Problems of battery/AC on thinkpad r61i

I have a R61i that has had great up until recently.  I hope that someone can point me in the right direction so that there is a problem with the battery, the power adapter or the receiver power on the motherboard.

I came across several other questions about the battery and power with the r61i but problems none meet my symptoms and are resolved.

Symptoms:

battery does not charge

computer doesn't work with connected AC, regardless of the question whether the battery is in

Seeing AC does not come on when it is plugged

the battery light flashes orange until the juice is completely released

I have not yet tested the adapter with a multimeter, but intend to do tomorrow. (I'll update when I do)

I called Lenovo and my battery does not fall under the recall on batteries they have for r61i's.

I read that these symptoms could be caused by a too low battery, which can be resolved to charge the battery for a long period of time, but as much as I know it is not receiving any load now.

Is it possible to check the status of the receiver power supply on the motherboard?

If it is the motherboard I'm SOL or is it possible to fix beyond buying a new motherboard (I'm out of warranty so if that's the case I'll probably just buy a new computer)

Is there anything else that could be the cause? Are there other tests I should run because I can not power on the computer?

Any help is very appreciated.

Make sure you get the ground to + 20 v when the voltage check and not zero, which is actually a PIN that indicates to the laptop what is the rating of the PSU.

  • ThinkPad R61i CPU Upgrade

Thinking about upgrading the processor on my ThinkPad R61i.

    It is dated date 08/02 R61i 7650-D6G (15.4 ", without IEEE).

    A currently a T5450 @ 1.66 Ghz and GM965/GL960 chipset.

As the T5450 has a 667 MHz front bus and is 65nm litho - do I have to stick with Merom chips (and not go for the Penryn)? (The GM965 should support an 800 MHz FSB - but do not know if the Council itself would be).

Am I limited to the series T5xxx (i.e. 2 MB Cache), or could I go for a T7xxx? (even those that were made after the date of the laptop?).

Also - is the BIOS not official (I forgot what it's called now - Middleton?) upgrade (?) a good thing to do?

Help and above all experience, much appreicated - thanks guys!

    Welcome to the forum!

Middleton BIOS is a must on any * system 61 in my view.

As for the CPU, you can certainly opt for a processor Merom (T7300, 7500, 7700, 7800). According to the review board, you might or might not be able to use a processor Penryn (T8100/8300/9300/9500).

The biggest upgrade will be a decent SSD and 4 GB of RAM, though, even if you choose to go with one of the processors less powerful but very cheap as T7300/7500.

    Happy update.

  • Problem of 'battery installed is not supported and will not be responsible' ThinkPad X 230

    Hello

I bought a real x battery 220 / 230 x. After I turn on the laptop, I got a message: the portable computer does not support this battery. I tried to update the bios but nothing happened. The power manager says the battery voltage, cycles, performance, battery LGC. If I unplugged the laptop, it is working so the laptop can use the battery but no charges. If it was not a genuine battery I do not see these description or should I also?

Maybe it's not compatible with my 230 x because it compatible x 220 and the seller didn't know?

I have attached a few photos on the problem. If someone knows anything about this please help me. Thank you.

Good day and welcome to the community.

The 230 X works with the 44-series batteries, incorporating some new circuits which interacts with the x 230. As you have seen, the 230 X will run from a battery of 29-series, but it will not reload. The native X 220 with batteries series 29 series, but also works with the new series-44.

    Kind regards.

  • ThinkPad R61i: problem with batteries.

Your battery charge cycle is quite high... battery most seem to start to fail from about 300 to 400 charges. You must limit the charging charging if you can, you set the charge cycle to start at the bottom of say 80% capacity and stop at 95%.

  • Battery not charging - Thinkpad E531

    Dear Lenovo,

I have been using Windows 7, but I recently changed to Windows 8.1.

In Win7, I was able to install and use the Lenovo power management software, and I changed the threshold of 40 to 50% battery.

After I installed Win8.1, I realized there is not any software for Windows 8.1 E531 power management, so I can't charge my battery above 50%.

It seems that power management software makes somekind of related material change or do not remember my previous settings which I did in Win7.

How can I change the thresholds without reinstalling windows 7 and power management software?

Could you give me a link to a management software can be used for Windows 8.1 E531 Thinkpad power (which is 100% working)?

    Another solution?

    Thank you!

    Hi Tray86,

    Welcome to Lenovo Community!

It is maybe something wrong with the battery of laptops of s?
How old is your laptop? Guarantee is valid?

As far as I know, the guarantee covers the battery for one year. Then maybe you should ask and ASP in your country for a control? Maybe the battery doesn't work as it should.

I n t have a solution to deliver you but I assume that it s associated with the software/driver of webcam.
You should visit the European driver Toshiba page from time to time and need to check if an update is available.

    Hi all

I just brought a new labtop 4 days ago and the battery seems to have a problem.

  • L20-182: problem with battery LED

    Hello
I have a problem with a light that indicates the battery charge rate. After having disconnected the outlet, the battery light to the front of the computer lights but not the light battery. Someone had such a problem? Thanks in advance for the help

    Hello

Sorry, but your ad make me a bit confused.
After that disconnect the power adapter, the battery lights up but it s not really a battery LED. Is this good?
It would be very interesting to know what laptop you have.
But nevertheless, in my view must confuse the portable LED.
Please see the user manual. There you should find information on LEDs.

