

    Hello Kurt.

    I just have a question about my machine converted, is there a best practice or a better way to convert a VM Machine.

    It is really not a good practice. The most important part of the conversion is the correct selection of the controller (as you did) and disk size/commissioning type. The other settings depend on what you want to achieve. After conversion, review the settings of the virtual machine to ensure that everything is as it should be for example (guest operating system, controller, network,...)

    You can also download the latest version of VMware Converter 4.3 which is supported for Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7.

    Thank you very much for your help is was extremely useful and appreciated.

    You are welcome. If you believe it, feel free to use the 'proper' or 'Useful' buttons

  • AIX, HP - UX, Solaris running under VMware ESX

    Is it possible to run any flavor of Unix under VMware operating system at the server level? I know Linux is able to, but it is if Unix is possible. If this is not the case, is there any intention to do so in any future project. Thank you.

    Alan.

    Hello

    If Tom said there are ways to sort of make a difference...

    Solaris x 86-> Yes

    Solaris Sparc-> Yes if you use transitive

    IRIX-> No. (not x 86)

    AIX-> No. (not x 86)

    OSF/Tru64 Unix-> No. (not x 86)

    HP - UX-> No. (not x 86) but they have the software of HP Integrity (Itanium) Virtual Machine

    OpenVMS-> No. (not x 86)

    BSDi-> not really (if you can find something with SCSI support)

    FreeBSD-> Yes

    OpenBSD-> Yes

    Ultrix-> No. (not x 86)

    UnixWare-> not really (if you can find something with SCSI support)

    SCO-> not really (if you can find something with SCSI support)

    So, for running a Unix as a VM, UNIX must support x 86 hardware (or something to translate x 86) and if you want it run in ESX UNIX must support SCSI LSI or BUSlogic SCSI adapters. For workstation IDE may work. In addition, it must support the ethernet as well AMD PCNET32 device.

  • Virtual systems (under VMWare Player) have need of their own antivirus and firewall software?

    My host system is Windows 7 Home Premium.  I put in place of virtual systems in VMWare Player (4.0.2 build-591240) for Windows 2000 and Windows 8 CP (among others), and all this hard work.  The host has its own antivirus (Avast) and firewall (ZoneAlarm more own Windows).  Network for virtual systems connections are bridged and all work very well to access internet and local network.  My question is: are the antivirus and firewall on the Windows 7 host sufficient or virtual systems also have their own antivirus and firewalls?

  • Backing up a virtual computer running on vmWare player

    Hello

    In about a month, I run an IT project for a conference and to do this, I'll take with me my conference server, which is a virtual machine (Windows 2008 r2) usually run on an ESXi. To export it, I did a V2V and put it on a laptop. Everything works fine. However in removing my ESXi I lose the ability to snapshoting it. This virtual machine will be led by VM Player.

    In addition, to reduce the risk, I bought the same laptop in case of crash of the first. Now, I would like to find a way to snapshot or backup my VM without having to turn it off or to suspend what is impossible for me at the time of the Conference.

    Does anyone of you has an idea on how I could do this?

    Thanks for your help!

    Welcome to the community,

    even if a snapshot is NOT a backup, I suggest that you get a copy of VMware Workstation, allowing to create snapshots.

  • Problem running on VMware Worlstation 7.0.1 ESX3.5

    Hai,

    I am trying to create a laboratory on my desktop computer. I installed Workstation 7.0 and installed ESX 3.5, installation is completed successfully. But he is not running the ESX. I edited the .vmx file correctly. My desktop configurations are 3 GB of RAM. Intel core 3.0 Ghz dual processor, enough hard drive.

    Hi Vivari,

    Really you don't want to change anything in the vmx file.

    Just use this article of xtravirt. http://xtravirt.com/xd10004 . Select the Opearating system invited in accordance with this article. Everything will be fine.

    All the best for your learning

  • Install VMWare Tools running under VMWare Server 2 Server

    I have converted a physical server using VMWare converter 4.

    When I start VMWare server 2 using the vmdk file converted - I need to install VMWare tools on this server.

    How do I do that?

    If you return to vCenter Converter, which you can do it from another machine that installed him as long as he has access to hard and you .vmx files product, there is an option to "configure the Machine' rather than 'Convert the Machine' and this should allow installation of the tools in the image. If the converted image actually starts on the server 2.0 then there is an option in the web interface (https://yourserver:8333) to install VMware Tools when the prompt is selected in the left pane.

    Hello mmccurdy,

    Thank you for your message. But due to the fact that I use Ubuntu 15.04 in 32-bit version, it is not possible to install the bundle - x 64 drive.

    After searching a few other items, I found the solution now (you can find the entire instructions under http://rglinuxtech.com/?p=1281

    First steps:

    cURL http://pastie.org/pastes/9934018/downloadhttp://pastie.org/pastes/9934018/download o /tmp/vmnet-3.19.patch

    CD/usr/lib/vmware/modules/source

    tar - xf vmnet.tar

    patch - p0-i /tmp/vmnet-3.19.patch

    After changing driver.c and userif.c, it is necessary to change too NETIF. C in the vmnet-only folder as follows (see original under http://rglinuxtech.com/?p=1184)

    all about line 152:
    dev = alloc_netdev (sizeof * netIf, deviceName, VNetNetIfSetup);
    to do this:
    dev = alloc_netdev (sizeof * netIf, deviceName, NET_NAME_UNKNOWN, VNetNetIfSetup);

    Complete the changes to the file are VMNET-ONLY. Now the final stages:

    MV vmnet.tar vmnet.tar.SAVED

    tar - cf vmnet.tar vmnet-only

    RM - r vmnet-only

    VMware-modconfig - console - install-all

    then VMwarePlayer works very well.

    Used with:

    Linux ubuntu 3.19.0 - 17-generic #17 - Ubuntu SMP Wed May 6 16:46:32 UTC 2015 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

    VMware-Player 6.0.6-32-bit

    Porto Richardson wrote: this setting for VMware Player is found in the file config.ini to the player %allusersprofile%/VMware/VMware

    The OP said "I'm under VMware Player on a Ubuntu 14.04 host" so the file name and path you mentioned is not applicable.

    @LukeJS host on a Ubuntu (Linux) from the file name won't get the .ini extension and will be simply called the config and will be parked at/etc/vmware /.  So with the machine virtual shutdown is not suspended and VMware Player closed then a Terminal used the following command.

    sudo nano/etc/vmware/config

    Then add the following line.

    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100".

    It is essentially the same parameter that gets the value of the UI of VMware Workstation preferences for submission in response to the message that despite the instructions contained in the message does not exist in the VMware Player preferences user interface.

    Once the virtual machine has been created, click on "Edit virtual machine settings". There, you can delete the original virtual disk and add the ghost.