  • Envy of HP Touchsmart m7-j010dx: Envy of HP Touchsmart m7-j010dx: problem loading battery

Problem started two weeks ago. Could not power on the laptop, tried several outlets different. Bought a laptop universal power cord/charger and it has not always worked. Removed the battery, power cord and could start on computer... Replace the battery, but the battery would not hold a charge even if the battery light was amber and the icon in the toolbar of Win: 36% available (plugged in, load). Click the icon and displays 36%, calculate... Laptop left on all night with the battery and 8 hours later, he was always at 36%. With laptop turned on, I can remove the power cord for laptop and battery will continue operating, depleting the battery but when I plug the power supply cord does not charge the battery (without green light or the light).

Bottom line, power cord with battery and have no power (green or amber) period. Remove the battery, attach the power cord and I can start the computer.

Ran Test systems - check the battery: primary - replace (42) and receipt failure ID: QAMPPV - 82387 T-MFGJXF-C0D703. This failure on a new battery just received two days ago. Same errors with the original battery.  Attempted a power reset without success.

I could run cell phone using only the power cord, but that would defeat the purpose of owning a laptop. Battery-operated drain only battery with no way to recharge.

Help! Searching the forum for the answer to my problem and found none.

Thanks for confirming my assessment. Laptop bought in October 2013 and is not under warranty. New motherboard costs nearly one-third of the cost of the new laptop is not profitable to replace the motherboard.

Of course, I've read many messages are contiguous to battery problems, but I've never seen a notification of error in the battery icon.

You could try to calibrate the battery.
Discharge the battery completely. Then charge it at 100%. Repeat this twice!
Check the operation of the laptop.

But be aware that sooner or later your battery would die and you need to replace the battery.

  • M30X 129: problem of battery or power management road

    Hi all

I had a lot of trouble with my laptop recently; When using just the battery I can watch it unloads and a minute, he can read about 30% or more, depending on the laptop will be beep like crazy and then go into hibernation. I put it to Hibernate at 5%. I find it incredible that the battery can lose about a quarter of its power in less than 60 seconds.

I've updated the utility of power management using the Toshiba site, but it has not changed anything. The only time that I have the AC adapter and battery at the same time is when I charge the battery, if I'm near a power outlet and there is no need to reload, I always remove the battery.

I read on these forums somewhere on the withdrawal of the Toshiba power management and just using windows, but I prefer not to change anything like that, as far as I'm concerned the Toshiba it should do the job! The laptop is still under warranty but my nearest authorized repair center is more than 200 miles away, so, does anyone have any ideas of what I can do or try next? I'm out of ideas...

    Cheers in advance,
    Colin

    Hi Colin,

You don't say how old is your battery, but it is more likely to be a hardware problem with your battery rather than a problem with the Toshiba power utility.

It seems that if one or more of the cells in your battery cannot hold its charge properly, and once the remaining cells the battery power exhaustion will fall suddenly.

  • Remains of problem: computer battery laptop battery 100% all the time (not connected), the LED flashing light?

My laptop is HP Probook s 4430 (product number: QJ670AV). I just bought it for 4 months. Last night when I finished my work and I stopped him then I plugged the adapter to recharge. This morning I woke up and found that next to the Jack to the battery charge flashes constantly (in red). Normally, it turns red when it is plugged and becomes white when the battery is going to be full and stop when not plugged in. Now I use my laptop (without charging) for 2 hours and the battery icon on the screen said: "100%". What is the problem? I'm so worried. Please help me. Thanks to you all!

    Hello Lavender148,

    Your laptop is not unload.

    Do a hard reset.

    Turn off the computer.

Remove the power cable and battery.

Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth energy sources are deleted.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

That you put it on press the F10 key. This will load the BIOS setup utility.

Press F9 to load the default values.

Press F10 to save and exit.

When the computer starts up, check if everything is working.

I would like to know how everything goes.

    Nice day.

  • Strange problem with battery on my Tecra A7

I currently have a Toshiba Tecra A7, which currently has a problem

With the battery connected and by pressing the power button, the battery led flashes 11 times short of what I see

Take the battery, plug in the power adapter, and it does the same thing. Battery LED blinks 11 short

This laptop is barely a month, I'm reluctant to open at all, as I do not want the guarantee. Which suggests a person I try to solve the problem?

    Hello

Please don? t do anything and don? t open the unit. On this way, you will lose the warranty and you can't solve it alone. Please contact your dealer and explain the situation. According to your assignment, I assume that there is a power problem. Electronic power supply has detected an error and this way sends the hex code.

  • Y40 - 80 randomly turn off. The battery calibration has not fixed the problem of battery meter.

    Hello

I've had this Y40-80 during about 9 months and it has recently been acting strangely. The laptop will stop randomly. I thought that it was a sign, I had to calibrate the battery but after I had calibrated the battery, the battery meter percentage remained at 100% for a good 2 hours until it starts to decrease.

Now, I tried to recalibrate the battery for 5 times using the howtogeek, OneKey and the discharge of the BIOS. I did a fresh install of Windows to get rid of all the software Lenovo that might have caused the problem, but that did nothing.

I also uninstalled the Windows ACPI and Lenovo ACPI, which does not solve everything.

This issue makes the computer laptop underclock the processor environ.48 Ghz, which makes the computer almost unusable.

Someone have an idea on how to solve this problem, or is the battery dead?
